They wouldn't even refund it to me after their promise of no-questions-asked refunds - primarily because I also bought the Blizzcon ticket on my preorder. Reps would only offer "in-store credit" for the Reforged part. It wasn't until I said "I'd be willing to write something promising that I won't join the inevitable class-action lawsuit" that I got the entire thing back. . Funny, that.
You can still install the public test realm -version from Blizzard servers, which runs the pre Reforged version 1.31. Just launch that through the .exe and you'll have a LAN/gameranger ready version of the game. Battle.net will not work with it anymore, though...

After Starcraft: Remastered, I was super excited for this. Was never so disappointed in my life. Was never so surprised to see C&C Remastered hit it out of the park like it did.
Blizzard: "We didn't change the cutscenes because WC3 is so classic and we want people to be able to relive those unforgettable moments as they were." Me, cringing every time I here dialogue where they spliced out the name 'Grom' and spliced in 'Hellscream': "OH REALLY NOW? IS THAT SO?"
They may have just meant visually, since that's all the upgrade was, close ups, like The Culling. Retaining the camera angles was a correct decision, probably the one they've made. The game is like C&C4, and hasn't stayed connected long enough for me to play the campaign decent. Obviously, changing the dialogue is wrong, as is some of their modelling choices, noteably the golems, and especially Detheroc who now had the Butcher's model. 😠 Whoever decided on a fat dreadlord needs to die horribly. But besides all this, I had to stop using Bnet years ago because the game is already suffering from they frequent patches. I mean, fuck, you got game right fucking years ago. One major change was swapping priest and sorc positions, mortar and gyro, that's all I recall for now. But then I hear the latest patch is meant to swap the spells Raise Dead and nerfed Cripple. So fucking wrong!
I’m playing C&C Remastered and it’s how a remaster should be done. You can tell the team behind it did everything they could to strike a balance between the game feeling like the original but with modern touches. Take note Blizzard!
Its sad. I must have spent more money on Blizzard games than any other devs. Many hundreds of dollars when you include over a decade of WoW subscriptions. I heralded them as one of the best developers around, an example of how to do everything right, a team who ensure everything they make is good, polished, and pushes gaming forwards. To see them go from that to... this is genuinely disturbing to me. A company banning players without refund for things they say on private social media accounts. A team with a reverse midas touch, turning everything gold into human waste. An example of the very worst of games developers, looking to spend as little as possible to make as much as possible with no interest in customer satisfaction. To me its less about Warcraft 3, though I'd spent some time playing it, and more about the dev as a whole and what they once meant to me. Until things dramatically change I won't be touching any of their games.

The Blizzcon statement was already proven to be a lie as well. They said they were not going to change story elements so players could have the quintessential Warcraft III experience since there was a significant amount of back lash over them retconning story elements to better match WoW-lore. Essentially, them choosing not to retcon story elements means = not including visual changes / remake promises. They were lying. The dishonest way this game was advertised, Blizzard refusing refunds initially (in contravention of the laws of my country and several others) and all the other shady shit that went on with this, coupled with the recent WoW-flubs etc has convinced me to never buy one of their games again. A real shame, too. But they've been doing greasy shit for the last decade. Real money auction house on Diablo 3 while the game had a horrendously broken loot table, anyone? It';s funny how many people forgot about that. I'm done with Activision-Blizzard. Vote with your wallets. Don't reward companies for fucking consumers and lying to them.

