" and the devil showing up in a white suit in the way that Gabriel wears white as a former angel but Gabrial was kind of dirty wear as the devil was a pristine clean. showing that he's still pure...but pure evil

There was a time when DC had the 'Vertigo' imprint. It was for the most part in the DC Universe, but they rarely really touched. Constantine wasn't as powerful as he is today, but one thing many people learned the hard way. You never challenge John Constantine's bluff. All that tried lost. You never knew when he was bluffing and when he had an ace up his sleeve. No one, not even the devil knew. Mind that his family line had many like him. There was a Joanne Constantine during the French Revolution (as seen in 'Sandman') and we saw him as a trickster archetype close to the end of time (as seen in 'Books of Magic')
And yes, even in the comics he was an a$$hole.
All in all, I'd say this was an ok adaption. While they changed a lot, they made it work within the movie.
BTW. part of the Vertigo imprint was also Neil Gaiman's Sandman, where you get the 'Lucifer' from the show with the same name and the 'Swamp Thing'. Zatanna was rooted in both worlds, while Dr. Fate was firmly in the Superhero side.
P.S. A lot of small parts from the comics made it into the movie. In the comics he had cancer at one time and was dying from it. So he sold his soul to 3 similar powerful Dermon Lords. They didn't want to go to war with each other over him, so they saved his life by putting Demon Blood into him. At a later date he got rid of that as well. To name just one example.

A lot of people don't like this movie because they completely changed the character and how he works and everything but I like this real more Hands-On and natural version of Constantine as much as I love the British s*** talking magic user Constantine. 🤣 Which if y'all ever get the chance you should watch the show. They did the character Justice even though it was only one season. He does show up in the DC show universe and stays with one of the shows for a while. And then of course the the actor voice acts as the character in two DC animated movies justice league dark and justice league dark apocalypse war. It's funny that they tease you so much with the two characters hooking up and then John not going through with it considering the more accurate character's actually a big whore. 🤣

The biggest glaring difference in this Constantine movie is that John Constantine is a blonde, blue-eyed, super snarky, bitter, sarcastic sort of former punk rock British dude from Liverpool.
The movie does well enough swapping him out for Keanu Reeves, but it does make a huge difference to the vibe of the character.
Keanu is a much lower key quieter John Constantine.
That's not to say that John Constantine is innately loud and high key, but he's much more on a Robert Downey Jr Tony Stark level of just giving no shits and happily telling someone to go fuck themselves.
Keanu's version is more subdued, and leans into more inwardly being grumpier and exhausted then he is on projecting that outwards
The real John Constantine is very fed up with heaven and hell's bullshit and just tears them a new one whenever he gets a chance.
Keanu kind of does it too, but he's a lot subtler about it.
Like Keanu will crack little jokes or quietly tell them to go fuck off whereas the real John Constantine is not afraid to just flip them off, laugh in their faces, and tell them to get the fuck out.
I don't really know how to more accurately convey what I mean than to say that John is like a punk rock front man who went into being an occultist / exorcist / wizard / demon hunter.
I guess a good way to put it would be that Keanu's version internalizes the same stuff that John Constantine would externalize.
For an extremely perfect, spot on version of John Constantine, I recommend the TV show Constantine, and subsequently his appearances in the Arrowverse CW shows.
Matt ryan, who plays him in the TV show Constantine, is as perfect a casting for John Constantine as Chris Evans was for Captain America, or Krysten Ritter for Jessica Jones, or Robert Downey Jr for Iron Man, or Patrick Stewart for Professor Xavier, or Jon Hamm for Bruce Wayne, or Andrew Garfield for Peter Parker / Spider-Man.
As much as I like Keanu Reeves' version of John Constantine, Matt Ryan's version IS John Constantine.

tbh i always liked the more noiresque vibe of keanus constantine. never really liked the comics version, but maybe i just never was exposed to the right stories. but i definitely appreacite the more "grounded" universe presented in the movie. i unbderstand one might prefer one to another, but constantine is a fictional character, so i dont really agree with the sentiment of one being more constantine than the other. they are simply two different versions, from that point its subjective wich version you prefer, but the moment theres two interpretations of the character, neither is the true version, regardless of however the character came to be or in what form.

