According to Elvis's friends, EP was pi$$ed, and JR was banned from his home, but he calmed down and said "if he needs the hit that much let him have it" EP's guitar player JB said Elvis still respected JR and they spoke again later in the 70s. Elvis only released alternative versions on albums. However, he can be heard singing it live with what might have been his original arrangement(similar to what JR released)

So let me think about this now. Guy was on every T.V. show many, many times including Ed Sullivan, American Bandstand, Shin-dig, Hullaballoo, Where the Action is and maybe even the Judy Garland Show. While RCA was sitting on it, waiting to release, Johnny visited Elvis, heard the pressed demo by Elvis and recorded his own version using Elvis' arrangement as a guide. It was released before Elvis' and went on to #2 on the charts. After that, Johnny was on Elvis' shit list.
I like this Chuck Berry classic by Johnny. His better stuff came later but blending Lonny Mack's guitar style with Chuck's lyrics was what made this song. And yes ,he deserves to be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Never heard of those dancers. I was way to young for clubs and too old for discos ( on my 20s)..Stopped taking alcohol and other drugs and stopped going to clubs. However as 13/14 year old I worked cleanup duty for Led Zeppelin, Who ( same concert), Who again, Doors, Willie Nelson, Jethro Tull, Ten Years after, Santana ( twice) but only saw Hendrix at Woodstock ( terrible acoustics) and missed Cream entirely. Years later Carlos again ACDC Blue Oysters Bruce Springsteen, Dr John, different version of Jefferson Airplane had tickets to Stones twice ( had 12 tickets for Capital Center show...always sold my Stones to kets to rich college girls) Though Hendrix and Carlos were my favs, Springsteen put on Best show. Very best all around Gato Barbieri ( RIP) Though he could not speak English, my Latin wife and him talked for half hour. I would have let Gato fuck her...but I doubt he had the energy after his first show at Blues Alley.

Love Johnny Rivers. His music has such a great feel. It's at home in a club or a concert venue, but also at the local VFW or a backyard barbeque. And his ballads are wonderful.
Man, this guy is great! Brings back sooo many memries of my youth. He plays guitar (for real). He plays his own solos (for real). And follows the camera cues to a tee. Put him in the HoF, damnit!!

A friend and I saw Johnny Rivers in concert at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, back in 1972 or 1973. There were 2 microphone stands with 2 mics on each one, one low and one high, one stand was was back behind the other. Johnny and a young man came out, I never knew who he was. They gave the most wonderful, outstanding concert I have ever been to. It is one of my favorite memories.
This was recorded on my Dad's 18th birthday. How wild. Also, my Mother was there the night the Whiskey A-Go-Go opened up where she saw, and met Johnny Rivers. Very cool video, and i'm quite glad it's still around.
About '75, me & my buddy snuck thru a back door, at the theater, in Knotts Berry Farm. Introduced ourselves to him & he shook our hands & gave us a moment. Pretty cool for a couple of teenagers

This song reminds me of my mom, she used watch American Bandstand every Saturday. I was age 7 so, she was age 28. We lived in Seattle, wa. He was so upbeat in his music and such a positive attitude.
I had the honor of driving mr. Rivers, in my taxi in north shore Lake Tahoe. What great and friendly man. Offered me to come back and play guitar. I balked. He opened hot august nights in Reno that week.
Just to think that this man with his style of music was performing at the same venue as the Doors were at the same time in history is rather mind boggling.
When I was 5 years old back in 1978,my parents split and every time this song Came on the radio i would think about my dad .my mom had full custody of me and no visitation.id cry every time I heard it and Still do

Well, maybe they're aware that this is Black music, stolen and repackaged with a white guy. Did you see any Blacks in the audience? Do you also realize that for the most part, Black people weren't allowed on television in those days... PS I didn't give a thumbs up or down and I know the history of the USA, maybe you get a bit more education. Just saying.
Rivers single handedly brought disco-tech to the masses and this was way before disco. His string of hits in the early sixties were played in dance clubs all over the U.S. and the world. A very important rocker of immense talent.

Johnny had a commercial fishing boat docked in Brookings, OR in the '80's. I used to see him walking the docks to his boat. He was such a popular singer. His songs were on the radio constantly.

The pathetic so called Hall of Fame is a disgrace. Half the icons are left out like Tommy Bolin a Guitarist who should have been in the hall of Fame years ago, and he was shoved under the rug, and the list goes on and on.

He was the artist that made the ”Whiskey a go go” the most famous music club in the whole world! And that is enough to introduce hon into the Hall of Fame. But now there is just prestige from those who decide. I listen to Johnny from time to time, will do that for the rest of my life, because you can close your eyes, and you do know, right on the spot, that you hear Johnny singing! And he is also a super guitar player ( it looks sooo easy, when he plays the guitar). Go Johnny go!

Never heard of those dancers. I was way to young for clubs and too old for discos ( on my 20s)..Stopped taking alcohol and other drugs and stopped going to clubs. However as 13/14 year old I worked cleanup duty for Led Zeppelin, Who ( same concert), Who again, Doors, Willie Nelson, Jethro Tull, Ten Years after, Santana ( twice) but only saw Hendrix at Woodstock ( terrible acoustics) and missed Cream entirely. Years later Carlos again ACDC Blue Oysters Bruce Springsteen, Dr John, different version of Jefferson Airplane had tickets to Stones twice ( had 12 tickets for Capital Center show...always sold my Stones to kets to rich college girls)
Though Hendrix and Carlos were my favs, Springsteen put on Best show.

A friend and I saw Johnny Rivers in concert at Baylor University in Waco, Texas, back in 1972 or 1973. There were 2 microphone stands with 2 mics on each one, one low and one high, one stand was was back behind the other. Johnny and a young man came out, I never knew who he was. They gave the most wonderful, outstanding concert I have ever been to. It is one of my favorite memories.
This was recorded on my Dad's 18th birthday. How wild.
Also, my Mother was there the night the Whiskey A-Go-Go opened up where she saw, and met Johnny Rivers. Very cool video, and i'm quite glad it's still around.
About '75, me & my buddy snuck thru a back door, at the theater, in Knotts Berry Farm.
Introduced ourselves to him & he shook our hands & gave us a moment. Pretty cool for a couple of teenagers

This song reminds me of my mom, she used watch American Bandstand every Saturday. I was age 7 so, she was age 28. We lived in Seattle, wa. He was so upbeat in his music and such a positive attitude.

I had the honor of driving mr. Rivers, in my taxi in north shore Lake Tahoe. What great and friendly man. Offered me to come back and play guitar. I balked. He opened hot august nights in Reno that week.
Fell in love with him and his music in the sixties. Saw him whenever he came to Phoenix. He is still my man!
Just to think that this man with his style of music was performing at the same venue as the Doors were at the same time in history is rather mind boggling.
This song took me back 50 years back. My elder had a turntable and we were listening again and again daily. Thank you johnny.

Johnny had a commercial fishing boat docked in Brookings, OR in the '80's. I used to see him walking the docks to his boat. He was such a popular singer. His songs were on the radio constantly.