What I'm most angry about is that now I have to pirate the original game if I want to play the classic version of it. I left that life behind over decade ago and I don't want to go back to it. Additionally, Activision-Blizzard is being hypocrite based on that response. According to them the reason why the Reforged didn't have those new cutscenes was because they wanted to preserve the legacy of the original game (or something like that). But at the same time they butchered the Classic game, so players are no longer able to play it.
It makes me sad because to me the day I beat The Frozen Throne arthas is still sitting up their None of this reforged stuff happened World of Warcraft didn't happen in my universe The Lich king is still sitting on the Frozen Throne And the game is just waiting for me to return you play through the story again
Here's an idea: remake the cinematics but allow for an option for people who would rather see the old cinematics...everyone's happy? I've tried to buy the games that I pirated during my High School years,but I'm glad I still have Warcraft 1.26 on my system even though I haven't played in years. Funny thing is that everyone in my country probably pirated Warcraft 3, the game was everywhere- even on school computers.
My idea was to have them just leave the old campaign alone period. No new cutscenes, units, polish, nothing. That way no one complains, and they can still retcon everything in reforged. BUT THEY JACKED IT UP
I've never been happier to know that my copy of Warcraft III is an ISO that I downloaded when I lost my physical copy. It's safely stored on my hard drive and out of ActiBlizz's filthy clutches.
One thing you didn't mention which i think was even more insane was that they were even rejecting refunds if you had played X amount of hours on reforged already... before quickly changing it to allow refunds automatically from the amount of backlash. If EA were to release a proper Tiberium Dawn/Tiberium Sun remastered two-pack, I would forgive them for a whole five minutes for everything they've done wrong in recent years. That's about how long it takes for EA to fuck up, isn't it?
I was at the past 6 BlizzCons and I know a lot of Blizzard employees. While I can't say with 100% certainty, I'm pretty positive from what I've seen, heard and discussed, that the scope of the game had to be dialed back for many reasons: A lack of communication between Blizzard and Lemon Sky, shitty leadership at Lemon Sky, Blizzard firing half of their staff and cutting the budget on many projects, and also moving a lot of staff from the cancelled StarCraft Battlefield-inspired FPS, cancelled mobile game as well as Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft 2, Diablo 3 and WoW to Diablo 4. They wanted to rush the Diablo 4 demo out as fast as possible, so that it was ready in time for BlizzCon. I played the D4 demo, it was very short, very streamlined, very bare bones and very easy, not to mention the game visually looked like it was an Xbox One title from 2016 and running on an earlier version of Unreal 4 (probably because it was rushed and many visual effects, lighting, etc. were incomplete). A lot of features that were announced or shown at panels or in gameplay videos were actually not in the demo - probably because they weren't programmed, but just "animated" in 3D software and stitched together in the Adobe suite. They rushed to have something for BlizzCon, because they would've had nothing otherwise, especially with the other 2 planned games being cancelled. As a result, they had to dial back on WC3 Reforged. This is why the game was both delayed and released with bugs, missing features and it was also why we didn't hear anything about it for almost a year. One thing you also didn't mention but that is pretty glaring when looking at the 2018 BlizzCon demo is the lighting, bloom, blur, modern shaders and cloud/environment effects are completely gone from the final game. They probably couldn't finalize that and make it work for every map and implement it properly, so after making it work for 1 story mission only, they chose to scrap it completely instead of making variants for every other map/tileset. It would be odd if they only had volumetric fog and environment effects ONLY on the Stratholme map, so better to not have any at all in the game. I personally hate that, but it does make the game's art style look a lot more like WarCraft 2's, so there's a silver lining there (even if I'd have preferred them to go for the more realistic WoW cinematics look instead of more classical WC2 look). Granted, this is my interpretation of it based on my experience, knowledge/information and observation. I could be wrong, though I highly doubt I am.

I completed Prologue and Human campaign, and I had fun, I could live without cutscenes. I thought - yeah buts its 30EUR for actually quite a lot of SP content. Don't really care about MP, maybe except some custom game from time to time. And I was pleasantly surprised to see TFT included from the start... Sigh...But then I heard about the custom game policy and refunded as fast as I could. What the Fcuk?! Pathetic. If they did this properly - they could have charged 60EUR and people would have bought it if the content was there. I assume they simply do not have a dedicated RTS team anymore? The approach they took with SC2 was really great. I loved the in-between mission conversations and crazy in-game engine cut-scenes.
Yeah it is actually pretty expensive too - I didn't even mention price lul. I know right - it was so easy to be good. Idk who they messed it up so bad!

