Great list (in the video), and thanks for the summary!
My add:
About Time leaves you with the real life lesson to pay attention and cherish the everyday moments & small miracles you notice… 😃
For ME it was Schindler's List that literally turned my life around. When that came out I was a young, brash, SELF ABSORBED, SELFISH ASSHOLE who just lived life for myself with no regard for anyone else. GRATITUDE was the central theme of that movie and from that day on I developed an "attitude of gratitude" for everyone/everything in my life and to empathize with other people's suffering which I never paid attention to before. Highly recommended.
Wow. That is powerful. Just think of where you might be if you had not seen that movie.
One of the greatest movies and portrayals. It demonstrates empathy and sympathy amongst inhumane conditions. The ending where he struggles with not having saving more Jews is heartwrenching and tearful. Glad it changed your attitude.
To bad the movie is based on a lie.
The secret life of Walter Mitty changed how I lived my life. It made me understand and appreciate the routine. Without routine the world probably won't even exist. Everything has something that works behind the scenes. Made me love my mundane life and how once in a while regardless of financial issues just take tripe that you've never been before cause it gives you a new perception about life. Someday if i ever get to meet Ben Stiller i would absolutely try my best to convey my gratitude towards him.
A friend from college randomly showed it for one of our movie nights. Didn’t expect my life to be changed but I was rocked
That movie inspired me so much to just be brave in life!
That movie also changed my life! Happy to know it did for some others too!
I love that movie! So so underrated
Dude, I relate to this so much! The soundtrack alone always makes me feel hope for my future and my ability to overcome adversities in order to see a brighter future for myself and the people that I love. There are so many scenes in the first half of this movie alone where you see Walter engage in behavior that is so reflective of someone that’s struggling with life itself only for the movie show you that the only thing you really need in situations like that is to embrace the surrounding chaos and ride the wave. Thank you for sharing your thoughts.
If you haven’t already seen it I’d recommend “Good Will Hunting” a very eye opening movie that stuck with me
This very very very very very very much. Made me a sucker for Elliott Smith.
I was convinced this would be on the list.
I have watched the movies and im not asking this ironically, what part of the movie was eye opening for you?
@@ieatmemesforsnacks6936 The conversation between two main characters when they were sitting on a bench.
@@ieatmemesforsnacks6936 for me personally it’s how he pushes other people around him away in fear of change. During the movie I was like “oh shoot, that’s me”
The Curious Case of Benjamin Button to this day is the most inspired movie for me. Really made me think about the trajectory of our lives and the decisions we make. How people who start off as complete strangers end up having such a huge impact on who we are today. How at times, we have complete control and at times, we have zero control of our lives and we just need to find the balance between the two. How, where we are today is a result of what we did a year ago. Where we will land a year from now will be the result of what we do today. The quote from the film that has always stayed with me is:
“For what it’s worth: it’s never too late or, in my case, too early to be whoever you want to be. There’s no time limit, stop whenever you want. You can change or stay the same, there are no rules to this thing. We can make the best or the worst of it. I hope you make the best of it. And I hope you see things that startle you. I hope you feel things you never felt before. I hope you meet people with a different point of view. I hope you live a life you’re proud of. And If you find that you’re not, I hope you have the courage to start all over again”.
You mentioned the way way back!! I’m so thrilled, I randomly found it one summer, and it left me speechless. It was so poignant and spoke to the loneliness of youth and the struggles of family life. It touched me deeply, and it’s such a hidden gem.
Yes. I love the idea of watching movies not just for entertainment but for the lessons we can apply in life from them . And also your perspective and lessons on movies , I relate with them
Entertainment can be really inspiring, especially when it's not trying to moralize or shove lessons down our throats too much and just tries to tell a good story first and foremost.
Limitless will inspire you to take drugs.
😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂 makes sense
Most don't need that push to do drugs. I'm surprised there's enough hemp in the world to keep up with the fucking potheads
I heard a rumor that the NZT-48 pill is a real drug. But you have to know where to find it. And that can be rather difficult to find.
Also don't forget about the CBS Limitless series. Shame that it got canceled.
Can't wait to watch

@@89playstation65 i've heard it's inspired by the effects of certain antidepressants and how they act on people with adhd
"We buy things we dont need, to impress people we dont like"
I'm so glad to see someone give The Count of Monte Cristo the credit it deserves! Great job on this list 👏🏼
the movie is good but the book is AMAZING
Seriously, more importantly because Kevin Reynolds I feel has gotten one of the worst damn deals, he’s a pretty damn good filmmaker. Or at least decent. The Beast of War is among my favourite movies, and one of the best war movies, i mean the subject matter alone is unique for a big Hollywood flick, let alone an english-language film. But more importantly is such a masterclass in editing, pacing, absolute thrills, using visuals while also having that element of theatre-adaptation in the very functional efficient dialogue and characters
I mean he did make Waterworld, all that money and a lot of work and ppl just endlessly shit on it
Has to be on the list but this is the wrong version! It has to be the one with Gerard Depardieu as the Count!
