- In this demonstration, I will show you how to use the product called Edge Kote. Edge Kote is helpful for finishing the edges of fabric that you have cut raw (for straps or accents).
You can find the products that I used in this demonstration here:
Edge-Kote - tinyurl.com/yd...
Dye Roller Pen - tinyurl.com/y7...
THAT is what I need! It will allow me to make straps without doubling-under the vinyl to conceal the raw edges! I have already killed one sewing machine sewing through thick layers of vinyl. I KNEW there had to be something to seal and finish the cut edges!
The expert skill to apply edge kote I have ever seen.
Thank you!!
Does it ever rub off? As an example a shoulder strap on clothing?
if you do this on a purse would you put the dye on first then do the edges. or edges first then dye? thanks so much
Thank you for this video. Do you use the coating without a base coat?
can edge coat paint be applied to a stretched canvas? As in making a black undercoat for a painting?
do you know a way to make a thicker edge coat? like a pvc round coating
Thanks
Thank you the answer
how do you clean the brush?
I've got a question if anybody can answer it I have a replica Louis Vuitton cardcase/key chain. I've only had it a few weeks but the dark Brown edging around the letter is coming off peeling up. Can I peel that up and use this to fix it will that work
I don't know if it would work but if it's peeling it's certainly worth giving it a go. You could also try this:sewsweetness.com/2021/02/video-how-to-use-giardini-paints-for-finishing-edges-of-cork-vinyl-or-leather.html
does it prevent fraying of the cork?
Do you seal the edge koat at all????
Hi this is great! Where do you get the other colors? When I click on the link it goes to Amazon and they only have black, brown, & light brown. TIA
Ila Allen... found the manufacturer's site ...they have 4 basic colors listed...might want to contact them directly www.fiebing.com/shop/?item=42731
They only offer a few for Edge Kote. If you want more colors for edge paint, try Angelus, Giardini, or Vernis.
Would this work on cloth backed glitter vinyl?
I just checked the Facebook group and people discuss vinyl interchangeably with cork in regards to Edge Kote so I would say yes!
Hi, what is the name of the roller you used to apply the edge kote? Where did you buy it?
bought at tandyleather.com However, some people use Qtips (just be sure you do not leave and cotton fibers - color can build/deepen/collect around it) some use a wool applicator, some us a glove and finger, find what works for you.
how can i make edge kote at home
Hello, thanks for the great video :)
If by any chances, I got some Edge Kote to the front or the back of the fabric, do you have any tip to clean it ? I've tried nail polish remover but it doesn't work well :/
Thanks !
Try using isopropyl alcohol or methylated spirit
Can I use that in the edges of neoprene fabric ? Thank you
Sorry - I had a search for information and I couldn't find anything useful! Maybe worth a test??
Bronwyn Carr thank you
you might want to try gum tragacanth. it is a natural tree resin which i would think would be less likely to chemically breakdown neoprene. What project are you working on that uses neoprene? if i may ask.
@@caroldean4417 thank you , I’m doing a swimsuit
That really looks great on the cork, I didn't think of applying there, thank's. Do you rub bees-wax after? :)
Just started working with leather a few months ago. Do you apply beeswax to your leather edges?
Edge Kote and Dura Edge are designed to be a finish. If you apply beeswax on top of or under this product, the color will bleed horribly.
@@TheLeathersmithShop Thanks for the information. I need to give it a try.
@@MakingwithMarilyn No problem. The Dura Edge is a newer product that is supposed to mimic the more expensive edge paints. But you can also try Angelus acrylic paint, Giardini, and Vernis. They are all designed for leather or leather edges. There are several videos of people using all of them here on youtube.
@@MakingwithMarilyn I should probably add that Edge Kote and Dura only come in a few colors. The dye card she shows here is for the dyes, not edge kote. The other products I listed have a wide variety of colors though.
Card say leather DYE. make sure you are talking about the correct product
FieBing’s Edge Kote seems to only come in black and brown based on looking at tandyleather.com website. however, it is not uncommon for edge coatings to come in the same colors as the dyes and thus it would be appropriate to use the dye card for reverence. I might even guess that some edge coats might use the leather dye to color the coating so the edges match the leather which would once again reference dye card.
@@caroldean4417 check ebay, it comes in other colors
Wear gloves. You will dye your hands.
