It’s a bit of a red herring to be honest. He had adapted his game to be a penalty box poacher way before Euro 2016. I think he did it to keep his goal scoring figures comparative to Messi’s. Being about 2-3 years older, he wouldn’t have kept up playing his old way, and it certainly would have affected his longevity.

For a tall guy it was amazing he could still play like that until near 30, this shows his high determination and professionalism. Fast paced dribbling would draw tackles and by itself put lots of stress on knees.
R9 and Baggio were good examples, never reached full potential due to injury before turning 25. Body like Maradona or Messi fit this style of play better.
Yeah lol I have never seen a guy above 6ft dribble like Cristiano does, other than Ronaldo nazario himself
Ronaldo nazario was under 6ft
@@Yeahagreed guess why Nazario got injured so much ,cus tall guys have to put a lot of effort into turning and doing feints and if a tackle comes or ur ankle gets bent a lil bit ,ur career is gone while short players can glide past defenders with their balance
@@Yeahagreed Ronaldo nazario was 5'10 tho
Pogba, Gullit, Zidane, Henry, Vlahovic, Cantona, Ronaldo.....there are more than enough tall players who are (were) monsters at dribbling. Usually they can combine it with pace, as tall players reach higher speeds than short ones. Obviously short players will be more agile and accelerate slightly quicker of the mark than tall players (due to nature of things), but tall players have much better physicality in terms of body and reaching top speeds due to longer legs and more muscle mass, which makes them explosive.
He was a force of nature back in the day. That tendonitis injury in 2014 hampered his dribbling. But the flair he used to have in one on one situations were breathtaking.
Interesting injury, stopped from dribbling but he could still jump as high and run as fast🤣
@@ramsenqashani7978 yea but the intricate movements he used to do to beat defenders outs a lot of strain on the knees
@@imbricecubes5108 But sprinting full speed and inhuman jumps does not, sounds like an excuse Ronaldo fans fabricated
@@ramsenqashani7978 Not the same thing, hater: even rugby players can jump and run fast, but intrincate dribbles require a kind of moves that put tendons and joints in unnatural positions and endure tensions in angles where they are far weaker...plus the kicking players deliver and receive. Hence why football players suffer way more knee injuries than most other athletes.
@@ramsenqashani7978 how its an excuse if its true 😂😂 his dribbling and freekicks suffered after that knee injury in 2014. He stopped dribbling because it would attract tackles and after that 2014 injury had he got any major injury it would have been a disaster for his career. Players like Messi and Ronaldo got a whole separate team for shit like that constantly checking their bodies and changing style of play as they get older to make their careers last long and without injuries.

Back at utd before he left, he was making runs from the edge of our box and keeping the ball on him the entire way down that left wing, right wing to simply Ronaldo chop and smash in goals in the top corner like it was nothing. 2008-2009 was a crazy time for the fella when the world started noticing him. if you think this is explosive, go check him out at United before he moved to Madrid. He was peak explosiveness!
Yeah he had a flair about him that became more of a intense drive at Madrid eventually
@@askingasking4559 Yeah his early days at United was a totally different player to what we saw in Madrid. He was so fast and so skillful and direct. I think the closest you saw his dribbling at Madrid was when he wore the 9 shirt, but even that was a fraction of what he showed in his early United days
@@tombrady5587 well in man united he was more of a skillful player and was fast. Real Madrid was where he dribbled a lot mostly against Barca and Atletico after that 2014 injury happend which made him dribble less also affected his insane knuckleball freekicks
@@aganbraganca4156 Factually not entirely true. His dribbling stats dropped year on year after his first 1-2 seasons at Madrid. At United during his early years his dribbling was levels above even what he did by the end of his first spell at United. Largely because he started becoming a more allrounded player and wasn't just dribbling for showboating sake anymore. But he also started losing a bit of his directness as he matured, hence why his dribbling numbers dropped significantly after his first 2 seasons at Madrid.
So, my point about his explosiveness is valid as it was levels above during his early years at United.
Put his other qualities aside, that stamina itself was something supernatural. He could play football all day long!
The injury was for the best imo . It forced him to adapt his playing style to become more of a poacher . This in turn allowed him to keep his scoring rate fairly consistent even after his 30s and break records eventually . If he had stuck to his older playing style then at some point when his body slows down , his output would have decreased and adapting to a new role at that age would be much more difficult .
Well said. Kinda blessing in disguise.
I think when he scored the hattrick against Sweden in 2013 was the last of him being fast. After that he turned into a better version of Batistuta-Bierhoff. Still got rocket on both feet and I don’t think I need to talk about his headers
That's basically what's been going on with Messi, the guy is still a beast but he's always have been a playmaker, therefore, the slower he gets the more he will play in the midfield.
@@Josh-wb2me True that. Of course football banter is what makes this sport fun but sometimes toxic fans is just too much.
As United fan from Gary Pallister era I always favour Ronaldo but damn how could I hate Messi.
@@Josh-wb2me he used to be a playmaker that dribbles to the box at speed to make the final pass or shot, but now he's become more of a combination between a progressive carrier + passer and a playmaker. You often see him just getting the ball forward with a pass or dribble but when he's in the final third he starts to make plays, whereas he used to dribble and make plays before reaching the final third when younger.
No the knee injury made him worse if he rested for 8 months he would have most likely be better than Messi currently
Funny how people say that if he never got this injury he would've been purely unstobbale yet after this injury he went on to have not only his best ever individual season to date but one of the best individual seasons ever. This injury in a lot of ways helped him
Whatever criticisms they throw upon Cristiano, they can never put this good man down. They are only making him stronger and more powerful in the field. Way to go, Cristiano ! Dont even pay attention to these people so jealous of you !

1. Pace
2. Shooting with both legs.
3. Physics
4. Understanding the play
5 dangerous without the ball, this means that when a player does not have the ball he will seek a spot where he can do tge most of.
6. Good/scores with the head.

8. Position..this mean that whenever the ball is heading towards the goal area..the player almost everytime happen to be their and score.

@@midget420 Messi is so complete he can only manage 2 goals in a average league against defenders from Brest, Clermont, Metz, etc? Don’t make me laugh. Messi proved he was protected all these years at Barca in la liga, when he finally moved he can’t even prove himself in the French league which is quite pathetic really. Ronaldo broke records at Real Madrid and scored 50 goals at Manchester United in more difficult leagues against tougher opponents.
