      Dennis Brooks sweet! Those high lift fat wings of your ultra and h5 likely do better than my original HB’s, although i still had lots of lift reserve still. Im guessing it may have gotten to 10, given more time :-). What was your airspeed at 10k?

      Hi Pete. I did not think about your thin wings. I was just thinking about your 1/2 VW. I have no need to go up there again. Except for getting above the clouds.

    nicely flown Pete. the oil canning of the wing skin would bother me long term, and have me looking for fatigue cracks and loose rivets all the time. you mentioned 25 hp... what is the displacement of your motor ? what kind of climb rate are you getting on a "normal" day at sea level or whatever you;ve got ?

    • @PeteZoot
      @PeteZoot  Před 2 lety

      ya, I inspect constantly... so far, so good :-) Its an 82x94 1/2VW, but that HP at cruise is based on fuel flow of less than 2gal/hr. My hummel is quite heavy compared to some, and I get about 400ft/min on a std type day.

      Cool! Go for it! Its fun as heck! Advice to any new pilot, find a taildragger to start your training in as it teaches better stick and rudder reactions and is much easier to learn from zero hours than after learning on a nose gear, and provides the autonomic reactions skills required in this tiny bird on the runway. :-). Sure, it can be learned later, but takes more effort, and is more fun anyway :-)
