  • This was my first ever experience coating out a sign with Ronan Bulletin paint, at least what I can remember....
    Because I could not find any White 101L 1 Shot I tried the Ronan. I will say I was a little disappointed to say the least, there was 1 good point but only 1 that stood out over the 1 shot.

    Not taking sides here but there is a difference in coverage between bulletin color and lettering enamel. Bulletin color is purposely developed to see through on reprints and for shorter term durability on billboards…aka bulletins. Been painting for 40 plus years. Hope this helps. I will be subscribing.

      Appreciate that info, been using 1 shot since the "lead" days. I guess there is a time and place for both and I learned something new. I never really strayed much from what worked, I just worked with what I had.

      I did not know that Bulletin was design for repainting
      I was thinning down white for that .
      I know there’s a big difference between Ronan Lettering Enamel and Ronan Bulletin. Partially in longevity
      I use Ronan Aquacote frequently , I have a couple old quarts of black and white and there great . But recently I heard since it changed owners there have been some coverage issues with the Aquacote.
      The Ronan Lettering Enamel is comparable to one shot and I know a lot of sign painters that prefer it over one shot.
      And I don’t use one shot for rolling if I can help it.
      I order from McLogan and Harbor Sales
      Blick as well sometimes.

      A good comparison would be one shot bulletin colors . Not lettering enamel. Try ronan lettering enamel instead.

    I have to agree with HotRod Jen. You have to compare apples to apples. I work for Pacific Coast Sign Supply in Portland OR. We have sold 1-Shot and Ronan for a very long time. Most of our long time sign writers have had to switch to Ronan. For the most part they have been happy with Ronan's color, gloss and coverage. If there has been a complaint it has been with coverage. Most of our really experienced guys will add a dab of black to help with converage. Sadly 1-Shot has had a very difficult time with the supply chain. We have started getting shipments but it is still a struggle.

    maybe if you used ronan lettering enamel "one stroke" instead of the bulletin line to compare to 1shot it would be different.

      @TheSignGuy  Před 2 lety +2

      Yeah, I just used what they sent me. It was not a fair comparison but now I'm working with the "one stroke" it's not that bad.

    The Ronan comparison to 1-Shot should be there 1-Stroke line and not bulletin paint.

      Gotcha, I learned my lesson and now use some RONAN lettering enamel because the 1Shot is still hard to get get.

    I'm getting ready to buy Ronan paints after 45 years of one shot mainly because of availability in my remote location. I watched your video but tell me.., did you use white one shot lettering enamel as a comparison for the Ronan Bulletin enamel? The lettering enamels are always much better and I rarely use bulletins anymore except for large backgrounds and sometimes too thin coats goes better than a thick one anyway

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  Před rokem +2

      To be 100% honest with this video I should have used the Ronan Lettering Enamel not bulletin. Because I'm in the same situation as you with the 1 Shot I've been using the Ronan Enamel for about 6 months now. So far it's been working pretty good, A few things I prefer over 1 shot: The smell is not as bad, dries faster and it's available. I will go back to 1 Shot once available again , because I have years and years of 1 Shot signs out there. I always prefer to paint in 1 coat, some colors of Ronan will take some touch up but for the most part it will work out just fine.

      I always use a primer coat & 2 finish coats even if it's one shot. Ronan's a very good paint. Use the lettering enamel for a fair comparison next time sign guy.

    Do you have to Prime it before using the Ronan Bulletin paint?

    • @TheSignGuy
      @TheSignGuy  Před rokem

      Depends on what you are painting, I used it on MDO. But I buy my MDO pre-primed, but yes I would always use a primer. KILTZ2 or Jay Cooks primer is what I use for all my stuff.