I installed a clean version of WCIII. If you stick to version 1.27b and don't patch beyond that? You can use your game key from your retail copy and have an untainted version. Bear in mind Blizzard shut down the site that used to hold all the legacy patches it seems. So you may have to find a 1.27b standalone installer. It's what I did and it worked wonders.
Big brain stuff 2.0 ? (This gonna be hard) I think i'm going to review Wc3 Reforged by filling in the spots and giving more context to the great work Zade has already done. i'll even start in the order which his video proceeds. So, the first 40 seconds, and seems neutral or "positive" enough, and i noticed you mentioned "deep support for custom games" so i'll expand upon it and say that, one of the "hidden" greater things about Reforgeds project is that when Blizzard started patching up wc3 from 1.28.5 and beyond, preparing it for the release of Reforged, there has been a lot of stuff that broke, but a lot of stuff has been fixed, improved and new features and native support for coding languages added and expanded. so that's a big plus. the issue is that, this "gem" is covered in a pile of trash in my opinion. Infact i think Zade mentions the most important part of this video right at the start, and its that, there is simply no humanly possible situation one can think, that giving a dose of fresh air to wc3 through a remaster could ever fail. but it did. Blizzard had a lot of get out of jail free cards, because the dedication their remaining loyal fanbase had allowed them to get away. how so ?... well it is infact argued and demanded among the fans (including me) that they should have made models and graphics that are more similar to the treatment Age 2 DE got. very faithful to the original. so point 1: we didn't need overblown graphics to be satisfied. and there were a lot of arguments that the new Campaign overhaul, when it came to retconning the story and extra voice actors didn't need to happen because we were satisfied with what we had. so point 2 their overpromise of all these seemingly giant things happen or not would not really contribute in us rating the project higher. And their biggest free card is when Zade hits mark 1:09 and beyond. they didn't need to change the gameplay either, because the pro player community was like "don't change the game play, we're fine with limitations we have" where in Age 2 DE as far as i know there are several things they did to make the game easier to play. So Warcraft 3 Reforged already has a massive advantage in NOT needing to consider doing a lot of things. Now, as Zade mentions the "good part" which is the models and visual upgrades, see, this is very debatable, i absolutely agree that on an individual level, and by close camera zoom, Reforged models are extremely detailed, and look great. despite of a lot of "design-idea" flaws that didn't match with Warcrafts face as we know it. But for me personally, This is my opinion on it: A remaster of Wc3 (regardless of its fancy name) Should 1 - Be faithful to the original game. 2 - Be faithful to the Warcraft IP. 3 - Be faithful and suit in an RTS game. Reforged is like: 1 - Not faithful to the original game. 2 - Opposite of warcraft IP, aka its realistic high detailed, compared to stylish cartoony. 3 - Not suited for an RTS game. Conclusion, the visual upgrade over warcraft 3 with the project of Reforgeds was at best mind numbingly average, and at worst, complete betrayal. It is what i like to call, making a Mario game but putting realistic detailed models from The Last of US, or Uncharted in Mario, and have those models cos play and dress in Mario cloths. it just doesn't fit. unlike the icons, if you actually compare wc3 Reforgeds icons, they are apart of some of the best stuff i love about this project. aside from several unit face icons which just look dull. and unispired. the rest look great, including the icons for abilities and etc. which some of the are breathtaking one on one recreations from the original, they just look... better. Now, i want to talk about the first categorized part of the video, aka "Visual Downgrades, and False Adds" so, i think here is where the problem lies, Blizzard choice for a visual upgrade was soo over the top, that i knew that the inner community at large and the pro players would just... disagree with it, and i saw the downgrade coming from a mile away because if Blizzard had actually applied this. there would have been a LOT of backlash from community. they simply didn't choose the correct puzzle piece to fit in regardless of how much one might claim it "looks good". My opinion on the Campaign was that, despite them saying beforehand that they are simply going to be falling back on a lot of these promises in the Campaign and the Cutscenes, they still made huge changes, i was expecting that, despite they said they are going to fall back from the 3rd person close up camera shots, the remastered Cutscenes would still just be from an RTS point of view BUT in the same quality in the 2018 demo, aka more animations, and a LOT of new stuff. but i was wrong, animations are stiff, portrait animations feel like the characters mumbling, which is funny, because the over the top portrait animations of the original game now has more soul in it, while most Reforged animations their heads just stare into the abyss with hardly any character showing off. and the Campaign missions that have gotten a lot of attention are often in very poor quality, or for the most part, hardly have any change from the original game, hell not even the terrain designs and layout, a lot of people like to complain about how the Reforged terrain graphics in 2018 demo looked better, but honestly in my opinion the terrain designs for the new Campaign could have been done a lot better. a lot more beautiful and creative stuff could have been done. but weren't. and they all say "oh the community didn't want it" yeah sure xD A word on the UI that was promised, personally me, others, and pro players. just preferred the old UI. so that's why they did this. but the truth is, the UI has no customization, they could have easily made the 2018 UI and just have a toggle option to switch to original themed one. and its just shameful they didn't do this. Furthermore, the mainmenu UI is browser based. that's running on top of the game that's underneath it. it eats RAM like a hungry bear. and most functionalities of the original game is .... gone. Lan exists through custom games and in a shitty method that doesn't even have a Lan button for it, unlike the original game. and true singleplayer games are no longer a thing, which means true LAN doesn't exist. www.reddit.com/r/WC3/comments/f8g14u/thorzain_disconnected_against_moon_in_lan/fil59un/ Have a look a pro player tournament was disturbed because they were playing in LAN and the game disconnected,.... disconnected,,,, IN LAN xDDDD Also there is a massive disrespect to the people who prefer to play in Classic Mode in Reforged, because when you switch from the options, instead of returning the old 3D animated backgrounds for main menu and Campaigns and looking more like classic... its just Reforged, but literally greyed out on screen, some sort of filter. its absolutely disgusting insult. and they have downgraded and tried to show Classic wc3 graphics bad, or worse then it actually is to sell their product. it was after mass community backlash that they fixed "partially" how Wc3 Classic Mode looks. a lot of people simply don't realize how much the loyal community and pro players didn't even care for new graphics and would have played like nothing happened fairing fine in Classic wc3 graphics. The EULA is apparently just "reworded" from what it originally meant according to certain Blizzard developers. and they just claim that its fine and ask Sc2 mapmakers if they ever had issues with this new EULA. ignoring the facts that Warcraft 3 has an overwhelmingly larger category of list when it comes to custom games, unlike SC2 that doesn't trend too far in other genres, as Zade mentions like Mario or DBZ. though to their credit. no custom map has yet been banned besides 1 that was also banned in old battle.net and some of the name restrictions were removed, including booty. still laughable how they restricted in the first place. and a Dev even called this an unintentional "bug" can you believe it ? But yeah, its to be seen if this EULA will effect maps and what will happen. a lot of people are saying this is simply illegal in most EU counteries, but the simple fact that Blizzard tried to get away with it is just disgusting. Moving on.... Classic Warcraft 3 being removed is one of the biggest causes of outright ragefull reactions. Issuing a sorry statement they could have atleast keep the 1.31.1 classic client up and say, enjoy it while we fix Reforged. but nope we have to sit and get dragged through the mud and dirt with them. Campaign apology is disgusting, they're like. yeah community wanted us to do NOTHING. so we did nothing :D which is untrue :D All in all, i'm a blind fanatic of Warcraft 3 (Reforged not included) that would rate the game 11/10 and defend it everywhere agaisn't moba games that all owe this game to tower defense or RISK games. King Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos & The Frozen Throne. yet some how Blizzard managed to ruin the game soo much so that i'd not only hate them but be jealous of Microsoft that remastered Age 1, Age 2, Announced Age 4. and we now know Age 3 is getting remastered. and we also have heard rumors that they might look to Age of Mythology after they're done with Age3RM. I feel depressed :D blame me for having soo much emotional connection to this game :D