There was a short lived Constantine TV show that was way more accurate starring Matt Ryan, but, of course the "fans" didn't support it...ugh. You can ignore the Legends of Tomorrow stuff with Constantine in it, they used the same actor from the TV series that got cancelled, but it was CW stuff. This movie is one of the rare occasions of a comic book character not truly being represented in a live action movie, but it still did ok regardless. It's just a good movie! *I still remember people bitching about how he's not blond, doesn't have a British accent/not from England...whatever; D.C. deals with the multiverse too. This movie was so incredible to see in the theaters! It was jam packed with superstars! Every person in this movie is of note in some way. Peter Stormare as the Devil is just "divine", and just a little below Viggo Mortensen's Prince of Darkness in The Prophecy (another great portrayal, albeit a brief and chilling one, is Jamie McShane in Immanence). A great performance by everyone (Tilda Swinton as Arch Angel Gabriel, Rachel Weisz as Angela/Isabel, Keanu of course, Pruitt Taylor Vince as the blind priest, Djimon Hounsou, Jose Zuniga, and Shia LeBeauf even), including the naughty Balthazar, played by Gavin Rossdale. Rossdale, once married to Gwen Stefani, is a great musical talent in his own right - headliner of the band Bush. I wish he did more movies - he really showed a nice aptitude for it and is pretty easy on the eyes. hehe He also voiced his part in the Constantine video game. The cinematography and editing are fantastic! The nuclear wasteland version of Hell is very haunting and scary as heck!

I think especially Sin City would be right up your alley and Lucky Number Slevin is dreadfully underrated (can you go wrong with Morgan Freeman, Sir Ben Kingsley, Bruce Willis...?) but now popcorn and Constantine...😇👿

This is one of my favorite movies from all time, I remember that year the industry start to experiment with some comic stories not so popular back then, thanks for this react boys and as others comments say please react to V for Vendetta

*I'm a huge fan of the Hellblazer comics, and unlike most of those fans, I love this Constantine Keanu Reeves movie with all my might. The film will have a sequel after nearly two decades, I hope you're at the theater on opening day, because I will be.*

    The day is upon us.
This is my top fav film.
They should make another, with Keanu and Shia returning as Gabriel.

The first of 6 films to be based on DC's Vertigo imprint.
Released 4 months before Batman Begins.
Francis Lawrence was a first-time film director who was known for music videos.
John Constantine is one of the most interesting and beloved anti-heroes in the supernatural realm.
His early comics were known as HELLBLAZER and his look was based on that of the legendary recording artist known as Sting.
I was shocked that KR had got the role.
    It would've been Nicolas Cage.
But of course he went on to be another supernatural hero, Ghost Rider.
Constantine has interacted with other DC characters.
    Usually Batman and/or Swamp Thing.
His love/hate relationship with Lucifer, comic-wise is as constant as the battle of good and evil itself.
For 6 years between live-action television and animated form, Constantine has been portrayed by one actor named Matt Ryan (cool journey too).
Lucifer had a tv series that ran for 6 seasons (93 episodes) from network to streaming.
Constantine could return to the big screen through the DCEU.
As an solo hero and part of the team called Justice League Dark.

    Underrated movie.
Keanu Reeves was again really good here and we got an amazing Lucifer from Peter Stormare. Even for a small part.
    Tilda Swinton was also good.

The biggest travesty is that we never (& probably will never) get a Keanu/Rachel Constantine sequel or series [of films] like they SHOULD'VE done. This was such a in-depth, unique world with such cool mythos/characters.
Altho...with how movies seem to be going nowadays with adaptations, perhaps it's a good thing we just got this solid stand-alone movie.

The sequel is coming with both original director Francis Lawrence and Keanu Reeves returning.
