- William Lance Swan (born May 12, 1942) is an American country singer-songwriter, best known for his 1974 single, "I Can Help".
Swan was born in Cape Girardeau, Missouri, United States. As a child, he learned drums, piano and guitar, and began writing songs. His first big break was in 1962 when Clyde McPhatter recorded "Lover Please", a song written by Swan when he was in a local band called Mirt Mirly & the Rhythm Steppers, who had first recorded the song on Bill Black's Louis label. McPhatter's version quickly became a No. 7 pop hit. - Hudba
I have always loved this song and still do! I am now 71 years old but I am still young in my heart!! Miss the good old days that’s for sure!
I'm 67 next month and I still love it! My husband and I love dancing to it after 46 yrs of marriage. We are still young !😊

I am with you
This was very big on country music radio , back in the day. Only way I can remember it so well. Pure talent.
Haven’t heard this in 20 years. Still knew the words. That’s how good it is.
I am in my late 60's and I know all the words, they say music lyrics stay in the brain for ever.
Ditto, ❤🎉😢😮
Right? One of my favorite from my young adolescent days😎👍
Same here ….Nailed it!
This song is a piece of pure gold.
So's your name!! Lol Right on
@@jamesrazor1668Heard this song on the the radio today. I’d heard it before AGES ago but hearing it today made me think: This is a Beautiful Love Song…awee! 🥺💌🎼
La mejor música,lade los 70.80🎉😂❤
Looks like my husband
This song seemed to own the airwaves in late ‘74.
50 year's old and still sounds brilliant.
A smash hit across the USA at the end of 1974. Love it.
Same here in uk, remember "you ain't seen nothing yet ", by Bachman Turner overdrive being out at the same time.
Reminds me on malbero street in 69
Wonderful song--have not heard it in while... Love it...We sure had good music in the 70's
Agree!
Cant argue with that...
Yes indeed great music, Today we can access any song of our liking, with a phone! One would be deemed insane if they said that in 1974. Dial up a song?
I just woke up 😃 singing the chorus to my man!
@@mekhidouglas454242 love you screen name
This still is a precious gem.
The sound of the organ is nothing but an amazing pure gold.
You are right, the man can play the organ! I wish I could see the rest of the band playing, 'cause that guitar is awesome!
Right, a Hammond B-3 with Leslie speakers...but I can't actually hear the piano he's playing.
@@david9783the guitarist was reggie young. Top Nashville session man.
Gary, thank you. I can clearly hear why he was a top man. That intro and solo are pure gold to my ears. I watched a guy on youtube pick it out note by note but I can't pull it off, 'course i prefer rythym for that reason. merry Christmas from South Carolina!@@garylamb9809
I second that motion 😊
This was a great song when it came out, and it's still a great song now.
A Song about what a "REAL MAN" Should be like, NUFF SAID!!!!
One of the best records of 1974
One of my favorite 1974 songs
Great song just a teenager in the 70,s now 68
This is what we call a good song. Good songs have great meanings 👌
You can tell this song is really old because today's singers don't sing about loving someone and wanting to help with her children 😱😂😂😂 Love this song 🥰 it was from his heart 🥰😘
True!!
What other song back in the day was about helping with children? None. So how can you compare? 🤣😂
❤touches my spirit an I wish it did everyone else's. Might touch even the most hard person. ❤
@@tonisumblin2719People like you always have to post something negative, don't you? Always have to look for the negative in everything. You must not have a very happy life.

Another Great Song from the 70's...really brings me back...!
This song and "Spirit in the Sky" are two songs that make everyone happy.
Love this song! I’m 76 remember the words. Any woman would love this! No diamonds or rubies for this lady! A man who wants to help! That’s all I would need!❤❤❤❤❤
Great song which was first released in 1974 which makes it 50 years old.❤
I remember this! very well
Just love love the organ or keyboard in this song Bravo!
Old Music Is Best .!!!
Back in the 1990s I used to email Billy Swan. I knew a man who knew Billy. He is really a nice guy.
This was one of my mom‘s favorite songs. A legend has it that when he was recording the song in New York City he was in the same studio that John Lennon used and John happened to be about. Heard the song and did a little bit of work with him on the song, I remember my mother telling me that
Born: 1942 (age 81 years), Cape Girardeau, MO

