I completely agree with those who praise those two young actors. What will always surprise me is that neither Robby nor Glynnis became Hollywood elite but perhaps they were both just too smart for that.
I think I finally figured out what I saw Glynnis and Robbie in way back in the early 80s late one night on the CBS Cable channel. I never knew but always wondered because I stumbled on this scene and was surprised to see them. At first I thought it was a stage version of Ode To Billy Joe, but it was this. Now I know
Thanks for this post, for me this is the definitive version of our town. I saw it in class at age 7 Hal Holbrook (sp?) is the definitive narrator for me. I think there are some profound insights about life that other than in Eastern philosophies are not as expressed as profoundly. Some might point to be here now but Thornton Wilder got it earlier and without all the extraneous hippy dippy excess that hangs around "Be here now. " my favorite line in play is between the Robby Benson Character and the Narrator. Robby asks the narrator who stands in for a semi omniscient perspective, Does anybody see the beauty and the miracle of life. How amazing it is? And the narrator says, oh I dunno, not really poets and authors might some of the time I guess. That hit me even at age seven. I remember getting chills at the intrinsic truth of how much drama is happening around us at every moment if we simply choose to notice it. I have to find a viewable digital version of this rendition of "Our town" I find it sad that it is rarely taught anymore.
Glynnis O'Connor, I seen" Ode to Billy Jo" & "The boy in the plastic bubble" & I fell in love with you. I am going to watch "JEREMY" next and work my way thru your movies.
WOW! She's so incredibly warm to him in JEREMY, but is ready to set his #SS on fire, in this scene of OUR TOWN. What a difference 4 short years can make. (ha!) BCRadio
Thanks for posting this kneat video Pkreutzer! I so wish I could see the whole play. This is one of my favorite bittersweet american play. Beside I love Robby Benson alot. =)~
Love this play. To the critics of Robby Benson, l disagree. Yes, Glynnis O'Connor shines in this scene but there several where Robby as George does as well. For example, on the mornig of the wedding, the scene with his Mother in the church and even during the funeral scene. Beautiful & sad. I can't wait to buy it on dvd with the 1989 version.
Glynnis O'Connor and Robby Benson did about 3 movies together. They had such great chemistry.
Glynnis is such a beauty and great actress, ultimate 70’s crush ❤️

I had such a mad crush on Robby Benson back in those days. His sweet face, and that voice!
This was EXCELLENT!! I saw it in the early '80's on tv. Always been a HUGE fan of Glynnis.