Its really a damn big shame....as Warcraft III to this very day was my favorite game of all time, its really a damn clusterfuck to watch this all unfold. I would like to think that Blizzard would do Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn treatment to Warcraft III: Reforged, but lets be honest here, they wont invest that much time or resources fixing this. They just dont care about their reputation that much anymore. And if Blizzard REALLY wanted to return faith of their fans, they would not only do that, but also completely remake the first two Warcaft games and announce that eventually it will all lead to Warcraft IV. So kind of what Microsoft is doing with Age of Empires, but bigger.....but like said Blizzard Entertainment that would have done stuff like that is long gone and dead now :(

The story of Activision, was a bunch of game devs who under the lash of Atari stopped making games because Atari would not credit them in their products. They started out as the hero to stand up against Corporate greed. Fast forward to today, Atari is dead but they have become the very monster they sought to slay. Some might say they are worse.
Well, the boxed version of WC3 and FT still work, so there is that. For once I am happy to not have thrown something out I thought was (probably) available digitally well into the future. Lucky me I guess.

Most of the performance problems lies from the fact blizzard never updated the engine to utilize multiple cores properly even though its been updated to use dx11. The game basically runs on a single core. You have to have an i9 9900k at 5.3ghz just to reduce drops
I used to play Frozen Throne on a regular bases. Dota was what i played most often, but i was pretty regular on other mods like Castle Defense, Snake(like on old mobile phones), WW3 and others. I was really looking forward to reforged hoping the good old Dota will come back, and that i can put these modded maps i have saved to good use. This is the number one game i looked forward to since reforged was announced. It was a game of my childhood, along with Warcraft 2. From now on i am boycotting these selfish monsters.
I love WC3 Reforged. I don't know how people are complaining about the models and animations when that was literally the one bright spot of this remaster. I do get the complaints with all the other stuff though (with the map editor and such), but I just don't care about those other features so it never bothered me.
I disagree even with the visual overhaul. It's basically the minimum expected, and there's even some pretty glaring inconsistencies in the model quality and animation. Mountain King's walk cycle, for example, looks like it's half-way through the first draft of it. He's basically T-posing, with just his legs moving.
blizzard claiming the IP of concepts a third party may come up with just because it is realised within the War3 engine seems completely abusive to me, i'm pretty sure if the EU were to hear that they would roast them alive. i actually have two copies of the game (to play online with my brother) and at least one is activated on their website, i wonder if i could still download it from there. whatever their policy is, i've always loved the campaigns. and i don't really care for fancy graphics.

People talk about the cutscenes, but they completely ignore what happened to the campaign. You need to remember, we were promised a fully reworked campaign with updated levels. They then pretended to 'listen to fan feedback' and abolished notions of parity with WoW, which wouldn't have affected the original campaign whatsoever, as even back then they stated it'd remain in the game. There was a clear promise that the entirety of the campaign would be remastered, with different terrain and quests at the very least. They then released a game with a grand total of 5 levels that were any different, while the rest are often more broken than the originals. Just because they gave a heads-up that we're not actually getting any new story content does not mean that they did not devalue their product by taking away one of its most defining features. That's as outrageous as... ...all the other bullshit that they did.
Yeah I remember that! There was going to be some updates to bring it on line with WoW right? The remaster is no where near what was promised - in so many ways I can't even remember!
Now with GTA I realised the only reason we get these 'remasters' is because their makers can't stand it that a large group of players is still playing their old games and they're not making any money off of it. Why is the gaming industry so greedy and fucked up?
Yeah, I enjoyed the original WIII RC and TFT so much that Blizzard decided to *remove* them from my account! Is it just me or they've hid the classics from their site? Fortunately I still have the original CDs somewhere...
So if I understand the situation, everything is NORMAL at Blizzard. Happy Activision day! I lost all hope when Activision acquired Blizzard (another BSW type step backwards). I would never buy another remake or even new game from them. Period.

