      So you can earn over 100K with Unity?
      How can one do that without having Unity know about it?
      How does Unity even get the knowledge about it?

    Unreal doesn't take any money from the first 1 million dollars you make. If you make 1 million and one dollar. You only have to pay 5% of that one dollar. (If you make a VR game and sell it on the Oculus Store, and you sign for an special agreement with Epic and Oculus, you don't pay anything for the first 5 million dollars you make).

    I wanna shout out Aseprite too. While not free, it's fairly cheap ($19.99 USD) and it great for pixel art for 2D games with a more retro look and even does a decent job at letting you create animations sliced properly for game engines. Love the video great info

Note also libre is a like a 4-5yr old fork of aseprite and missing some of the updates / current features too. As a personal preference I also find it shady and kinda rude to undercut a dev over 20 so they can offer it for free with little to no change. Don't get me wrong, I support gimp as a free alternative to Photoshop and libre office as a free alternative to ms office, but they made significant changes to the program and made something kinda hard to get more really available

    I agree with all of this besides the sound and the engine. Unreal is just, well… Unreal. Sure you have to learn C++ but it’s just a better engine for sooooo much stuff. If you’re doing a 2d game, maybe unity would be good but anything 3D, use unreal engine. As for the sound, Reaper dude. Reaper is free and literally professional quality. I use it and so do many of my producer friends. If you throw a little money at it for plugins, it takes it to the next level. Beats the crap out of a subscription. Just my 2 cents

    • @blackivy011
      @blackivy011 Před 2 lety +4

      @@monstereugene You just have access to soooo many amazing resources for 3D Art Design and assets. Quixel gives you literally REAL looking assets for free. Lumen is the built in dynamic lighting system and it's absolutely breathtaking. You have lighting that doesn't need to be baked that bounces off of mesh surfaces like in real life. Then there's Nanite, which allows you to have all these insane amounts of triangles/polygons with minimal lag at all. Not to mention, the chaos engine which makes fully destructible maps soooo easy to do. That's just a few things. Unity is amazing too though seriously. You can do most everything in Unity that you can in Unreal, it's just different. But, it is no question that C# is much harder on the processor than C++. This makes larger, open world, 3D graphic intensive games lean heavily towards Unreal Engine for performance. I've used both and I have to say, the system in place for crossplatform controls on Unreal Engine is waaaay easier to understand and use than in Unity IMO. One last point is that AAA studios use C++ dude. Source 2? C++. Fortnite? C++ (Unreal Engine). Fallout? C++ (the Gamebryo engine). It's no question that if you want to work in the AAA industry doing code, you need to learn C++ anyway. So, why wouldn't you use Unreal Engine? It's a no brainer to me. These are just some reasons I chose to go with Unreal. It's ultimately up to you! I'm very biased from my own experience.

    • @etherweb6796
      @etherweb6796 Před 2 lety

      @@blackivy011 At this point the Godot 4 renderer has a decent amount of Unreal's 3D engine optimization, and let's you code in C++. Plus the Godot node system is much more organized than Unreal's system. The biggest reason to use Unreal is to easily release on consoles.

    You were misleading when it came to unity and unreal, if your game makes 1mil you need to have a pro subscription for 1 year which is $48000 for a single dev, essentially the same amount as 1mil game with unreal. Plus unreal does not have a 100k and 200k tier to worry about, and the risk to a business lying about their income so they don't have to pay is not really worth it if you are found out.

    >"Some people still ask me why I'm libertarian"
    You know, you could "just" build your own game engine to skip any fees from engine (which are also in Unity), and your own distribution platform to skip the Steam fee.
    And, what's most important for this argument, since neither of these two would actually disappear in libertarian society, quite on contrary, you can always "just" start your own nation to avoid taxes.
    I consider taxes a great deal considering how much pain in the ass creating and mantaining my own nation would be. I feel like it would actually be quite a bit more complicated than mantaining Steam, which takes the 30% cut.

    While I appreciate you trying to help out the community, I really must point out a problem with your logic when it comes to the Unreal Engine, the license says they want 5% of anything OVER 1 million. And that the first million is free and clear, so if steam takes 33% and then whatever taxes come out to, Unreal is NOT taking 5% of the first million so if you make 1 million and 5 dollars, you owe Unreal a quarter, so your figures are very off, you are likely to spend more on Unity's licensing fee's than you ever will on Unreal's licensing fee's and it's per project so if you make 2 million dollars on two projects making 1mil a peice you owe Unreal nothing. Secondly defrauding Unity by breaking a contract (by downloading and using Unity you are bound to TOS) isn't a good look or a good idea. I hope this was a joke and no one took this seriously, and the defense of "Well it's still 5% if you make over a million" are there many indies seriously making over 1mil? Let's be real here.