Siiii yo la baile en 5 de primaria me encantaba y me sigue encantando y tengo el disco es un sencillo de plástico
I can't believe I came across this. Brings me back a little. Great song. Too bad people don't make music like this anymore.
if your child needs a daddy great line great classic never gets old 😊
Not many folks think this way anymore,it takes a real man to step forward or real woman to step forward and give of their selves to another person who needs help but wants nothing in return we do it because everyone needs help one time or another.like I always say do the best you can with the time God gives you,you only have so much time people think we have a lot of time but in reality we really don’t!
"If your child needs a daddy I can help" - on the surface some very positive vibes!
So glad I found somebody to help with my kids!😍
@@dianedildine2826 too late, he wanted to be there at the beginning
One of my dad's favorite songs they were the good old days.😊
In today’s world where everything needs to be perfect, you’d never see a piano with scratches on tv.
I remember when this song came out. Love it!!!
Finally Billy Swans music makes a lot of sense NOW! God Bless Billy Swan, and Nashville Music!

I AM A FOREIGNER: I STILL UNDERSTAND EVERY SINGLE WORD OF THIS EASY SONG, FROM THE POINT OF VIEW OF THE LYRICS.
Good job, Luigi !
When I was 12 years old I got my first radio and cassette player. When I turned it on I dialed to WLPL broadcast out of Baltimore. Jerry St. James was the DJ. The first song I heard on that radio was I Can Help. Whenever I hear that song, my memories go back to that moment.
I remember WLPL well! I lived out in Baltimore county and had to put the radio up in the window to get a better signal. Best music!
Good vocals. Great song. Billy nails the song with his personality and interpretation of this tune.
I remember this song back in the 1980s. Been a long time since I heard it. Still sounds good🎶🖐🏼
this was from 1974
I just heard this song just this morning as I was waking up and I was singing right along with it. It was awesome and all.
You're lucky. I keep waking up to "I Got You." Like day after day (Badfinger reference unintentional).
DJ Rockin' Randy sez "Let's go to the roller rink!"
Love this song!❤❤❤❤❤❤
I haven’t heard this song in years and years. Glad to rediscover this awesome song.
Me too. Takes me back to the 70s
Listening to this you can tell he was a fan of the great music of the 50s and 60s
Great job with a great song!!
This was the first rock and roll song I ever remember liking and I was only 4 years old when it came out. So simple, a 4 year old could understand it!
FANTASTIC SONG, BURIED IN MY LATENT MEMORY.
This is a beautiful song people today don't even seem like this no more they don't talk about real feelings about other people in relationships when it comes down the road from somebody to open their heart you all you have to do is say let me help I think it's a wonderful song and it came out of the perfect time in the 80s
I remember this song like it was yesterday.😊 2:27
This is one of my favorite songs of all time! OMGoodness! Thanks Billy Swan 😊😎
I'll always remember it as the finest background music for roller skating that I've ever heard.
Can you hear the organ music giving us that?
Standing on a ladder yesterday at work. This was a song in my head and thought to myself man. That's deep. If your child needs a daddy, remember it from my childhood brings a smile to my eyes
One of my all time favorites
The intro to this has the same effect on my face as 'Come up and see me make me smile' I DO smile. Two lovely tracks from my High School days ❤❤❤
You tube vient de me proposer ce titre que j'avais oublié, mais je n'ai pas pu m'empécher de cliquer sur la vidéo tellement cela me rapelle mon adolescence.
awesome job Billy, loved it from the very first time i heard it !
Thank you BILLY SWAN FOR YOUR SONG 🎵 ❤️ 🙏 💕 🐦 🐦⬛ 🦜 🦚 🪶 🦢
I love, love this song from Billy’s vocals to the organ and other backups to the “message” of this…😊❤Love❤
Thanks for posting.
I used to be good friends with Billy Swan's wife, we enjoyed lunches together, and we shared recipes... and still using her stuffed yellow squash, it's yummy! That's probably because we both had vegetable gardens! My garden was 20' x 40'! Those were my good ole days living in Nashville "Green Hills" prestigious area!
i love this song so much because what the song is about is so beautiful people in all walks of life help e.g. in everyday life and has nothing to do with money but charity e.g. help people with shopping help with carrying everything that makes charity
First time hearing this song here, kinda neat and catchy ,me likes.
Still a favorite of mine after all these years...I used to live in Nashville, was part of the Music Row Crowd working with United Artists Records in A&R in the Penthouse
I love everything about this song❤❤
In 1974 at age 11, I bought the single at a maw and paw record store. This was after church on Sunday, with money I had earned cutting lawns.
The things you had to work for are the things you treasure the most
Love this song❤

When the TV movie The Return of the Rebels was on in 1981 and Isaw the scene with Barbara Eden sitting behind Don Murray on his motorcycle. I immediately thought of this song. 😊