@@chwb99 I found it strange that no names were mentioned. No actors, no actresses, no producers, directors, etc. My opinion is this is "woke" censorship based on the unpopularity of the main actor among the radical left due to a recent appearance in a movie they seriously object to. If this is true...and let me know if it's not...then I find it extremely disgusting.
book 10, movie very predictable even my 6yo can predict the whole movie!!
Little shocked that "Yes, man" with Jim Carey isn't on this list! That movie changed my life!
Haha I love that movie! So underrated!
@@jackcarlos got me moving again and outside when I was depressed 15 years ago
Thruman show
It’s actually a very solid film. I feel that it’s especially strong because it initially presents being more open to things as a positive trait, but it can easily lead to you becoming too careless and spontaneous as a result. It’s all down to balance; you should always try to broaden your horizons but also find some measure of stability and consistency so that you don’t end up ruining yourself.
@@marko6489 good one
Fight club makes me realize that we don't really need that much things in our life, chasing those while slaving our ass off. And also makes me realize the necessity to became strong as men.
exactly, i lost my job and started boxing. Feel a lot better.

I 100% agree with “Crazy, Stupid, Love” on this list. It was a jumping point for me to figure out how to show confidence and dress better. It also showed me how to break away from a VERY bad rut after a breakup that had a huge impact on my life. Great movie!
CONTINUE!!!
A couple of these I already thought of. Love that putting them in lists. Will be checking the rest out!
Groundhog Day is GOATed
I have actively daydreamed about what a groundhog day after a few thousand years of looping would look like since I first watched it years ago
@@bobobsen What conclusions did you reach? Did you love that idea or did you detest it?
One of the only movies i can think of that actually entered everyday language as a reference point.
Please continue this series, it’s very cool 👍🏻
Please continue! Love this format!
Dude, just came across your page & I can’t stop watching! Taking notes cause every video has gold in it
The Shawshank Redemption and It's a Wonderful Life are movies that really changed my life.
I liked this video a lot. You sold me on wanting to watch a lot of these movies, I’m always interested in watching something with a deeper theme rather than shallower copy & paste stories. If you continue this series, I would definitely be interested.
Love your perspective. Part 2, please.
Great list please continue!
9. into the wild (2007)
Super film...👍
Please continue this series! I really enjoyed some of the perspectives on the movies on this list but they are already some of my favorite movies and I’ve seen them all like 5 times already so I need more.
This video was what I was searching for. Massive thanks, keep going
I would also add Little Miss Sunshine to this list. I watch that movie whenever I need a big emotional pick-me-up. It's absolutely brilliant, especially from the second half where all the characters start to grow, and then when it ends with them dancing together it's just magical. It reminds you to enjoy the little things in life and to find that joy in what really matters, not in what we perceive that matters. I personally think it's Steve Carrell's best role, and that's saying something.
I have a hard time with the final act of that movie because of the beauty pageant. Seeing all those young girls paraded around like that just felt gross. I honestly don’t understand how child pageants are a real thing. The whole idea just seems so icky.
@@Garrus1995 I agree it's hard to watch but that's why the scene where they dance together is so good cause it's a big eff you you to the industry
I am not working for these people next year, these people are crazy
Agreed
Yes!!! I absolutely adore the deep layers of this film. Mainly about the unfairness in life, how's everyone has their own limits and starting points and you shouldn't make your life a beauty contest against others. It's also very much about healthy realitionship with failures and how to heal from them & finding comfort. It's also extremely fun to watch, it's kinda harsh theme doesn't make the film heavy - it's funny, heartwarming, has great characters and dynamics between them, ups & downs though all of the script. It's also an effective critic of the American hustling culture and the fakeness of it.
It's also brilliantly directed - some really clever examples of the direction: the use of the stucked Van pushed by the family, the use of the horn to create stress, Dwayn's mental breakdown with him knocking his head on the Van's doors, the shot of Dwayn's run down from the van with his scream with the family watching him from the above. The use of the beauty contest metaphor, the final dancing scene. The attention to little details. It's just went over most people's heads
Personally, it's my favorite movie and the standard of what i believe films should aspire to be
Gotta add Gattaca to this list. One of the best and most life changing movies I've ever seen.
