    With the reduced cooldown it definitely feels like they’re different now, the gatling sentry is like an area clearer on bugs, while the mg sentry is now almost like a seaf soldier strategem who you can call down more often to get attention off of you

    Personally, I prefer the MG turret. It wastes less ammo and so it can kill far more bugs than the Gattling. The GT roughly can kill 20 enemies, and it is out of ammo, while the MGT can kill 35-40 enemies.

      @@chrisbernecker the gatling can kill way more than the MG they just have to be tightly packed. If you are overrun and there is a fresh breach throw it somewhere with good line of sight of that breach. My record with the gatling is 55 kills, and that was throwing it right into a breach. It's a great oh shit button as long as you can keep chargers off of it.
      I agree though the MG will get way more kills in a lot of situations when the enemies are spread out like light patrols, Hunter packs, and shriekers. I have been running both for bugs for a while now and it has been really awesome.

    if they doubled the ammo capacity of the NG Sentry, i would be happy. that would put it at 2/3 the capacity of the gatling sentry, and with 2/3 the cooldown, they would become "balanced" even though they perform different roles

    I play almost exclusively bots. Using MG Sentry as a flanker is probably my go-to method for it since it shuts down the Heavy Devastator's shield shenanigans. They either have to keep pushing me and get shot in the side / back, or turn on the sentry and get shot in the side / back. It's also a nice response to Berserkers.

    With the new updates to the machine gun sentry, I've had a lot of success running it with AMR, Jump Pack, and Airstrike, even on Helldive. I use the machine gun sentry essentially to "Cover my own ass" when in a high ground firing position. The cooldown update giving it superb uptime means I pretty much always have one available, even whenever I need to shoot and scoot to a new position.

  • @Jumbuck1151
    @Jumbuck1151 Před 16 dny +1

    Gatling shreds mediums like brood commanders and bile spewers a lot faster than MG, but MG is more efficient. Against bots, the key is to position the turrets in a flanking position, even the MG turret can chew through quite a few devastators this way. The biggest problem with sentry against bots is they focus on fabricators and waste all of their ammo

  • @jolrath2680
    @jolrath2680 Před 19 dny +7

    Even before it was patched, MG sentry was better against wandering patrols and static spawn enemies, and gatling better vs breaches and dense groups. The MG doesn't waste ammo between enemies like the gatling does. MG also makes a better "battle buddy" like you said easier to work around, but really you will almost never get gibbed by the MG unless you have no situational awareness at all. It doesn't keep firing between enemies, its just firing because theres another enemy directly behind you. On patrols the MG sentry will consistently get 20-30 kills, on a heavy dense pack/breach with good placement the gatling can get 40+. If you throw the gatling at a light patrol, it will get less kills than the MG by the time it burns all of it's ammo. With the lower cooldown, the MG is my go to for running in between points- it will clear light patrols on its own if you dont want trouble but a patrol is right in your path. It's also great to throw behind you when disengaging.
    On bugs I will run both if there is plenty of anti-heavy already in the group. I used to run various Eagles or orbitals for chaff clear, but I get way more kills with these two turrets, and as much as the gatling will absolutely team kill, it's way less likely to do so than most your big airstrike and orbital chaff clears.

    • @Wallbouncing
      @Wallbouncing  Před 19 dny +3

      Thanks for sharing your insight and breakdown for the MG. Almost all of my deaths were from the gatling and the MG was only when I was getting a close look at it to analyze it. Appreciate you checking out the video!

    • @ExtraTrstl
      @ExtraTrstl Před 19 dny +1

      The gatling "wastes" a small amount of ammo but drops with 3x the amount. You get way more total damage with the gatling regardless of how many bullets it "wastes" (which is very little). Gatling is also better at keeping itself alive because it kills over twice as fast. You'll note that 3x the ammo and 2.5x the fire speed means you actually get more potential "uptime" with the gatling sentry as well (about 5 seconds worth though this will fluctuate with the circumstance). MG has lower cooldown and doesn't TK, but in exchange you give up every other benefit.
      I've seen the notion that "MG is better against patrols" elsewhere but I'm curious why people are saying that. Its TTK is 40% slower. This means that if you're trying to use it on patrols it's way less likely to take things out that will call in reinforcements. The Gatling seems better any in any scenario where you want to kill things, patrol or otherwise.

    • @jolrath2680
      @jolrath2680 Před 19 dny +1

      @@ExtraTrstl Incorrect.
      The gatling wastes like 15 bullets per kill shooting at nothing in between enemies that are spread apart. The smaller bugs all take 1-2 bullets, so it would need five times the ammo it has to compete with the MG in this situation.
      On paper the gatling sounds way better but in practice they both have always had their place. Gatling will quickly run out of ammo and sometimes get as few as 10-15 kills on wandering patrols and static enemies(the ones that are spawned into objectives at the beginning). The gatling is king of crowd clear and bug breaches, but the MG will prevent bug breaches from happening 9 times out of 10 if used correctly.
      Also obviously matters what kind of bugs you have. Shriekers that never group up, Hunters that like to spread out and flank are better dealt with by the MG, while bile spewers and other "thick" chaff are better dealt with by the gatling.
      Like I said I regularly run both at the same time and there are tons of situations where the MG is flat out better even if the cool downs were the same. The lower cool down just makes the MG better at what it was already better at: Flexibility in keeping control of a situation that was already under control. The gatling shines when things have already started to go south.

