Great discussion, Alan. The vision of the fish god to find water was startling. I also really enjoyed when Laban does not find the idols, and Jacob explodes with his, “It seems”. Interesting perspective on the prelude, I can see how it could turn readers away, especially with the weird first past that has Joseph and Jacob considering stars, the past, etc. at the well. I love that Jacob is a favorite character of yours from the Bible. He’s definitely in that group of highly human and flawed but talented individuals.