Classic WoW is the other half decent game to come from Blizzard in the past 5 years, and yet they still fucked that up to in some areas, and retail WoW i will never touch again. Checking in around a year after its release and from what I've seen, they still haven't delivered on their promises, updates are few and far between and mainly are just balance changes. I've been told they fixed the crashing bugs but that's about it. I could be wrong, someone can comment the actual state of the game, but I'm still not buying it. I'm not willing to pay full price for a game that still can't deliver on its promises, plus I wouldn't pay full price for a game that old, remaster or no. If you can't significantly improve the game, you don't deserve that kind of money on a remaster.
Not surprised at how Blizzard went to shit. In the last couple of years, the founders of the company have all left the company, as did Metzen, the biggest creative mind of the company, also retire back in 2016. If that's not a testament to how the old-school leadership just couldn't take shit anymore from the corporate higher-ups and that piece-of-shit Kottick, then I don't know what is.
So about the retroactive changed to classic Warcraft 3, what about pirated versions of the game? Did those get changed too? Can you still get an untainted version of classic War 3 by pirating it somewhere?
You can--but from what I understand, going on battlenet won't be possible for it. You will also have to procure the pre-reforged updates from somewhere online separately.
@1:18 "first, the good things" Hard disagree. I really hate the models and knew the second I saw them that the remaster would suck. It's a simple heuristic. If the remaster (or sequel, in other cases) OBVIOUSLY disrespects some core aspect of the original, as these obviously do, it's going to suck. In this case, the aesthetic style of the new models is wildly incongruous with the original WC3 aesthetic. For an appropriate update on the same aesthetic to kinda-sorta the same universe, look to Heroes of the Storm. It's a MOBA obviously, but the heroes and its little RTS trash mobs are the same style of unit. And its aesthetic is perfectly consistent with WC3's. In fact, I'm pretty sure Samwise works on it, or 'worked' on it since I guess he's left Blizzard by now. Anyway, the models look like generic chinese shovelware. Which is exactly what the "remaster" (more like "demaster", lmao!) turned out to be. They're not a "good thing". The "once you zoom all the way in" comment is funny, since these models are supposed to look good when you're zoomed all the way out, for the sake of visual clarity, and kind of silly and exaggerated once you've zoomed all the way in. Just another very obvious error they made with them.
I'm currently playing Warcraft 3 Reforged in classic mode and it's working for me. Although as of this writing I haven't finished the culling of strantholme yet.

They wouldn't even refund it to me after their promise of no-questions-asked refunds - primarily because I also bought the Blizzcon ticket on my preorder. Reps would only offer "in-store credit" for the Reforged part. It wasn't until I said "I'd be willing to write something promising that I won't join the inevitable class-action lawsuit" that I got the entire thing back.

You can still install the public test realm -version from Blizzard servers, which runs the pre Reforged version 1.31. Just launch that through the .exe and you'll have a LAN/gameranger ready version of the game. Battle.net will not work with it anymore, though...

They may have just meant visually, since that's all the upgrade was, close ups, like The Culling.
Retaining the camera angles was a correct decision, probably the one they've made.
The game is like C&C4, and hasn't stayed connected long enough for me to play the campaign decent.
Obviously, changing the dialogue is wrong, as is some of their modelling choices, noteably the golems, and especially Detheroc who now had the Butcher's model. 😠

But besides all this, I had to stop using Bnet years ago because the game is already suffering from they frequent patches. I mean, fuck, you got game right fucking years ago.
One major change was swapping priest and sorc positions, mortar and gyro, that's all I recall for now. But then I hear the latest patch is meant to swap the spells Raise Dead and nerfed Cripple. So fucking wrong!

I’m playing C&C Remastered and it’s how a remaster should be done. You can tell the team behind it did everything they could to strike a balance between the game feeling like the original but with modern touches. Take note Blizzard!

Its sad. I must have spent more money on Blizzard games than any other devs. Many hundreds of dollars when you include over a decade of WoW subscriptions. I heralded them as one of the best developers around, an example of how to do everything right, a team who ensure everything they make is good, polished, and pushes gaming forwards. To see them go from that to... this is genuinely disturbing to me. A company banning players without refund for things they say on private social media accounts. A team with a reverse midas touch, turning everything gold into human waste. An example of the very worst of games developers, looking to spend as little as possible to make as much as possible with no interest in customer satisfaction. To me its less about Warcraft 3, though I'd spent some time playing it, and more about the dev as a whole and what they once meant to me. Until things dramatically change I won't be touching any of their games.

Aaron Dickenson Another one I forgot. I was actually not too against that comment at the time as I had faith in them. Maybe its not a game that would translate well to computers, maybe they're using it as a testing ground then bringing the good stuff back to Diablo 4 for us to play with. In retrospect I was wrong. Also ironically, no I don't have phones. Mine is far too old to play their game which was the biggest point I cringed on with their reply. That and how obviously tone deaf it is, and how incredibly easy it would have been for them to mitigate that criticism with the answer I hoped for. God they're a mess.

The Blizzcon statement was already proven to be a lie as well.
They said they were not going to change story elements so players could have the quintessential Warcraft III experience since there was a significant amount of back lash over them retconning story elements to better match WoW-lore. Essentially, them choosing not to retcon story elements means = not including visual changes / remake promises. They were lying.
The dishonest way this game was advertised, Blizzard refusing refunds initially (in contravention of the laws of my country and several others) and all the other shady shit that went on with this, coupled with the recent WoW-flubs etc has convinced me to never buy one of their games again. A real shame, too. But they've been doing greasy shit for the last decade. Real money auction house on Diablo 3 while the game had a horrendously broken loot table, anyone? It';s funny how many people forgot about that.

I've tried to buy the games that I pirated during my High School years,but I'm glad I still have Warcraft 1.26 on my system even though I haven't played in years. My idea was to have them just leave the old campaign alone period. No new cutscenes, units, polish, nothing. That way no one complains, and they can still retcon everything in reforged.

