      @pipari21 Před 4 lety +2

      I think you are confusing the planet with biosphere. Earth will keep rotating around its axis and around the sun even if there is no life here at all. It's us that we need to save, not the planet. If you watch the video again you will notice that Sir David never mentions saving animals, plants or ecosystem directly. He is saying that something needs to be done if we want our civilization or humans in general to survive on earth. So he speaks on behalf of humans. And that's totally fine and I agree.
      However, humans don't really add any value to nature. We are over powered with our tools and medicine compared to any other species and we don't have any predators. We are taking a lot from nature and not really giving anything significant back. If we really want to save nature, then we need to think about how to reduce the number of humans.
      Studies show that educated women are having less kids in general compared to uneducated ones. Therefor it makes sense to support education in general and especially girls education in the countries that have high birth rates and big problem with pregnancies at very young age. That's how we can make our effect on world milder efficiently and without causing too much trouble, not by making some promises for the future that we may or may not keep. NOTE, I'm not saying that educating girls will solve the whole problem. Of course we need to advance technology and methods of growing our food as well. Efficiency is the key for those things. Efficient process = less energy used per produced unit. Energy production is by far the biggest source on CO2 at the moment.

    This is the most realist words spoken by a man who witnessed our world as a whole.
    People always say that the internet is the strongest and most influential community. We all have the power to blow this up. I rarely comment or even share videos, but this one is something that every ear should hear.
    How about we start a hashtag to raise awarness to others. We should tweet youtube, bombard them with every form of contact until they listhen. This has to be on recommended. And trending.
    Its funny because we are all capable of that.
    Everyone has forgotten that the "leaders" are not the ones in power, it is us. It's enlightening to have this man living among us. We should all learn a thing or two from him. Legend

    Much respect to Mr.Attenborough. I grew up to his narrations, and as ever he speaks with the voice of logic in an insane world.
    And even if I do respect the courage of Miss Thunberg, I would urge the leaders to listen to this man. He has the experience and the knowledge. As he says, we're going into very unstable times. We must start focusing of the survival of the human race. We have adapted before, but this time man in general has no preparations what so ever, to face a global crisis. We must change the way we think about our selves and our environment. The time to change is now.

    Firstly: I love this sentiment. The reality of it is not lost on any who has an understanding in basic global environment and climate. The message is clear, the words not overly flowery or scientific. Words said in this manner have the greatest impact and, although some 3% of scientists still disagree, his climate science is spot on. Our stable climate was a chance occurrence which has allowed us great advancement but one which has also lulled us into a false security. A belief the good times will keep on rolling. World leaders....you've been put on notice, twice, in very different language and emotion. Let's see how you respond.
    Secondly: Does anyone who listened to this speech have any belief that as a leader of a country they have any real say in the goings on within the industries in their region? Mining conglomerates have gone out of their way for centuries to avoid control of local governments in those regions in which they operate. Maybe two mine tailings dam collapses in Brazil in a three year period isn't enough evidence of late that things do not change. Does anyone believe the Koch brothers will care a toss for these words? What about the heads of BP, SHELL, CHEVRON, Facebook, Amazon and the big global banks...? Mega corporations are built on the rape and decimation of the planet. Water quality will take centuries to recover even if we stop allowing human waste, household waste water and the run off from our roads and industry enter the creek, river and ocean systems. Don't believe me? Next time it rains, grab a glass, walk into the street and fill up your vessel from the gutter. No?You'd never drink that?! Then why should our fish, shellfish, aquatic mammals et al? The amount of waste polluting our most important circulatory system, our oceans, is astounding and impossible to remove completely as it is part of the creatures who live within.
    Sir David Attenbrough is a treasure. If these measures were up to him, scientists and people on the cutting edge of new tech for assisting with the clean up process...I'd have some hope for ours, and this planets future. Alas.....we, the general masses, have allowed ourselves to become complacent and now we are left out of the voting process. We're unimportant. For the most important decision this planet, and all of humanity has faced under our tenure.
    My friends scoffed at my suggestion, nearly twenty years ago, that "humanity will not exist in another 5000yrs." I'm not liking the progress. After all, trust humans to destroy that which is essential to our survival.
    If you read trough to here....I thank you. I know I can go on some times but this issue has been a big topic for me since the 1980''s. We did so well figuring it all out back then....
