Exploring the Best of Maui and Kauai | Maui vs Kauai - which one to visit?

  • While both islands offer some of the most stunning vistas in the world, they are unique in their ways. Being the second largest Hawaiian island, Maui has a diverse landscape of beaches, jungles, and volcanoes while also known for its luxury resorts. Kauai feels much more laid back, featuring stunning landscapes and a break away from the hustle and bustle of the city. I'm very lucky to be able to visit both islands, and hopefully, this video can help you decide where you want to go.
Special thanks to Jane for providing the Kauai GoPro footage from 2018 :)
🤓 Some tips from my experiences
    📍Haleakala National Park
Haleakala National Park entrance fees include visiting the summit district and the Kipahulu district. It's $30.00 per private vehicle and valid for 3 days- you can save some money if you plan your trip to visit both areas within 3 days.
Haleakala Sunrise - Summit reservation: www.recreation.gov/ticket/253...
📍The Waihee Ridge Trail parking lot gets full very quickly, so I would recommend arriving early. We arrived before the park opened.
📍Hāʻena State Park Reservation (to hike the Kalalau Trail): gohaena.com/
We reserved the Parking + Entry Pass ($20.00) right when it was available. Dates open 30 days prior at 12 a.m. Hawaii time. I woke up at 3am to reserve 😂 You also have to choose a timeframe for your visit.
The trail can be extremely slippery and dangerous. We would probably opt out of the hike if the weather was bad. We only hiked to Hanakāpī’ai Beach.
🛏️ Lodging (MOST expensive part of the trip)
Watch out for all the cleaning fees, service fees, taxes... They REALLY add up.

I love your storytelling! Great video! I know lots of research and time goes into writing dialogues for your videos, and I love your videos! I know you wanted me to make a storytelling video of my trip to Vietnam, but I'm realizing the writing part is so much work, so it's still in progress 😅

Thank you Masashi! 🥹 I really do spend a ton of time figuring out the story for my videos. Sometimes too much time 🫠 I actually had another version of the video that I was trying to tell a different kind of story, but really did not work!! Can't wait to see your story for Vietnam! I know you're also already telling them through the photos too :) Maybe you can do multiple parts or divide the story by a theme may help?!

Hey Stephanie, if you had to choose one island for a first time family of four which would you recommend? Airbnb or resort? Great video Stephanie!

Thanks so much!! I would choose Maui! Maui just has a lot of activities you can do: a lot of trails and water activities- really depending on what you guys like to do. I didn't include this in the video but I actually went on a snorkeling tour in Maui with PacWhale Eco-Adventures where you can snorkel at the Molokini Crater. It was supposed to be really cool but we ended up not being able to get off the boat due to high wind... but I'd still recommend it!! Oahu might be the most famous island but I think it feels the most commercialized and crowded. Maui is a good medium :)
In terms of lodging, Airbnbs are not cheap in Hawaii. The prices are pretty much on par with resorts when I went but I prefer having more room, a kitchen (so you don't have to eat out every single meal- can get $$$ and tiring), and usually includes parking. A lot of Airbnbs have pool areas and provide snorkeling equipment, beach towels/chairs... just some extras that are good to have.
Hope this helps!! Let me know if you have any other questions!!
