    I know there is a lot of people who had bad experience, but that does not mean all VW are bad. I had a 2010 VW Tiguan with 130K miles, no problem at all. Not even electrical. I gave that car away to a family's friend's son as gift for his birthday. I just bought another 2018 VW Tiguan. 6yr/72K warranty should take care of any issue, if any. That's better than BMW and MBZ, and I also own a MBZ diesel. No issue with that too. I know services are more expensive, but if done properly; there shouldn't be any problem. My 2002 Toyota Camry had the whole transmission replaced under warranty, and it was made in Japan too. My friends Lexus GS350 had transmission issues, so bad that Lexus voluntary returned her money or replacement. Now she drives an Infiniti.

      That’s true, but they are boring cars. No enthusiast say they are into Toyota or Lexus. Beatles and micro bus are very sought after. VW GTI drives better than anything that Toyota makes. Toyota can only brag about their reliability. Even the current CEO of Toyota, direct descendant of the Toyota founder, Akio Toyoda complains that their car lack excitement or soul.

    • @FLJAMESFL
      @FLJAMESFL Před 6 lety +2

      Mike Cha Would have to disagree with that statement about “boring”. Maybe in the pass, but now Toyota is killing it with design. I drive a 2016 Lexus GS 200T F-Sport now and that car is amazing to drive in all moods. I feel 100% confident in the car’s ability to handle whatever I throw at it. And this is coming from a guy that owned a 2007 VW GLI Fahrenheit edition. Boy, did I love that car. Still regret selling it till this day. Plan on getting the LC or LS next. Now talk about design and performance all rolled up into one.

    • @FLJAMESFL
      @FLJAMESFL Před 6 lety

      Mike Cha Nice chatting with you as well. Yah I’m definitely going to say Audi is ahead of Lexus in performance branding because they have been in the game for a very long time. Lexus has really just started a true effect in performance brands. Give Lexus another 10 years to truly focus on performance enhanced vehicles and they will be killing it soon too. Btw I do love your drama garage. LoL I have nothing against the “Germans” except having to go into the repair-shop Unexpectedly. I hate service, period.

    Don't know how the EPA mileage estimates is so low. The 200- mile drive home home from the dealer got me 46.9 mpg and the whole first tank with gradually increase spirited runs to help break in the engine got a combined 42 mpg and well over 500 miles out of that tank. That's as good as my TDIs would do, with gas currently $1.00 per gallon less.
    The engine also has a very TDI-similar feel with lots of torque. You read it right. Very surprising engine.

The Jetta will likely be the blandest choice, cheaper and bigger than the Golf, with more emphasis on tech for your dollar. That's fine. I hope they sell plenty, and keep bringing over good Golfs, GTIs, and Rs! I feel like they're the choice to have as a daily driver for an enthusiast looking to spend reasonable money on a car that won't cause them problems but be enjoyable. :)

    It's a Commuter Car with different trim levels...and it does the job well. I own a 2019 Jetta SE, and put 70 miles a day on it. I get decent driving manners, nice acceleration and crisp handling. I also get between 35 and 40 miles a gallon, if not more. It does what it was designed to do, and it does it flawlessly. If you want performance, then wait for the GLI. My only complaint is that the passenger seat height adjustment was deleted on all trim levels.

    People wondering and complaining where the 1.8T and independent rear suspension went, as usual in CZcams comments, missing or willfully omitting the point.
    This is the lowest cost Jetta VW has ever offered. They really, really stepped up the quality of the interior. They had to cut costs elsewhere, like the rear suspension. 100% of drivers will notice the interior while an insignificant fraction would ACTUALLY notice the rear suspension.
    Complaining about the rear suspension...are you gonna track this 1.4 liter 4 banger? How the hell do you drive that you're worried about understeer on your way to pick up your kids from karate? If the rear suspension plays a role in your daily commute you need your license revoked. You'll have to be pushing the envelope HARD for the back end to get squirrely.
    That said....
    We haven't seen the GLI yet....
    That's likely where you'll see the 1.8T (probably 2.0T) and upgraded rear suspension. Why? Because THAT'S the buyer way more likely to notice the increased power and handling. That's for the daddies (and some mommies) who want to drop off the kids and go blast through some twisties.

    • @marco1173
      @marco1173 Před 6 lety +6

      Precisely. They had to cut some nice things in order to keep the price down and upgrade the interior to appease the buying masses. Most drivers won't miss either the 1.8 nor the independent suspension. I think the GLI will certainly be back with the 2.0T but if VW is smart they should also bring back the 1.8T Sport as a lower cost alternative to the GLI aimed at enthusiasts. That was the sweet spot for the MK6.

    • @carcrasher88YT
      @carcrasher88YT Před 6 lety +2

      The GLI will likely be a 2.0T, since that's the engine the GTI uses, and the fact that the new Jetta is more closely related to the Mk7 Golf than the Mk6 was (Mk6 Jetta was the A5 platform, specifically the PQ35, closely related to the Mk6 Golf, whereas the Mk7 upgrades to the MQB platform that the Mk7 Golf, Tiguan, and Atlas use).
      If the 1.8 returns at all, it'll probably be under the new GT trim package first seen on the '18 Passat, but given that the NMS Passat ditched the 1.8T for the 2018 model year, those chances are looking a little slimmer. It'll probably be 1.4T for lower spec models and the 2.0T (possibly upgraded) for the GLI.

    An attractive exterior and better fuel economy appears to be good news. But the elephant in the room is the reliability history - German cars are good for 3 to 4 years then they start to get very expensive to maintain so most people get rid of them. Hence a 48% depreciation in resale value in only 3 years.

  • @mediocresultan5610
    @mediocresultan5610 Před 5 lety +1

    Jetta doesnt sell much in Europe but here in Turkey people still prefer compact sedans and they pay tons of money for jettas which have those shitty dsg transmissions which break down in a short period of time and cost their users tons of money. If you are looking for reliability stick to the Japanese which you can reach all of their types there in the US

    I actually find it _easy_ to argue with that terribly ugly oversized grille. Plus the lack of a manual transmission on anything other than the base S trim level. And if a torsion beam rear suspension is supposed to save space compared to IRS, then why are the trunk and fuel tank both smaller than the previous Jetta, despite the car being three inches longer and almost an inch wider?

      The way VW does things, they'll probably bring over the Euro Passat once they get a new and improved version (meaning we get the old version which is new to us). The Passat is VW's second best selling car (behind the Jetta) in the U.S., they'll simply redesign a "North America" model or bring over the current Euro Passat and call it an all new model.

      Ew. I have to strongly disagree with both Trollbuster and Christopher Calder. I can't believe you think VWs are stylish and 'sometimes go over the top'. I feel their designers must all be 62 year old men waiting to retire. Everytime they (and Audi) comes out with something, it already looks 10 years old. And it's not classy, it's just lack of imagination and passion. Perfect look for Shanghai taxicabs.

    • @BanBiofuels
      @BanBiofuels Před 6 lety

      I understand your feeling. I think the 2018 Hyundai Sonata and the new Hyundai Accent are works of industrial art and far better visual designs than any VW or Audi. I think the Jetta is better looking than any Honda or Toyota sedan. The Jetta is not perfect and not totally new. I like the 2018 Jaguars, but they are not totally new either. If you create something truly ugly because you are just trying to be new and edgy, then you have made a big mistake. Maybe Audi is too conservative, but I can understand their reluctance for radical change that might go horribly wrong.