Hey Zade, I noticed your subtitle little push for another remastered timeless classic RTS (aoe 2). Based on what I’ve observed, the reception from the community is drastic. Can you think you can list some different ways both games were remastered that caused this difference in reception?
Simply put, Age of Empires 2 Definitive shows a lot of respect towards the original game, adds changes people actually like, and doesn't delete the original game from existence :)
Wouldn't it be fun if most hated company, money grubbing EA made a better remaster of C&C over well one of the most beloved and most loved companies (before going crazy) and their most beloved franchise Warcraft... Looking forward for the release to see how it is.
If EA were to release a proper Tiberium Dawn/Tiberium Sun remastered two-pack, I would forgive them for a whole five minutes for everything they've done wrong in recent years. That's about how long it takes for EA to fuck up, isn't it?

I was at the past 6 BlizzCons and I know a lot of Blizzard employees. While I can't say with 100% certainty, I'm pretty positive from what I've seen, heard and discussed, that the scope of the game had to be dialed back for many reasons: A lack of communication between Blizzard and Lemon Sky, shitty leadership at Lemon Sky, Blizzard firing half of their staff and cutting the budget on many projects, and also moving a lot of staff from the cancelled StarCraft Battlefield-inspired FPS, cancelled mobile game as well as Heroes of the Storm, StarCraft 2, Diablo 3 and WoW to Diablo 4. They wanted to rush the Diablo 4 demo out as fast as possible, so that it was ready in time for BlizzCon. I played the D4 demo, it was very short, very streamlined, very bare bones and very easy, not to mention the game visually looked like it was an Xbox One title from 2016 and running on an earlier version of Unreal 4 (probably because it was rushed and many visual effects, lighting, etc. were incomplete). A lot of features that were announced or shown at panels or in gameplay videos were actually not in the demo - probably because they weren't programmed, but just "animated" in 3D software and stitched together in the Adobe suite. They rushed to have something for BlizzCon, because they would've had nothing otherwise, especially with the other 2 planned games being cancelled. As a result, they had to dial back on WC3 Reforged. This is why the game was both delayed and released with bugs, missing features and it was also why we didn't hear anything about it for almost a year. One thing you also didn't mention but that is pretty glaring when looking at the 2018 BlizzCon demo is the lighting, bloom, blur, modern shaders and cloud/environment effects are completely gone from the final game. They probably couldn't finalize that and make it work for every map and implement it properly, so after making it work for 1 story mission only, they chose to scrap it completely instead of making variants for every other map/tileset. It would be odd if they only had volumetric fog and environment effects ONLY on the Stratholme map, so better to not have any at all in the game. I personally hate that, but it does make the game's art style look a lot more like WarCraft 2's, so there's a silver lining there (even if I'd have preferred them to go for the more realistic WoW cinematics look instead of more classical WC2 look).
Granted, this is my interpretation of it based on my experience, knowledge/information and observation. I could be wrong, though I highly doubt I am.

I completed Prologue and Human campaign, and I had fun, I could live without cutscenes. I thought - yeah buts its 30EUR for actually quite a lot of SP content. Don't really care about MP, maybe except some custom game from time to time. And I was pleasantly surprised to see TFT included from the start... Sigh...But then I heard about the custom game policy and refunded as fast as I could. What the Fcuk?! Pathetic.
If they did this properly - they could have charged 60EUR and people would have bought it if the content was there. I assume they simply do not have a dedicated RTS team anymore? The approach they took with SC2 was really great. I loved the in-between mission conversations and crazy in-game engine cut-scenes.

my one question: did they add player reporting for online? eg: reporting a player for being toxic? please please tell me they didnt, a great thing about these old games is people being able to say absolutely anything.
I installed a clean version of WCIII. If you stick to version 1.27b and don't patch beyond that? You can use your game key from your retail copy and have an untainted version. Bear in mind Blizzard shut down the site that used to hold all the legacy patches it seems. So you may have to find a 1.27b standalone installer. It's what I did and it worked wonders.

