This Portugal side only scored in one match that World Cup, which was against North Korea in a 7-0 victory. Their tactics were VERY defensive. In the words of the commentator, "it was real parasite football". Many times Ronaldo was the only threat Portugal had up front. It was quite sad how disappointing of a tournament this was for Ronaldo, he was at his physical peak but was hindered by the tactics and players around him.
Exactly if we had 2-3 more big characters like we have now in Portugal then they would have surely gone through higher stages

2010 - loss against spain, the later world champion. Acceptable performance, but only last 16.
2014 - complete failure
2018 - loss against uruguay, even a smaller country, although they were very successfull 70 years ago
2022 - loss against football giants morocco.
The theory, that CR7 would have done something if he was born in a bigger nation, does not make sense, if you look at the results. They failed three times in a row against smaller nations.
Morocco has 3 times more people than Portugal, which has 3 times more people than Uruguay, but Morocco is no big football nation.
One reason for Portugals poor to mediocre results is CR7's poor perfomance in the knockout stages, which finally disqualifies him as a goat candidate.

Portugal has produced very good players for decades. It all comes down to poor tactics from managers, post Scolari era. Before Scolari, it was hit and miss, really. In the years after Figo, Rui Costa, Nuno Gomes, Maniche, Pauleta etc, sure, you could definitely say that Ronaldo has been the focal point, but the others around him were always talented. The problem is that Ronaldo always had that responsibility imposed on him. That's now how it should be, though. Football ⚽️ is a team sport, and all the spotlight on Ronaldo tended to get annoying. It still does, because so many other players are overlooked.

You're half right, but Portugal has never really been a one-man team (with the exception of Eusébio in 1966 ). In the 90s to mid 2000s, Portugal had a golden generation of players, but when Ronaldo made his international debut at Euro 2004, it was just adding to a squad with already a ton of firepower (Figo, Rui Costa, Maniche, Pauleta, Simão, Nuno Gomes, etc) It all comes down to tactics of the managers, particularly after Scolari left . Even now with Santos. All that talent around him at his disposal, but he can't use then to his advantage. With an overly cautious approach and slow build-up, it causes problems. It becomes predictable and aneurysm inducing lol I'm Portuguese, but I'm not gonna sugarcoat. It's not fun lol

You haven't watched the full matches and I can tell, otherwise you wouldn't be saying this. That Portugal team underperformed massively and was incredibly dysfunctional. They played some of, if not, the most negative football I've seen from any team Ronaldo has been apart of. As a forward, Ronaldo was playing on the hardest difficulty.
He is the most cursed player.. He can do all and did all that, but still, in some ppl eyes, he only scores goal.. In his long-spanning career, he transformed so much.. Being in a weak Portugal team, he still puts his team on world cup and tried his best.. Now his current team players are strong but he's old. He played in England, Spain, Italy and England.. He doesn't take any time for adaptability. He easily performed at the highest level at any team at any time.. Media's most hated footballer.. Always run him down.. If he were in Brazil, France or Argentina , he easily would've been lifted a World Cup.. He's in decline of his career with very bad time. Good luck for his World Cup journey.. Also a bunch of players who didn’t actually play, including Quaresma and Nani who were both not selected for the national team. The team was weak, the tactics from Quieroz were too defensive and poor and the whole team performed poorly in general. It was not a good team so stop pretending like it was.
