  • This is part 1 of 2, in answer to a viewer's question about how to approach Caroline Beste's Round Penning Approach with an independent horse who isn't interested in joining-up. I wish I would have watched this video 6 months ago when I started your round pen approach with my then green broke quarter horse. You are wonderful and I’m very grateful I was turned on to you. My quarter will go on trails and do wonderful, he follows me around the farm like a puppy, is willing to do anything I ask but is not wild about round pen work. He will do it but is reluctant on some occasions as in he does it because he respects me and I’ve asked him to but isn’t excited about it. He would rather be groomed or on a trail than to lunge.

      Hi Ashley and Welcome!
My name is Mia- I am Caroline Rider’s assistant and certified instructor. You can change his perception of the round pen work, whether he is a little unsure or unconfident, or because it is more of attitude about paying attention and what he perceives as just 'working'. The round pen is still time you spend together, just like the trail riding and grooming, but with a respectful balance of having fun, and working together- building rapport.