I think i'm going to review Wc3 Reforged by filling in the spots and giving more context to the great work Zade has already done. i'll even start in the order which his video proceeds.
So, the first 40 seconds, and seems neutral or "positive" enough, and i noticed you mentioned "deep support for custom games" so i'll expand upon it and say that, one of the "hidden" greater things about Reforgeds project is that when Blizzard started patching up wc3 from 1.28.5 and beyond, preparing it for the release of Reforged, there has been a lot of stuff that broke, but a lot of stuff has been fixed, improved and new features and native support for coding languages added and expanded. so that's a big plus. the issue is that, this "gem" is covered in a pile of trash in my opinion.
Infact i think Zade mentions the most important part of this video right at the start, and its that, there is simply no humanly possible situation one can think, that giving a dose of fresh air to wc3 through a remaster could ever fail. but it did. Blizzard had a lot of get out of jail free cards, because the dedication their remaining loyal fanbase had allowed them to get away. how so ?... well it is infact argued and demanded among the fans (including me) that they should have made models and graphics that are more similar to the treatment Age 2 DE got. very faithful to the original. so point 1: we didn't need overblown graphics to be satisfied. and there were a lot of arguments that the new Campaign overhaul, when it came to retconning the story and extra voice actors didn't need to happen because we were satisfied with what we had. so point 2 their overpromise of all these seemingly giant things happen or not would not really contribute in us rating the project higher.
And their biggest free card is when Zade hits mark 1:09 and beyond. they didn't need to change the gameplay either, because the pro player community was like "don't change the game play, we're fine with limitations we have" where in Age 2 DE as far as i know there are several things they did to make the game easier to play.
So Warcraft 3 Reforged already has a massive advantage in NOT needing to consider doing a lot of things.
Now, as Zade mentions the "good part" which is the models and visual upgrades, see, this is very debatable, i absolutely agree that on an individual level, and by close camera zoom, Reforged models are extremely detailed, and look great. despite of a lot of "design-idea" flaws that didn't match with Warcrafts face as we know it.
But for me personally, This is my opinion on it:
A remaster of Wc3 (regardless of its fancy name)
Should
1 - Be faithful to the original game.
2 - Be faithful to the Warcraft IP.
3 - Be faithful and suit in an RTS game.
Reforged is like:
1 - Not faithful to the original game.
2 - Opposite of warcraft IP, aka its realistic high detailed, compared to stylish cartoony.
3 - Not suited for an RTS game.
Conclusion, the visual upgrade over warcraft 3 with the project of Reforgeds was at best mind numbingly average, and at worst, complete betrayal.
It is what i like to call, making a Mario game but putting realistic detailed models from The Last of US, or Uncharted in Mario, and have those models cos play and dress in Mario cloths. it just doesn't fit. unlike the icons, if you actually compare wc3 Reforgeds icons, they are apart of some of the best stuff i love about this project. aside from several unit face icons which just look dull. and unispired. the rest look great, including the icons for abilities and etc. which some of the are breathtaking one on one recreations from the original, they just look... better.
Now, i want to talk about the first categorized part of the video, aka "Visual Downgrades, and False Adds" so, i think here is where the problem lies, Blizzard choice for a visual upgrade was soo over the top, that i knew that the inner community at large and the pro players would just... disagree with it, and i saw the downgrade coming from a mile away because if Blizzard had actually applied this. there would have been a LOT of backlash from community. they simply didn't choose the correct puzzle piece to fit in regardless of how much one might claim it "looks good".
My opinion on the Campaign was that, despite them saying beforehand that they are simply going to be falling back on a lot of these promises in the Campaign and the Cutscenes, they still made huge changes, i was expecting that, despite they said they are going to fall back from the 3rd person close up camera shots, the remastered Cutscenes would still just be from an RTS point of view BUT in the same quality in the 2018 demo, aka more animations, and a LOT of new stuff. but i was wrong, animations are stiff, portrait animations feel like the characters mumbling, which is funny, because the over the top portrait animations of the original game now has more soul in it, while most Reforged animations their heads just stare into the abyss with hardly any character showing off. and the Campaign missions that have gotten a lot of attention are often in very poor quality, or for the most part, hardly have any change from the original game, hell not even the terrain designs and layout, a lot of people like to complain about how the Reforged terrain graphics in 2018 demo looked better, but honestly in my opinion the terrain designs for the new Campaign could have been done a lot better. a lot more beautiful and creative stuff could have been done. but weren't. and they all say "oh the community didn't want it" yeah sure xD
A word on the UI that was promised, personally me, others, and pro players. just preferred the old UI. so that's why they did this. but the truth is, the UI has no customization, they could have easily made the 2018 UI and just have a toggle option to switch to original themed one. and its just shameful they didn't do this.
Furthermore, the mainmenu UI is browser based. that's running on top of the game that's underneath it. it eats RAM like a hungry bear. and most functionalities of the original game is .... gone. Lan exists through custom games and in a shitty method that doesn't even have a Lan button for it, unlike the original game. and true singleplayer games are no longer a thing, which means true LAN doesn't exist.

Also there is a massive disrespect to the people who prefer to play in Classic Mode in Reforged, because when you switch from the options, instead of returning the old 3D animated backgrounds for main menu and Campaigns and looking more like classic... its just Reforged, but literally greyed out on screen, some sort of filter.
its absolutely disgusting insult. and they have downgraded and tried to show Classic wc3 graphics bad, or worse then it actually is to sell their product. it was after mass community backlash that they fixed "partially" how Wc3 Classic Mode looks. a lot of people simply don't realize how much the loyal community and pro players didn't even care for new graphics and would have played like nothing happened fairing fine in Classic wc3 graphics.
The EULA is apparently just "reworded" from what it originally meant according to certain Blizzard developers. and they just claim that its fine and ask Sc2 mapmakers if they ever had issues with this new EULA. ignoring the facts that Warcraft 3 has an overwhelmingly larger category of list when it comes to custom games, unlike SC2 that doesn't trend too far in other genres, as Zade mentions like Mario or DBZ. though to their credit. no custom map has yet been banned besides 1 that was also banned in old battle.net and some of the name restrictions were removed, including booty. still laughable how they restricted in the first place. and a Dev even called this an unintentional "bug" can you believe it ?
But yeah, its to be seen if this EULA will effect maps and what will happen. a lot of people are saying this is simply illegal in most EU counteries, but the simple fact that Blizzard tried to get away with it is just disgusting.
Moving on.... Classic Warcraft 3 being removed is one of the biggest causes of outright ragefull reactions. Issuing a sorry statement they could have atleast keep the 1.31.1 classic client up and say, enjoy it while we fix Reforged. but nope we have to sit and get dragged through the mud and dirt with them.
Campaign apology is disgusting, they're like. yeah community wanted us to do NOTHING. so we did nothing :D

