- After a year of suspense, the 2016 Africa Twin is finally here! Well, it's in South Africa anyway, which is where we went to put Honda's new ADV bike through its paces. Thirteen years after the original model went out of production, Honda has resurrected the legendary Africa Twin name and slapped it on the side of a big-wheeled, 1000cc machine that looks like it belongs in a desert race. But how does it work? Watch the video to find out.

On two wheels is by far and a way, the best motorcycle show on CZcams! Love ur stuff guys, it's just too short though 😜
Whoa they named a continent after a bike
edit: i am re watching this video and completely forgot about this comment so you already know i came back down here to comment the same thing
Coz back in early 20 crf dominate the african really on 2 wheels category .. so this new model is tribute to the old one
@@suvrabhattacharjee9366 u didn't understand what he means to say
@@vishwanathdeshpande7469 yes sorrry i read it carefully now I realizd .. my bad
@Donald Trump's Space Force well aren't you a fucking bad ass?
Great review Ari & team! Really well done. It appears you guys like this bike as much as we do. Perhaps we should grab a few of them and go ride a Backcountry Discovery Route to see how they do moto-camping?
Ari Henning did this ever happen?
love the top gear'ish intro . by far the most entertaining motorcycle review etc related channel. we want MOAR!
I don't understand why this channel doesn't have a LOT more views/subscribers.
Hands down the best motorcycle enthusiast youtube channel.
Great work guys!!
Rain, gravity, and Santa! My worst enemy's have teamed up.
I've seen a lot of motorcycle shows, and On Two Wheels is definitely the best of them all BY FAR. It's always a great joy to watch you, guys. You're doing an awesome work! I wish you will keep up doing it forever!
Best wishes from Russia.
+Ari Henning, you, guys, should totally test-drive and make a video
about new VFR1200X/XD Crosstourer: it's a magnificent bike!
Living in the Netherlands where everything is flat, buying a bike like this justifies going to countries like Romania, famous for their dirt bike races :)
Great video guys. Can't wait see more Africa Twin!
Easily the best review I've seen of this bike. On two wheels is always great, no nanna riding. The Africa twin isn't even close to my type of bike (sports), but the show is always great.
Nice video. Would love to see a review against the 800 and 1200 GSs. Keep doing this amazing job guys, best motorcycle channel in CZcams definitively.
This is one of my favorite videos you guys have made!
You guys just keep getting better & better at putting awesome content out. Best motorcycle chanel on CZcams by far!
Excellent first ride video!
would love to see a review of a 2016 Aprilia Tuono Factory.
If you have rode one is worth trading my 1000 for the 1100?
Gotta love this show!
yeah it'd be awesome if they just did a little bit of research on the product in Review
You guys are my favorite Motorcycle Channel, keep it up.
Awesome video guys! I'm happy you guys came to South Africa and looks like you had a good time! Hello from Cape Town :D
Thanks for another awesome vid guys! I can't wait till we get one at the shop so I can check it out up close.
Best review i've seen so far! great job!
Awesome review. I think the Honda CRF1000L Africa Twin is going to be a purchase this coming year. NICELY DONE GUYS
Great vid, taking one out this afternoon and excited 😁
First off excellent job on the video guys .... well done! If I wasn't already drooling over the new Africa Twin I am now. Gotta have one :)
I decided I wanted this bike all of 3 seconds after finding out it was about to be released. Can't wait to get one.
Got DCT on order. Thanks for the great review and video
So cool. Great episode, guys!
i just got the dct european model, injuries make it hard to use a clutch lever so this was perfect for me. great breakdown and great use of the equipment.
ridiculously great content! love you guys
cant wait till ya'll do a head to head with it and ktm/ bmw ! great vid as always
Finally a new video! Thank you!
Nice! love you're videos! Happy holidays to you motorcycle magazine. Can't wait until the next one :)
Mr. Henning, you lucky son-of-a...... :D. Been waiting for this. Thanks guys! Great video! Awesome bike!
Such a great video. As always.
Zmy favorite video out of all the africa twin videos so far!!!! Well done hahaha
Really Amazing video guys
Can't wait to see the off-road comparisons with the GS and others.
Nice review !!
Best show! Keep it up!
Excellent review. ...and entertaining too.
Awesome bike!
WOW! Thats a awesome bike! South Africa is truly beautiful...Such nice terrain...
Great review, but i still love my KTM "the Bull" 690...
Would love to see longer episodes!
