apparently the small council scene was meant to cut between characters the whole time but the director really loved how olivia was acting alicent’s growing anger and panic and decided to do the full long shot on her and it really paid off. whether you love or hate alicent (im an alicent apologist im sorry) we can all agree olivia cooke is fucking brilliant

It almost read as a quiet panic attack to me. With the sound focusing more on her breathing, the others talking being moved to the background.
I do wonder, do they have multiple cameras facing all the actors at all times then smash the footage together in post or do they refilm the scenes again with the camera facing a different person? Cause if its the first, how was Olivia's long take shot when the actor for the Grand Maester was in the way?

I actually didn't like it. I've grown bored of Alicent's character and I would have much preferred seeing Aemond take control of the council and how different it felt compared to Aegon.

One thing I really appreciate is the attention regarding the accents. The lady who calls Daemon “interloper” sounds a lot like Michelle Fairley, who played Catelyn. Cregen Stark sounds a lot like Ned and Jon. You can hear the echoes of the characters who are to come later in the timeline.
The Bridgerton and balloon reference KILLED me 🤣💀

There is a logic to what he is doing, one that makes sense in a way. They are proving the power of their cause by saying "look how epic your King is, he killed a freaking dragon!". And Dragons killing Dragons is not news (nor is it the first dragon who has been killed in war)
Also I am not sure Rhaenys is beloved. She was by her family, and probably Driftmark, but we see no evidence of that in King's Landing in general.
Oh the show has this backfire, and we can see why, but lets not forget the reaction of the crowd was a choice by the author/showrunners. They could have justified a different reaction if they wanted.
Or in other words, he rolled the dice on hoping it would be a PR coup to show they are both strong and winning. It backfired but it was a reasonable gamble.
Maybe he was thinking they would have no love in their hearts for the "beloved princess" and her dragon who killed and injured their loved ones. Maybe he was thinking that it wouldn't be shocking for a god to kill another god and a dead god doesn't mean a human can take down a god. . .
It wouldn't take a genius to realize what Cole was thinking.

Anybody else think the Jacaerys actor would make a good Tim Drake? Given that the DCU is debuting batman in the same movie as Damien, Nightwing is gonna be fully grown (late twenties, maybe like 30-32), and Tim needs to be (believably at least) somewhere like 17-21. Not sure of they would also already have Jason Todd preestablished or intorduce him later but he would be mid twenties most lilely. This dude has the look of someone who is believably still in high school, but maybe towsrds the tail end, and the jump from sword weilding negotiator to staff weilding detective shouldnt be too hard.

Aegon’s armor was Aegon the Conqueror’s Valyrian Steel armor which adds some protection against dragon fire. It won’t save him from injury but it did protect him enough that he didn’t die

seen some people be all 'haha karma's a bitch alicent now you get to learn about patriarchy for the first time' like she wasn't born into this system of misogyny. both she and rhaenyra are trying to wrest control from their misogynistic councils its like the whole theme of the show and alicent is very familiar with it lol. alicent is powerless and rhaenyra feels as though she can't act or fight and wishes to ride syrax into battle but can't. they're both being refused what they want and if they still had the other by their side they would have someone, anyone, to advocate for them. they miss that. ever since losing their friendship neither of them have had any real advocates or friends since.
We had rhaenys on rhaeneyra's council and otto on alicents but now theyre gone 😢
The best way I can come up with to describe this kind of episode, is that it’s like watching a professional kitchen, where tons of ingredients have to come together to make a bunch of different amazing looking dishes, but despite the perceived chaos at the beginning of cutting and Different things going into pots and pans, eventually, you can start to see the dishes coming together. This episode is like that moment where you can finally tell what a dish is going to be. It’s like watching one of those fancy Robin bowls get assembled. You watch each of the ingredients get cooked separately, but you can’t really tell exactly what kind of Ramen bowl it’s going to be until the bowl is out. The broth is out. The noodles are out all the veggies are out the eggs are out. The meat is out, and you could see how they’re going to fit together even if they haven’t fit together yet

I think Damon's and Viserys' bastard brother is (1). The Smithy with the sick daughter could be (2) look at his hair, Corlys' bastard son Adam (Lenore's dragon intrigued him on the beach while he was searching for crabs), and Seasmoke needs a new rider so he would be (3). This way his Brother Alyn can be the heir of Driftmark because he has always been on the ships - Alyn is Salt and Sea. He saved Corlys from drowning. Not to mention anyone else who could be around. I think they just need to have Valeryion blood to ride a dragon.

You know, I could swear we saw Damon have a similar Freudian dream last season, but the way they did this seasons version, it feels like they left that open ended as to whether or not it was a dream or a nightmare for him. Because last season, I remember him waking up at a cold sweat after one of those dreams.

A quick note about things happening in the book versus what's happening in the show; the book is based on one person's view of what happened during the war; it is not an actual account of what did occur. So, the writers and directors have some lead to changing things up a bit with the show.
It may be my HOTD bias, but I think that Ewan Mitchell would be a good casting for Sephiroth in a live action role.

An interesting note is that Daemon's mother died when he was only three. He doesn't even remember what she looks like. In the books, she has dirty blonde hair and a crooked nose. The "mother" in his dreams is entirely his projection of her.

Parading Meleys head around Kings Landing certain was a bad moove on Coles part. Dragons are seen as gods, the fact that the Targaryens are seen as above gods so them comanding dragons is like them comanding gods. Not to mention that it shows them that dragons can be killed, which is....Yeah definetly wont be relevent in the future.
And yeah Aegon just like in the show doesnt die from this battle but he gets injured as fucked, and has a long way to recover. Love Alicent slowly piecing toogether that Aemond is the reason Aegon is in his condition.