Holy I thought I was the only one
Omfg yes some Gattaca love!!! Literally my 2nd favorite movie of all time!!!
Yes! Just watched this a couple weeks ago, absolutely mind blowing. Sci-fi can really kickstart creative thoughts about the future
Absolutely, definitely on my most favorite movie list
Absolutely
Amazingly Explained. Salute brother.. Thank You.
Do continue. Your descriptions are great. Concise, intelligent, thoughtful, mature.
I think "Gattaca" also fits to this topic. It changed my way of thinking about boundaries in life and how to overcome almost anything, if you work hard enough for your dreams.
Many of these movies are already on my most favourites list! Would love to see you expand the list
This is great thank you We want that part 2.. Continue the series!!
The way you present these movies is great. Please continue this video. Would love some more recommendations by you.
Yes, please continue this series! Also, if you have a list of FICTIONAL books along the same lines I would love to see a video like that as well 🙌🏻
Next 8 movies please! This was a great list and will be watching some of these movies in the next few days. Thanks for the recommendations.
Great pics! Thanks and "yes" keep them coming!
Awesome video. Please continue the series!!!
Hello Joey, there's something great in suggesting movies and explaining them through the lense of self improvement. You made me go back and rewatch some of them to gain your perspective on things. I would love to see more of your suggestions. Voting for Part 2 on this video :)
Fab, this is my Easter weekend sorted, either watching or rewatching a few of these… thank you so much for saving me from scrolling for hours and not ending up watching anything which is what usually happens!
Thank you for sharing ❤
I love your videos, the ideas are so radical to me and puts into words what I couldn't-- it's like hearing myself speak through someone else. You're an inspiration really. Hope you keep producing more videos in the future!
Please do continue the series, this was great.
Please do these more and more, Groundhog day was a precious recommendation😊
Please continue this. I am loving it.
Ok, so far, I've seen and loved all these movies. I'd love to see the rest of your list. Keep it up!
Unique and interesting video! Great thought provoking content as usual. I'm glad you threw in Count of Monte Cristo, it's one of my personal favorites!
The Way Way Back is such a good coming-of-age movie! I first watched it when I was 15 and have recently rewatched it. Funny, relevant and kind of an emotional rollercoaster.
Very nice recomendations!!! Thanks for the video!!
Absolutely continue this please!!
Honestly, I've been in the "self-help" scene a few years, but I've kind of fallen out of it, not because I don't like it or because i "gave up", but because I don't think there's much new to be said.
But before that, and even after I've fallen from it, I keep learning through movies. Movies have taught me so many lessons, it's insane. Not all of them, sure, but some have also changed my life.
So, in short, yeah, absolutely continue this video. Even if the movies you recommend are not great, simply hearing your insight on them and what they taught you is immensely interesting to me, and I know it is to others as well
Yes please continue! I love movies and this video have me a few more to check out
Great post! Definitely do part two.
Good recommendations and I really like your analysis and self-reflection. Thanks.
Loved this style of video! 'Good Will Hunting' and 'Schindler's List' have had the greatest impact on my life.
It's nice to hear from someone else who's enjoyed The Way Way Back. Absolutely underrated, and what an incredible cast!
Thanks for the info. Please continue!
Please continue! Your perspective seems exactly like what I look into movies.
Definitely would be interested in another in this series
Yes, please continue! Great video, so cool to hear your perspective on films! I haven't heard of some of them or haven't watched them yet, but you ignited my interest, I'll check some of those out! :D Thank you Joey, for all you do! 😊
great resume! thanks
Please continue these... Thank you
Decided to watch Groundhog Day, since you have mentioned it a couple of times before. It was a delight! I have put every single one of the movies recommended by you in here on my list (yes, even Elf...)! Some I have watched before, and I will give them a watch again, to see if I can get a new perspective on things. I vote YES for you to continue the series, as I am sure the people would love to see what made you improve your life this way, as I am eager to learn if I can do so too. Stay notable, Joey!
😊
Elf is so good because it's all about never losing the wonder and excitement that we had as kids - yes it's silly and childish but it's all about someone who's jaded looking at someone who is excited by everything he sees and it's a great message about not losing that childhood wonder in your life
Such a great list . Please do make another video about your next 8 movies that profoundly impacted you .
I like how you explain the movies, great video thanks.
Elf is so a great movie! I haven’t seen The Way Way Back, so I might check that one out. This was a fun video. Definitely make another.
This was cool, cant wait for part 2
Appreciate your videos, and the editing in this one is top notch!
This was an excellent video. Please continue with these. Would love to see more.