The DCT reveals all the power it's hiding and improved shift timing by using the paddles in manual. It's programmed for fuel efficiency as the priority when in auto.
that was really good :) i enjoyed it a lot
I underestimated this bike, but it looks like a ton of fun
Wow, so cool. Looks like the Honda might be more of a dirt bike than the ADV bikes from Yamaha, Triumph, KTM and BMW? So many killer options. Too much fun.
Great looking bike. Hopefully now that Honda is finished with the CRF1000L they can start on the XR650L.
First class review!
Great video/review ...Thanks! I'm hoping the dual clutch transmission will transform motorcycling in a way the "new" 7/8/9 speed gearboxes have done for car drivers.
This is the first new bike I have wanted in a great while and would make me not miss my Suzuki V-strom 650...also I'd be back to an all Honda garage (lawnmower and wife's car, too).
keep the V-strom! 😇
Spurm My enthusiasm for the Honda has cooled off a bit since my last comment. If anything replaces my 650 Strom, it might be a 1000 Strom...or a Yamaha Super Tenere.
+Aaron Fink good choice! 👍 got a 650 for 5 years now, and still loving it 😎
+Aaron Fink Did you test ride it? Or not that into off-road work?
MrSilus2000 I'd like to think I'd do some off roading if I had one, but realistically I would not. I think the 21" front /18" rear tire setup would be too compromised for on road. I am also not too keen on the tubed tires.
I haven't ridden one and won't get to for a while. I will be working at a motorcycle dealer, so when they are available I'll try to get some seat time.
Awesome man
Great video
Thxs
Which Scorpion jacket are u wearing?
The best on the internet!
Man I've been watching you and Zack for the past two years now. You're equivalent to a motorcycle Top Gear. I'm gonna spam some more videos XD.
great show guys, seen all your episodes!
On an unrelated note to ADV bikes,
Any indication on when you get to review the new Yamaha MT-10?
Awesome!!
Thanks for the video bro, I am going to buy 2016 with 20 000 km, I am 188cm and 110kg, I hope I will fit good
I like to imagine a parallel universe where Zach is in the office with an Africa Twin and Ari somehow got stuck in South Africa with an Razor bike to review hahah
Got my DCT w the gold rims in California back in October
I don't ride dirt but this bike makes me want to start!
Cool bike!
You rode this thing hard! 👍👍
Can't wait to hear you comparing this to F800gs and ktm 1190R
Thanks!!!
+moulin6801 Looking at the price. The Africa Twin in more compareable with the KTM 1050. The 1190R is in a higher price range.
Comparisons are about the ride ! Price is not as important... $2 or $3 K difference is not that much
oohh yeah, new Africa Twin!! very agressive ride review
Gotta admit....Love to ride this thing....
Who am I kidding I think it's a bloody fantastic machine.
i like the africa twin i got a chance to sit on 1 at a bike show today. the seat is very nice and id say it would be good for long rides. it has a very long suspension travel.
OMG! I want one so damn bad!!!
Honda can't be beaten at all. They make the best Motorbikes.
Ari, one of these days you should ask for an Aprilia Mana to test, I guess that you'll like it.
No 2 Cylinder V Engine -was the heart of the africa twin!
+MrStarlight1980, parallel-twins is even better. It has pretty much the same character as a V-twin, but it's MUCH smarter from the engineering point of view (less parts = more power, more reliability, less friction, less weight), better weight distribution and MUCH better mass centralization (giving better handling of the bike), and lower vibrations (if you do them right).
So, parallel twins combines the pros of V-twins and inline engines without having cons of any of them.
In the on road and off road sections did they use the stock wheels or did they switch to street wheels and then dirt wheels. That would greatly improve the feeling in both settings.
that is just s great all round bike
Awesome
Very good report. I've tried the AfricaTwin with the Autoshift on the road an i was not impress with it. I didnt like it. I can understand this option for some bikes because its hard to built a nice, smooth manuel transmission that work well under pressure it is not so easyI I would not change m'y Tiger transmission for that.
Oh my gawd! I want one so bad!
DCT takes time to get used to but once you do... I have a 2010 VFR 1200FD and after learning how to use it right I would have a hard time going back to manual. One big tip DONT use the S or D modes, D can come in handy in very heavy rain when you want to tone it down some but otherwise I just use the "manual" mode and paddle shift. Only drawback is lack of clutch so for slow speed it is all about throttle control. I wish people who do reviews of DCT bikes actually had some experience with them, otherwise they always complain about it since they dont know how to use it right.
