A Hollywood studio as big as Netflix didn’t think product placement like that would be a big deal? Yeah, right! I’m not implying you’re a liar but I do think someone above that lawyer ain’t telling the truth. If you had said this in 1980, I might’ve believed it but not in the 2020s when product placement is engrained into Hollywood the way it is. I can accept that they didn’t know it would explode in popularity the way it did but I don’t buy that they never contacted Eggo and weren’t compensated. Studios just don’t do that. They would’ve just used a generic box of waffles not Eggos… and they wouldn’t have placed such emphasis on the product itself the way they did.

The Reverse Product Placement of Wonka candy is certainly an interesting tale, but what _really_ takes the cake is the Reverse Reverse Product Placement (or would it be Closed-System Product Placement) in _Spaceballs._ One of the conditions of the agreement allowing Mel Brooks to create this now-iconic _Star Wars_ parody was that he couldn’t produce or commission any merchandise to promote the film. In response to this, Brooks created a bunch of official Spaceballs merch to put _in_ the movie itself.

Especially for Mike Teavee to show the many things you could watch on TV, but just because you watch TV doesn't mean you know everything, and that TV can be wrong. Also, who wouldn't want to sing about how great your master is while being burned? Some of those non-chocolate candies were not originally made by Nestle and existed on their own, and were only branded as Wonka for short periods on and off, I'm assuming it's a matter of licensing deals coming and going. Some were independent brands that Nestle acquired and absorbed over the years, which is why they have nothing to do with the book. Looks like if Nestle acquired a brand that had a certain kooky vibe they added it the wonka line. Fun Dip for example is from the 50's. Laffy Taffy was two completely different products with different ingredients. The wide flat bars were first but were not called Laffy Taffy in the 80's. It was Stretchy and Tangy Taffy by the brand Sunshine. Then Laffy Taffy came out as cubes sold by the piece, then those disappeared and it changed to the small flat pieces and ropes. Later they absorbed the older Sunshine taffy (The large wide flat bars) and rebranded it as Laffy Taffy but kept the same formulation. You'll notice the ropes and small strips are mild and similar to Starburst in texture but the wide large bars are much tangier with a stronger flavor and have a creamy almost fluffy texture. These wide bars are one of my favorite candies on earth and it would come and go throughout the 80's and 90's. It would disappear for years at a time. Whenever we traveled as a kid, I searched for it at every stop. Thank you for reading this rant from a middle aged candy lover.

Your channel is so underrated!! You’ve quickly become one of my new favorite CZcamsrs even though your channel is pretty new. Your videos are very polished and well made, and I like to put them on as background when I’m doing boring activities lol. Keep up the amazing work!! ❤

I might be dumb but is right to consider wonka candies as one of the first or most iconic ARG campaigns from a corporate business. Although like a golden ticket wouldn’t actually get you to the factory, $10,000 is pretty badass and would probably get you in any chocolate factory around the world. Beside that point i think quaker or nestle was defiantly thinking ahead of its time. I’m just stuck on if this was just a competition or a considerable ARG for its time. LMAO

I had the 2005 DVD 📀 when I was little and the little movie paper they put inside had a scratch and sniff thing for the Wonka Bars and it was the best chocolate 🍫 smell I’ve ever smelled. They were discontinued by the time I was old enough to remember wanting one and asking my mom for one. Finding out they were mediocre makes me sad but at least I can stop the 18 year long “what if” questions that have been playing in my head for the past almost two decades

I also had that realization one day that a lot of products I see used to have a Wonka label. It’s so wild to think that things like Nerds and Gobstoppers used to be in that group together but are now just typical candy

I remember as a kid going to the store with my family and seeing some different Wonka branded chocolates. Then one day, they just stopped selling them. I think there was like, a marshmallow one? I don't remember, but it was a weird experience that I always think of when hearing the Wonka name. (this would have probably been like, 2010-16 if I had to guess)
