  • Can an artist fall off if he never truly took off?? That’s a question of the ages and the rap duo we are discussing today should give you; if not an answer to that question; then at least a better understanding of the concept. Camp Lo is a rap duo composed of Geechi Suede and Sonny Cheeba; most well known for their debut album hits Luchini AKA This Is It and Coolie High.

Camp needed a major label that would have pushed them very very strong. A major label would not allow them to leave for five years camp lo would have been a real good act for Elektra records for numerous reason. Only if we could have got an outkast and Camp lo track or Camp and red and Method Man track. Camp lo flow and style would allow them to do tracks with 8Ball and MJG to be honest there limits was not push in the prime of their career.

I've been a fan since almost the beginning, and over the years I have discovered a couple things about Camp Lo. They either don't know how or don't have any desire to be "successful". There is one part of me that thinks they very much enjoy being underground, because they themselves are huge fans of true Hip-hop. It seems to me that they make music more for themselves than for the public. Now on the other hand sometimes I think they just don't know how to market themselves. They could very easily build up a cult following again and release limited edition vinyl and cassettes as well as some well designed merch on a site like Bandcamp. I guarantee they would make money. But that would require them to commit to releasing music on a semi regular basis. But they just haven't been in that mode for the last few years. I keep holding out hope that they will come together again and really work hard on a new album. I miss that heist music.

They was on a record label Loud/Simulated around 2001. The label dropped a compilation album which featured 2 songs from Camp Lo. On the same label they dropped a single Trouble Man on the A side and Cookers on the B side
You forgot Suede had a project with a producer called Apple juice kid. Under the name FreeBass 808.

I was a model/actor back in NY when my agent called with two bookings- one was for a music video and the other a shoot for Vogue magazine. I had just shot a video for Mic Geronimo and my agent never told me who the artist was so I chose the Vogue shoot. I was soooo pissed when I later learned the video was for Camp Lo's Luchini. It's still one of my favorite songs and video but that's one of my biggest regrets.

5:23 In 2010 Ski Beatz said to Complex about the song Feelin' It "That was my song! It was a song I was working on for my album at the time. It was me and Suede from Camp Lo rapping on it. I was happy about the song so I ran up in Dame’s house and Jay was there. I played it for them and they got the mad frown face, bopping they head, like, 'This is dope!' Then Jay was like, 'You know you gotta give me that song right?' I was like, 'What do you mean? I just did this song!' He was like, 'Come on B, I need that for my album. You know we’re working on this album. Give me that beat, I want that hook too.' He took the beat, the hook, and the flow too! Which was cool, it wasn’t like he didn't ask me for it. He didn’t jack it. He told me he was going to do it. The thing with Mecca [was] she sung the hook. She got paid for singing, obviously. But I wrote the hook for the song. I guess the people that she was dealing with got in her ear and made her think she wrote the song and that she deserved all the publishing and that burned the bridge for what we was doing. They definitely wanted to work with her but it never got that far."

When I first heard Camp Lo in the 1990s, the first thing I thought was OutKast+Souls of Myscheif+with a swagger flow.
Camp Lo should had solid backing from their record labels and in some cases, a slightly better record producer. I could have definitely see Camp Lo & Jermaine Dupri doing some music together.