Fuck Yeah!!
awesome
Excellent Episode, I just wish it was longer and more in depth. If you're going all the way to Africa, why not a decent 20-30min video?
Good work nonetheless.
I really admire this report 1 as a video producer myself and 2 as a huge Africa Twin fan :)
BUT!! did you say the previous model being 650 CC? it's 750 CC actually..
+Malek Fleifel / Social Media Video Producer Thanks! We'll pass the compliment on to Spenser Robert, our videographer extraordinaire.
The original '88-'89 XVR650 was 647cc. Ari rounded up!
+Motorcyclist Magazine ok then my mistake :D
cheers and keep up the amazing work
+Motorcyclist Magazine I believe it was called the TransAlp. My cousin owned one and I rode it for over a year. It was ok, but had no power.
+B Dazzler
No,Trans Alp is another bike. www.xrv650story.eu/
+Malek Fleifel / Social Media Video Producer Previous Honda Africa (V-configuration) Twin started out as a 650 cc, the XRV650 Africa Twin (1988-89), this morfed into a 750cc , this was initially with shaft drive XLV750R and soon changed to chain drive (produced 1990-2003) - compliments from Africa! ;-)
Top!
impossible to rent a Honda Africa Twin for my Utah and Colorado BDR trip this September and so its 1190 Adv R ...
Wait... so is it possible to pull in the parking brake while riding?(dct model)
Handsome looking bike with nice front end and a cracking sound....just wish for aluminium frame or something to make it lighter. Was expecting an 850cc bike 😕 uno xvl650-750 -next. look like one hell of a ride. low seat height might be a big seller tho
In this episode of On Two Wheels, I think i have cold :D
KTM 990 Adventure had the same engine displacement, but with 115 Hp. I ride one. With the slip on exhaust and a sports air filter + ECU map it is probably 120-125HP. What happened to Honda? Did cat get Honda's VTEC?
guys, what mic are you using to record the audio while on bike?
Why didn't you both go out there as there were two bikes to test
What would recommend for a 60/40 tire for the Twin?
dammm you a good rider!!!
Hi man, I'm thinking of changing bike, and I'm in doubt between Ktm 1190 Adventure R and African Twin CRF1000L. What you guys recommend? I wonder if the African is good for off-road? For Qu own a Tiger 800Xc and squeegee on average some 3000 miles a year with her only off-road.
great!
what's the differace between vfr1200x and african twin
What's that small bike at the beginning of the video?
Wish they still made it in 750cc. Bikes these days are become too bloated and laden with technologies
+march11stoneytony agreed. the yamaha tenere 660 is a great example but, of course, it's not available in the usa. crotch rockets, cruisers and 4 wheelers, oceans of them at the dealerships.
+march11stoneytony I really want Honda or Yamaha to make something to compete with the KTM 690 Enduro R. Hopefully some day...
Reapers261 agreed. i guess the american appetite for the UTV, ATV, sportbikes and cruisers eclipses the relatively tiny group of people who would buy a japanese version of the bike i ride, a KTM 350 exc-f. it's a fantastic machine, i can say that it's improved my riding in ways that all of my previous (dirt) bikes have not. however, it is expensive because it is pretty much ready to go right out of the showroom.
haggeo romero Id love to drink the orange koolaid, but parts for those are expensive. The $250 crank I just replaced was $1200 for for a similar cc KTM
march11stoneytony yup. the idea is they don't break as often.....lol.
Motorcyclist Magazine How did you guys find my home country?
HONDA is the unchallenged king of motorcycling. Has always set benchmarks over the years and continues to do so.
well done I am the 80000 subscriber you're welcome😀
Wow your so lucky lmao
Honda please bring the white color scheme to the US please. I want this bike sooo bad
+ar sen ill be waiting and hoping Honda hears our cries and brings the red white and blue....to the red white and blue. there sales would really jump if they brought the white scheme and the black to the US. Make it happen Honda. I'm waiting
Awesome speed in 4:18 , 175 Km/h in dirt !!!
What is the bike he is riding in the beginning?
ım not a big fan of ADV's but this bike looks so good
Thank you for a great review, compare to R1200Gs which one you think is better for long distance touring..
Thank you very much, i'll stay tune for that.. Happy NY
+Saran Monaraks, for long distance touring the Honda VFR1200X/XD is the best.