Some bangers on this list. And some I'd never heard of so that's some new (old) movies going on my watchlist - particularly interested in watching The Count of Monte Cristo, that looks awesome! Definitely up for another episode of this 👌🏼
A movie that changed my perspective on things is Stranger than Fiction. The idea that you can break out of the mundane if you just look around and make the most of your time. It taught me to be flexible and accept kindness a little more freely. Another was Persepolis - it taught me about the dangers and pitfalls of legalistic religious practices.
Oh and almost forgot - Adventureland. Perfect coming of age film just for fun.
Great video and I'll watch these, great recommendations. Please do the other 8 if you have the time!👍
Great list good sir. You earned my Sub
There's one bit of dialogue in Jacob's Ladder that affected me in a big way. I think they used it in an Unkle song. It's about Jacob being afraid of dying and seeing Demons - but if he stops being afraid, they're angels. Basically the line is about how we are in control of how we perceive and respond to everything in our lives and it's entirely our choice. And also, I love watching Paterson to relax. So for me it's Jacob's Ladder and Paterson.
Sam Rockwell deserved an Oscar for "The Way Way Back". Low-key absolutely rewatchable classic. A case study in the family dynamic, from a funny and poignant angle.
Thank for the amazing video dude! It really did inspire me
Thanks for sharing. ❤
The prison and priest chapter of Count of Monte Cristo is just truly amazing.
Kinda crazy how most of these movies are actually my favorites too. I always knew there was a reason why and this video puts it into a perspective I can understand now. Yes, please continue making these videos.
Quality vid! Thanks for sharing!
please continue and thank you for keeping the video length digestible
Great list and terrific explanations. The only one I haven't seen is Way Way Back, which I'll check out. I really like how some of your choices aren't obviously life changing (Limitless, Crazy Stupid Love, Catch Me if You Can) but you really explained well what can be gleaned from those movies as inspiration.
Not so sure about Elf being in the list, but even if it doesn't motivate self-improvement, I guess it's something you need to watch anyway 😂
Please, continue your list!
From a young age on, I very much began to feel the difference in impact of movies on me...this practically goes for any art form, like writing, music...even video games (if you want to go so far and count them as an art form ;).
I believe that art in general plays a vital and strong part in our evolution as humans.
Thanks again for sharing your insides and ideas - keep up your fine work, Sir!
Greetings and all the best from Germany
I really enjoyed this video and would love to see a series of these!
Great list.
500 days of Summer had quite a big positive impact on me.
that movie is crazy good
Love this as well
It's a good movie but why it had a positive impact for you though? For me the end was quite depressing. Maybe I should rewatch it
@@pioneeringworks Depressing? The character finally let go of what has been burdening him for the past two years.
@@vernick8823 if you say like that yeah it is positive. But I remember shipping them from the start of the movie and then at the end all of the "love" was just one sided and not true for her. Zooey Deschanel since then still gives that kind of "unapproachable" vibe to me.
Also Yes Man with Jim Carrey is a great movie for this, changed my life quite a bit and caused me to say yes a lot more to things in life. More spontaneous things to get out of this monotonous world I trapped myself in. Told me to look out and seek romance for myself and say yeah to it, it overall helped me.
You should read the book it's based on. That's a true story, and is also very, very funny.
The Trueman Show with Jim Carrey is another one of his that has a powerful message of seeing beyond what we believe our lives to be to live our truths.
Yes please continue, I need more movies to add to my list. Thank you for all that you do.
Totally agree with you! It has sense to watch them again! Thanks a lot!
I would love to hear the next 8 movies.
Same mate! Btw how did you use this special hand emoji? 😄
I love Steve Carell's way of being able to accurately portray character's personality development with so much emotion and accuracy without making it seem weird or like "where tf did this come from." Really underrated actor.
yes, please continue this series. it is highly enjoyable, and i love to find movies that inspire me and can contribute something to life. great work.
Thank you for putting this together. Maybe I need this right now.
I went through a phase were I was kinda depressed in college and watched a ton of coming of age dramas. The Way Way Back was great. A few similar ones I'd recommend are Mud, The Spectacular Now, Place Beyond the Pines, Perks of Being a Wallflower, Mid90s, and Edge of Seventeen
Seen all of those bro. Great movies! Somewhat of my favourite genre too.
Please another video like this one, I like to hear your thoughts of the movies I love
Yes please continue, these were great picks that I now want to revisit.
A good video after a long time! Thanks mate
Along with "The Count of Monte Cristo", I have "The Shawshank Redemption" in my top 10 list of movies that have had a profound effect on my ability to maintain a positive perspective during life's challenging moments.