      @@jolrath2680:
      It's not untrue. It may FEEL true but that's only because the MG kills less, slower. So it seems like it "lasts longer".
      The Gatling would need to waste 15 seconds of CONTINUOUS firing (it fires 26/sec) to simply end up with the same amount of ammo as the MG drops with. Back of the envelope it would need to swing 180 degrees, hitting nothing in-between, something like 13 times to waste that much ammo. Theoretically possible I suppose but functionally never going to happen. Basically if the Gatling is hitting *anything* you're doing better than if you had the MG.
      Even using your "wastes 15 ammo per kill" (which I assume is a supposition but let's use it), you have to achieve over 26 kills to, again, even come to *parity* with the ammo difference between it and the MG.
      TL;DR (upgraded) Gatling has 585 ammo, MG has 195. That difference offsets any ammo waste you will ever reasonably encounter. It's OK to like the MG, I like it too!, but it is literally worse in essentially every category outside cooldown and TK potential.

      I don't know about the not wasting ammo thing. It certainly used to not fire while switching targets, but ever since the update that reduced it's cool down I've noticed mine spraying just like the Gatling does. It's quite annoying as I rather liked having a sentry that wouldn't sweep me with a rain of bullets when it switches targets.

    I like running the MGS as something to draw fire with, and a fast response to ANYTHING especially lighter patrols,
    The Gatling now is a great but slower option but great nest clear, but most importantly both are great horde clear, combined with a rocket/auto cannon behind them and they will draw fire of heavy’s, this is especially important against chargers that will bumrush your sentries, having a MGS get charged while your heavy sentry bombards it is a lifesaver. Or something, anyways rant over.

  • @everfreesnarrations35

    I think they need to buff the machine gun sentry with double or triple the ammo.
    The biggest difference between the two should be burst damage for the Gatling Sentry, and consistent sustain damage from the regular sentry.
    This would give both turrets a large difference, and a good place to stand in .
    The machine gun century would be a lower cooldown, with a long uptime, able to support you in killing little guys and some medium guys with its machine gun, but at a much reduced pace in comparison to the Gatling Sentry.
    But it would give the Gatling Sentry breathing room to be a burst damage Sentry, something to throw out and run away while it devastates a huge horde of enemies by itself.

    MG Sentry is fun to use, and I like to take it. It has a lower cooldown and less TK potential and is a cheeky little decoy to throw.
    But functionally, those are its only benefits and it's outclassed by the gatling in literally every other way. Total uptime, total damage, ability to keep itself alive, etc. And while it "wastes" ammo it drops with 3x the amount so functionally it will always have (way) more than the MG. Outside some very niche cases, Gatling is strictly better.
    MG call in should be 60 seconds flat IMO. It's an aggro sink, a decoy. Let it be used as one! It'd even make it viable on bots with a 60 second cooldown!
    P.S.: with that lower cooldown you can use the hellpod your sentry drops in with to kill fabricators!

  • @Urrelles

    Machine gun best when engaging groups. Drop it before you engage a nest or patrol. Great to place at an objective as defense while you work.
    Gatling best when already surrounded and fighting multiple patrols. It's a battlefield clearer. Gatling is more for players who can punch in stratagem codes quickly and drop it in the thick of the action.

    Give the machine gun sentry higher penetration and/or more damage per shot, making it a more medium focused sentry while the gattling clears the chaff enemies.

    with automatons you often want to bring single target dps or heavy stun weapons do deal with everything devastator or above often leaving you without good crowd clear, and you need to keep in mind that unlike your example you will usually work together with your sentry, so heavy devastators shouldn't roll your sentries instead allowing you to focus devastators alone without worrying about small bots and berserkers! thats also why I find the MG sentry to be the best choice on the west front because all the sentry needs to do is remove the small obstacles and it does it WELL
    i hope this is easy to read lol, I just thought I'd share my love for the sentries
    also for bugs this is the same reason why I don't find them very useful, because for bugs you already want to prioritize crowd clear above single target DPS. so heavy hitting sentries will usually do better at covering your weaknesses not machine guns, because those only target one enemy at a time which isn't most effective against giant swarms of significantly tankier targets than bots

      They both have medium armor penetration. These two sentries, the machine gun support weapon and the machine gun for the Patriot exosuit use the same ammo type. So all are medium armor penetration. Hope this helps and thanks for checking out the video!

    People deploying sentries are the only thing that kills me in Helldivers consistently. Doesnt matter how good I get sooner or later you are deep in battle when some idiot puts one down for kill count despite you being unable to get out of the way. Doesn’t matter that you know where they are placed if bugs spawn between you and a sentry you are good as dead if the sentry sees the bugs before you do. Of if you are battling for your life against the spawn just to be mowed down by a sentry. Worst part of the game right now. Next annoying thing in the guard dog rover. Another team killer if you are clinging to life looking for a stem. It’s satisfying seeing the sentry kill the person who deployed it. It’s the only justice I get out of it.

      I shoot allied sentries all the time. Mostly mortar on the wrong mission type. They pull agro, break stealth, and often get you into a war of attrition, which on Difficulty 9 is a mistake. All it takes is one basic enemy to close the distance (which is even easier now with the rubber band ai stealth change) and suddenly you're ragdolling out of position or just flat out dead. They quickly become a stage hazard in an already chaotic game and I don't feel bad for playing with stage hazards off. If I'm feeling nice, I'll just run off on my own and solo while the rest of the pack bleeds tickets to the mortard.

    • @Wallbouncing
      @Wallbouncing  Před 19 dny +1

      I feel that it would be nicer that given the slower fire rate and lower ammo cap, the MG turret should have at least stronger rounds that, like you mentioned, stagger enemies. Appreciate you checking out the video!
