    I really like their push towards also taking and holding legendary planets. It's a nice little extra thing for them to do and do well. Also their commander helping them defend their home system means it's going to be very tricky to stop them getting those points. I'm loving this new update for them. They may be the next faction I play now.

      Yes, it really makes them less one-dimensional. Not hugely so, but enough to make their play style diversify a bit.

    Loving the Win-New! Dane & the design team did a phenomenal job addressing the known weaknesses with buffs that were both thematic and meaningful. The Omega PN is also a useful change.

    Their hero lets them pull a theoretical 9 point swing in 1 round. Take mecatol, pop imperial score 2 point objective, use hero score another 2 point objective + mecatol. End of round Score a two point objective and a secret. Realistically a 6 point swing is more likely, and without mecatol a 4 point mid round swing s possible. The ability to come from behind and score imperial when no one is looking strong.

    • @RulebreakerBoardgames
      @RulebreakerBoardgames  Před 3 lety +7

      Whoa. I didn't consider that you could effectively use the Hero to do Imperial for a second time in one round. That is insanity.

      This is what I was thinking, that does this mean that they can do a primary ability twice? And what if its already used? If it unexhausts the already used strategy card then it's HUGE. Winnu can really jump big whatever they do, twice. Double building, double warfare, double leadership etc...

    The Winnu have one of the best mechs in terms of objective scoring. Having mechs that can place structures means they can score the new Public objectives T1 and 2 much easier. And makes the construction card redundant for them, so they're not forced to pick construction and can focus on better strategy cards which is huge.

    Funny enough in my last game as TI4 (no expansion) I actually won with the Winnu. Granted I was playing with inexperienced players and even with my suggestions that they wouldn't attack me and take MR from me. I think they were too afraid to attack first and be open to attack from each other. Plus I snuck in a secret object for the win so they had less time then they thought.

    Id actually suggest dark energy tap if 1. you think you can grab tech and get grav drive for a turn 2 mecatol and 2. There's a couple of empy systems with frontier tokens around you to get some early game advantages as the frontier deck is actually very good

    • @RulebreakerBoardgames
      @RulebreakerBoardgames  Před 3 lety +1

      It's tricky to get around early as Winnu though. I like Dark Energy Tap as one you research early, but maybe not as the one you take at the beginning.

  • @janheinwatses3312
    @janheinwatses3312 Před 3 lety +1

    Their best starting tech would be AIDA. Go for Tech SC and get Self Assembly, build a Carrier + 2 Mechs when Warfare is popped. Profit from their awesome mechs from the start, and enabling early War Sun plays.

    • @RulebreakerBoardgames
      @RulebreakerBoardgames  Před 3 lety +2

      Yeah I think you might be right. That would be the aggressive option, but maybe that's how we should be viewing the Winnu now.

    • @XilbusZ
      @XilbusZ Před 3 lety +2

      My suggestion is either anti-mass or dark energy tap. This lets you tech into grav drive during round 1 and claim mec as first action of round 2.

    Also, I also like the Commander ability but in a game with the Mahact, once they have a Winnu command token, that bonus would be nullified. Which is worth keeping in mind.

  • @XilbusZ
    @XilbusZ Před 3 lety +2

    I've played 3 games so far as Winnu since PoK. One of these was a win, a second another player simply had too many things go right for and won before the stage 2 objectives came out - i had the win on the second action of those stage 2's.
    These guys are a powerhouse now. Their agent lets you build a mec right off the bat. You are going to want to do this while following warfare so that you are putting a pds down on the planets you claim as you push towards mec. If you can find the resources to get a second mec, do that. Then research grav drive off of technology and you're solid to claim mec on your first action round 1 (Assuming you started with either anti mass or dark energy).
    The commander is going to stop the other big 'go for mec' factions like saar and sol down hard. Prior to PoK they wouldn't have thought twice about trying to bounce Winnu off of there, now they aren't likely to even bother. Only faction that's going to be a threat are the Muaat and their war suns.
    Then that hero! Most hero's give their factions a push towards winning, the Winnu's is literally an I win button. If you are on mec, do Imperial, get that extra point and score an objective. If you were at 8, you just won.

    • @RulebreakerBoardgames
      @RulebreakerBoardgames  Před 3 lety +1

      Wow. After reading that I am wondering if they're gotten too large a boost in PoK? Excited to give them a try.

    The real question is:
    Sarween tools or dark energy tap?

    • @RulebreakerBoardgames
      @RulebreakerBoardgames  Před 3 lety +3

      I think Sarween. Only having one carrier at the start means you're probably going to explore planets, not empty systems.

    • @KingScal64
      @KingScal64 Před 3 lety +2

      I disagree, I think it will depend on your slice. If you have a blue skip close by, I would say that Psycboarchaeology is a possibility, but a Blue would probably be preferable, either anti mass or dark energy tap. It lets you get grav drive round 1 guaranteed, and while they are strong at Mecatol, you are still wasting an ability of yours (bloodties) if you dont get to Mecatol before others.

    • @johnmay9598
      @johnmay9598 Před 3 lety +1

      @@RulebreakerBoardgames You don't need a carrier to explore empty systems. There's no need to land ground forces anywhere. You could just use your cruiser for that, or build a destroyer. So depending on what your game board looks like, it may make a lot of sense to grab those tokens. The wild card relic fragments are pretty useful.

    • @XilbusZ
      @XilbusZ Před 3 lety +1

      There is also an agenda which let's you put more than that down, but even if it passes - don't. You're just begging to be hit with the action card that wipes out all pds on one planet.
