- EARLY CHRISTMAS ENGLISH CHINA & POTTERY SHOPPING: Spode, Duchess China, Wedgwood & Burleigh// Happy Tuesday everyone, It's the end of October and we probably aren't the only people starting to think about Christmas and Christmas presents. Since Stoke-on-Trent is only a 40 minute drive from us and because we both really love English pottery & china, we thought it might be a wonderful idea for some early Christmas shopping and visited some of the factory shops to look for presents. We start with the amazing Spode Museum Trust Heritage Centre where they have such a wonderful museum shop which we can highly recommend. Spode China is simply beautiful! We then head to Duchess China 1888 which has the cutest factory shop too and then go to Wedgwood for tea and some browsing. Last but not least our go to, the Middleport Factory, to get some of our beloved Burleigh Pottery. Enjoy! Kirsten & Joerg xx

I love looking at china. My aunt worked in a pottery in Pennsylvania a very long time ago ( I’m 75, so it really was a long time ago!) Unfortunately the pottery is long gone. They produced very sturdy pieces for diners and restaurants. I have a few pieces that I treasure because of the memories of going with my aunt to pick them out in their shop.

I loved your statement: “I love everything.” That’s how I feel about china and pottery displays. Younger people here where I live want all their dishes to be plain, so stores don’t really display dishes anymore, at least not the pretty ones. I loved going along with the two of you on this video!

Sad thing is that we used to have quite a few potter's here. Too bad they've closed.
I can imagine! Sadly a lot of potteries no longer exist in the UK either since a lot of the production shifted to Asia or other countries where production and labour is cheap.
I love Burleigh too. I've been collecting it for about 30 years, as I've always loved blue and white China it just goes so well in my country cottage.

My daughter started me a set of Spode Christmas Tree 3 years ago and I adore it!! I add pieces whenever it goes on sale...I now have a 12 place setting with several serving dishes...its so pretty on the table at Christmas!! Thank--you for another wonderful video!!

this is at once beautiful and painful to me. We were finally able to visit the UK this summer and actually stopped in Stoke at Emma Bridgewater and Portmorein(sp) which were nice. But, oh! had we gone to any of these shops you are touring it would have been so wonderful. Now I know for the future, thank you!
My husband and I bought a Royal Winton yellow chintzware tea set in the Welbeck pattern years ago. It gives us such a happy feeling every time we use it (almost daily)! I understand your obsession with fine china and pottery. Once that bug bites you there is no going back. 😅 The Spode museum was wonderful. Everything you purchased was absolutely perfect!

We have visited the Wedgwood factory shop and the things are beautiful, but we’re with you, we find it very sad that the pieces are not made in the U.K. Thank you for supporting and promoting the potteries. ❤

Everything, from all the shops, was just exquisite. If I were starting a collection, I wouldn't be able to choose between all the patterns and designs! I suppose that's why so many pottery and china sets become heirlooms. The classic pieces are just so beautiful and timeless!

I have the same philosophy on purchasing. I have blue Italian Spode and absolutely love your porcelain collection. I also only purchase British porcelain made in Britain.
Thank you! Yes, Germany has a huge history in porcelain production. Actually Duchess China was called Dresden Porcelain Company when it was founded which was misleading but it was used because the porcelain from Dresden was so prestigious. These are my candyshops.
The idea of an Alice in Wonderland series was so unique and brilliant.
Never heard of anything like that before.
My ideal home would be an old Victorian House, with a huge butler’s pantry that has floor to ceiling cabinets with glass doors to hold all the different China patterns, enough different patterns to change the table settings for each meal, and not repeat the patterns for a year!
Every visited location was full of absolutely gorgeous pieces! Each store had its own feeling.. we loved it all.. your Christmas ornaments are so beautiful.. and all your choices so fun to see.. pasta bowls are such a soft blue.. enjoy everything and thank you for sharing this wonderful day with all of us!!❤

OMG, BLUE ! Lott’s of BLUE. 🤣😻🤩 THANK U, FOR SHARING. I lost everything when our town, Paradise California, burned to the ground 5yrs ago. When my home is rebuilt I will replace, what I call, memory pieces. It may not be the exact item but a replica of a gift from someone special or an inherited piece.
Did u know that porcelain survives in a fire. 1800 degrees the cups survived but the glaze melted. My porcelain dolls head & extremities survived too. 🙀😺
