Horrible acting
Thank you for posting this. After reading/listening to these industry greats for years it is nice to see them in real time action.
GREAT ACTING!! THEY WORKED GREAT TOGETHER!!
Spalding Gray was a HORRIBLE choice for the role of Stage Manager/Mr. Morgan/Chorus in "OUR TOWN". A GOOD choice brings a warm, knowing, Humanistic 'Identification' with the Humanity in the residents of Grover's Corners - and their ancestor-relatives (who died defending the Union, despite never seeing more than 50 miles of it). In stark contrast, Gray exudes a Reptilian DETACHMENT -- like a bored Demi-god who Resents having to watch a Superior's 'ant farm'.
WOW! She's so incredibly warm to him in JEREMY, but is ready to set his #SS on fire, in this scene of OUR TOWN. What a difference 4 short years can make. (ha!) BCRadio
He was a victim of cancel culture. So sad what the woke army will resort to.

I’m glad China kicked out the reporter spies.
I had such a mad crush on Robby Benson back in those days. His sweet face, and that voice!

His voice and eyes!!!! Ahhhhhh!!!!! ❤️
Glynnis O'Connor, I seen" Ode to Billy Jo" & "The boy in the plastic bubble" & I fell in love with you. I am going to watch "JEREMY" next and work my way thru your movies.
I remember when this was shown on TV back in the seventies, it was brilliant.
I’ve only ever seen Spalding behind a desk, so thanks very much for this. He was unique.
Spalding Grey. 🙏
So sadly missed. I watch this with a heavy heart but so grateful for his amazing career and life.
Robby Benson is a great actor.
Why there is no data post 2017? Did the economy really do well under Trump? Just curious!!
I was in a production in Austin Texas in the mid 90’s. I played Joe Crowel the paper boy. So much fun. Spalding is amazing.
Crowell*
fascinating talk. Great to hear what ASIO spies get up to. Mainly simple intelligence gathering.
RIP Hal Holbrook
Thank you for posting this! This was my first introduction to our town back in the 70s. We taped it on our Betamax. And I watched it over and over again. Hal Holbrook, rest in peace.
RIP, Hal Holbrook.

I remember seeing this on TV, and loved it.
Glynnis is such a beauty and great actress, ultimate 70’s crush ❤️
Outstanding bit on stock buybacks from 18:00 to 21:00 or so!
How long ago was this presentation?
I think this was 2017.
I’m not a big fan of this play, but this was a great production.
Great interview. Good to hear from Lynne about her experience and the events discussed in the book.
If you'd seen the play live at Theater Four you would have behold a true Prince. Time can steal much but not the actor to the manor born within. Only the heart matters...

GLYNNIS Flat making
Mr. Langella towers above the rest of the cast. He is tall.
Thanks, Mr. Gray. You are missed.
Whilst this is a good performance by Spaulding Gray, the best Stage Manager I have seen is the guy who plays the role in Tom Gorman’s production.
The kid was remarkably good for someone so young.
Superb!
"Nice town...knowwhaddimean?" Thanks, Spalding.
I had this on VHS, until the player 'ate' it. Love this play.
Paul Newman's 2003 take on the narrator seemed to fit the sentiment of the play better. Gray just seems to be waving his arms with little dramatic flourishes...like he doesn't really care, or believe, or even picture the town he's describing. Know what I mean...?
We fully agree.
I think that’s the idea. Even his interpretation has to be one of indifference and complacency. He takes you on that journey but even he knows it’s going to be sad and depressing.
Adoro essa atriz ela é linda.
@Michael T. Mooney: It was Frank Rich's review in the New York Times - and you can read the review online!
This was EXCELLENT!! I saw it in the early '80's on tv. Always been a HUGE fan of Glynnis.
I think I finally figured out what I saw Glynnis and Robbie in way back in the early 80s late one night on the CBS Cable channel. I never knew but always wondered because I stumbled on this scene and was surprised to see them. At first I thought it was a stage version of Ode To Billy Joe, but it was this. Now I know
Hi, where can I watch the whole film? I need it for class. Thanks!
I completely agree with those who praise those two young actors. What will always surprise me is that neither Robby nor Glynnis became Hollywood elite but perhaps they were both just too smart for that.
Thanks for this post, for me this is the definitive version of our town. I saw it in class at age 7 Hal Holbrook (sp?) is the definitive narrator for me. I think there are some profound insights about life that other than in Eastern philosophies are not as expressed as profoundly. Some might point to be here now but Thornton Wilder got it earlier and without all the extraneous hippy dippy excess that hangs around "Be here now. " my favorite line in play is between the Robby Benson Character and the Narrator. Robby asks the narrator who stands in for a semi omniscient perspective, Does anybody see the beauty and the miracle of life. How amazing it is? And the narrator says, oh I dunno, not really poets and authors might some of the time I guess. That hit me even at age seven. I remember getting chills at the intrinsic truth of how much drama is happening around us at every moment if we simply choose to notice it. I have to find a viewable digital version of this rendition of "Our town" I find it sad that it is rarely taught anymore.
Love this play. To the critics of Robby Benson, l disagree. Yes, Glynnis O'Connor shines in this scene but there several where Robby as George does as well. For example, on the mornig of the wedding, the scene with his Mother in the church and even during the funeral scene. Beautiful & sad. I can't wait to buy it on dvd with the 1989 version.
George and Emily's story in the 1977 version is made more realistic because Robby Benson & Glyniss O'Connor were dating at the time & had done two films together. Great chemistry
This version was my introduction to the play. I remember seeing it when it originally aired. It is a beautiful and touching play and there are many things that can be learned from it. I love the 1977 version and the cast. I also find the scenes with George & Emily to be especially moving. Especially when they reveal their feelings for each other. And Emily's bittersweet speech at the end. Beautiful
How Glynnis can cry on cue is amazing.
She’s So Beautiful and Convincing
Glynnis O'Connor and Robby Benson did about 3 movies together. They had such great chemistry.
