no way your going to make 85+hp out of a 627cc and have it live for more that 2 seconds. Every one like to claim big numbers most reliable you will get out of this engine would be 35 reliable power. so stop with the ridiculous hp figures!!!
@@douglasanderson1276 Come on Douglas, with enough Nitrous Oxide, that Chinesium V-twin could make 85HP for at least 4.23 seconds. It could make an impressive crater. It'd be all the talk on Kathryn's Report 🥺
First, thanks for all the vids. Wish I was there but this year I couldn't do all the walking. Will this engine work un a Hummelbird? And is there a WASTE SPARK?
Hi Perry Rhoads well sir when I flew Matt's UC I was watching the oil pressure. And it kept dropping so after 1 lap around the field I landed. I told Matt about it....he said don't worry about it go around again. So I did and it kept dropping so I landed again. So to answer your questions I did not really check out the airplane because I was fixed on the oil pressure. Matt says I can fly it again this September 17th at the next Hummel Gathering. So you will have to ask me again after that.....or you can be there to????
Is the Predator engine that this starts from the same as the one from Harbor Freight? What mods are made to ensure reliability and durability? Can't say I am impressed with the build quality of the exhaust manifold connections or intake manifold. I have a hard time imagining trusting my life to an engine from Harbor Freight.
Hi Rob yes sir you would be right it is a Harbor Freight engine. But Matt changed a lot of parts in it. You would need to talk to Matt at Hummel Aircraft Company for more details. Thank you
Hi Kem Smith well sir you may not want to hear my thoughts. But really I had but maybe 15 minutes of flight time with one. And I was concentrating on the engine to much to say how well it performed. I'm sorry it's a long story.....
Hi Der Nicolas well sir they are just testing. But this is a Harbour Freight engine. The 1/2 VW has a long waiting list to get one. So they are trying options...
@@redblackvette which is absolutely great! :) awkward conicidence that it's got the exact same displacement wrt the B&S reference V-twin that is used for years..
Hi LarsGailbraith sorry sir but I just found this message from you. I really try to answer everyone but I don't always get them. Yes sir you can buy the plans or kit from Hummel Aircraft Company. Don't give up on your dream!!!
Hi Carlyle Porter yes sir you would be right. But this engine has been gone through with better rods and pistons. And a better cam and a light flywheel ( which is all I can remember for now) so if you find an engine like that then I would buy it!!
engine 1,000, redrive 900, billet rods 200, flywheel 260, head work for higher compression 110, pistons 440, valve springs 125, dont know if they did the cam thats 250 and the intake manifold and carb work I would need spec on. There is other nickel and dime stuff too and that engine mount, plus all their labor. Its the same stroke as the BS Vanguard 23 twin but harbor freight orders them bored out mainly to tout they are bigger and because it lowers the compression ratio even further towards 8 to 1, to make the engine last. Warranty. The question I have is, are they re-balancing the crankshaft ??? No one knows.
We are happy to sell you the plans for the engine. You can tear it down, part it out, machine the special parts and reduction drive, and put it back together. It depends on how much you value your time and if you can get/make the parts. You can also go online and check out comparable engine prices, just make sure you're comparing apples to apples.
@@hummelaircraft I am just saying this is a brand new engine did not even try in the air the price should be lower till it's actually established itself
@@redjet505 you might want to watch the video again. We've flown, tested, collected data, etc. That specific engine came off our UC and has around 40-50 hours on it. It flies great.
Hi THELXFOX well sir I guess you mean because of the sharp bends? But I'm not sure at that low of rpm that that will hurt much. Now if it was turning 8000rpm that could be a problem...
Fantastic information, great job with the interview!
Thanks Dennis.
Awesome little engine perfect for the Ultracruiser. I wish that they would make a 85 -90hp version for the H5.
Hi Bill Carrier I sir think that would be pushing that little engine to far. Maybe a V4!!!!
Install a STV 100 or PBS TP100 turboprop. About half the weight.
I would look at the Yamaha Phazer engine!

Does the oil stay cool enough to where you would not need an oil cooler? Or would you recommend an oil cooler to extend the life of the engine?
Hi RandalBrack2130 well sir I'm sorry to say I do not know the answer. But I would think that it would need one if you fly in a hot region......
Interesting video - - - What are the ratings on this Motor - - - like Horsepower - - torque - - - Kilo watts at what RPMs ? ? ?
Hi Ray Dreamer Matt says he thinks the hp is between 35-40. Take off rpms are 4100. I do not know what the torque is
It looks like a stripped down 670cc predator v-twin with some custom bolt-ons. 22hp stock

Thanks for your interest. We designed the engine for the UC. We haven't tested it on the HB. There is a waste spark.
Dennis, since you have flown the V Twin UC, could you give your impression as it relates to rate of climb and cruise/top speed, please ??

Harbor Freight engines are Honda clones made by Honda
