- Here's another classic multi-car box set! This was a $19.99 Target exclusive in 1999. This was another situation where I waited until clearance time to pick up some extras! It contains 3 licensed models from the 50's and a Larry Wood Purple Passion Hot Wheels creation. Here is the narrative from the box.
Hot Wheels, Hot Nights
It's the 1950's and the car is king. On warm summer nights, girls wearing poodle skirts and guys sporting varsity jackets cruise Main Street in their hot cars. They pull up at their favorite hangout, the drive-in restaurant, where car hops on rollerskates bring trays loaded with hamburgers, french fries and milkshakes right to the cars. Radios blare the hottest rock 'n' roll music. Boys rev their engines and girls whisper and giggle. Here's a piece of yesterday that we've recreated just for you.
'57 Chevy
The 1957 Chevy with a 350 cubic inch V8 engine was the muscle car of the decade. Edging out the competition with real horsepower and performance, it embodied the need for speed and power!
Purple Passion
This custom bad boy was everyone's favorite. The chopped and channeled 1951 Mercury owned the road with an overpowering chrome front-end grill that let everyone know it was there!
1959 Cadillac Eldorado
In an era where tail fins defined style, the 1959 Eldorado was the biggest shark on the road. With a 390 cod V8 engine producing 345 hp, you had it made in the shade!
1959 Impala Lowrider
It was all about style and beauty - and being the lowest car on the boulevard. This customized 1959 Impala Lowrider with classic gullwing rear fender design and "cat's eyes" taillights had it all!

It is unfortunate that these box sets aren't a success. Collectors tend to prefer single-carded items.

I remember that set. I bought it on clearance for somewhere around the $6 - $7 range. I began collecting in fall of 1996. All I wanted was a GTO Hot Wheel...but they didn't make any back then. BTW...the 1959 Impala doesn't have the window post like the Bel-Air does. Bel-Air is a sedan body, Impala is a coupe. Thanks for the video.

Nice set. Cheeky price on the first release even by 1998 standards. All the cars are well done tho, enjoying your memory lane vids, full of treasures.

I think that car on the Box ( 4.08 ) is a " '59 Cadillac Eldorado Seville " :) or maybe a Sedan

The finned car on the box art is a '59 caddy. if memory serves correctly, there was a hardtop version produced

Cool box set! Question for you about the color shifter cars: I know on most HW cars if you get them wet, the axles will start to rust pretty quickly (or maybe I'm mistaken for MBox? or maybe both...) so in order to prevent that from happening on the color shifters, are the axles made of a different metal, or are they painted or otherwise coated to prevent rust? Thanks! I enjoy your videos!
I'm pretty sure Mattel uses nickel-plated axles for Color Shifters. The same treatment for the Faster Than Ever cars. The Inside Story: Faster Than Ever Hot Wheels

these cars or the packaging kind of reminds me of american graffiti that film was sick any ways where these sets limited :p

Mark,i don't see these types of sets at Target anymore. can you shine some light as to why is that?
In my opinion, there are two reasons. One, the price. $20 for four cars that have basic wheels and maybe some extra tampos. Two, most collectors like to buy single-carded items for their collection.