All in all, i'm a blind fanatic of Warcraft 3 (Reforged not included) that would rate the game 11/10 and defend it everywhere agaisn't moba games that all owe this game to tower defense or RISK games. King Warcraft 3 Reign of Chaos & The Frozen Throne. yet some how Blizzard managed to ruin the game soo much so that i'd not only hate them but be jealous of Microsoft that remastered Age 1, Age 2, Announced Age 4. and we now know Age 3 is getting remastered. and we also have heard rumors that they might look to Age of Mythology after they're done with Age3RM.

Its really a damn big shame....as Warcraft III to this very day was my favorite game of all time, its really a damn clusterfuck to watch this all unfold.
I would like to think that Blizzard would do Final Fantasy XIV: Realm Reborn treatment to Warcraft III: Reforged, but lets be honest here, they wont invest that much time or resources fixing this. They just dont care about their reputation that much anymore. And if Blizzard REALLY wanted to return faith of their fans, they would not only do that, but also completely remake the first two Warcaft games and announce that eventually it will all lead to Warcraft IV.
So kind of what Microsoft is doing with Age of Empires, but bigger.....but like said Blizzard Entertainment that would have done stuff like that is long gone and dead now :(

Most of the performance problems lies from the fact blizzard never updated the engine to utilize multiple cores properly even though its been updated to use dx11. The game basically runs on a single core. You have to have an i9 9900k at 5.3ghz just to reduce drops
I used to play Frozen Throne on a regular bases. Dota was what i played most often, but i was pretty regular on other mods like Castle Defense, Snake(like on old mobile phones), WW3 and others. I was really looking forward to reforged hoping the good old Dota will come back, and that i can put these modded maps i have saved to good use. This is the number one game i looked forward to since reforged was announced. It was a game of my childhood, along with Warcraft 2. From now on i am boycotting these selfish monsters.
I am so happy my dad has the original discs from Warcraft 3 and Frozen Throne.

I love WC3 Reforged. I don't know how people are complaining about the models and animations when that was literally the one bright spot of this remaster. I do get the complaints with all the other stuff though (with the map editor and such), but I just don't care about those other features so it never bothered me.
I disagree even with the visual overhaul. It's basically the minimum expected, and there's even some pretty glaring inconsistencies in the model quality and animation. Mountain King's walk cycle, for example, looks like it's half-way through the first draft of it. He's basically T-posing, with just his legs moving.

blizzard claiming the IP of concepts a third party may come up with just because it is realised within the War3 engine seems completely abusive to me, i'm pretty sure if the EU were to hear that they would roast them alive.
i actually have two copies of the game (to play online with my brother) and at least one is activated on their website, i wonder if i could still download it from there. whatever their policy is, i've always loved the campaigns. and i don't really care for fancy graphics.

People talk about the cutscenes, but they completely ignore what happened to the campaign. You need to remember, we were promised a fully reworked campaign with updated levels. They then pretended to 'listen to fan feedback' and abolished notions of parity with WoW, which wouldn't have affected the original campaign whatsoever, as even back then they stated it'd remain in the game.
There was a clear promise that the entirety of the campaign would be remastered, with different terrain and quests at the very least. They then released a game with a grand total of 5 levels that were any different, while the rest are often more broken than the originals. Just because they gave a heads-up that we're not actually getting any new story content does not mean that they did not devalue their product by taking away one of its most defining features. That's as outrageous as... ...all the other bullshit that they did.

So if I understand the situation, everything is NORMAL at Blizzard. Happy Activision day! I lost all hope when Activision acquired Blizzard (another BSW type step backwards). I would never buy another remake or even new game from them. Period.

Checking in around a year after its release and from what I've seen, they still haven't delivered on their promises, updates are few and far between and mainly are just balance changes. I've been told they fixed the crashing bugs but that's about it. I could be wrong, someone can comment the actual state of the game, but I'm still not buying it. I'm not willing to pay full price for a game that still can't deliver on its promises, plus I wouldn't pay full price for a game that old, remaster or no. If you can't significantly improve the game, you don't deserve that kind of money on a remaster.
Not surprised at how Blizzard went to shit. In the last couple of years, the founders of the company have all left the company, as did Metzen, the biggest creative mind of the company, also retire back in 2016. Hard disagree. I really hate the models and knew the second I saw them that the remaster would suck. It's a simple heuristic. If the remaster (or sequel, in other cases) OBVIOUSLY disrespects some core aspect of the original, as these obviously do, it's going to suck. In this case, the aesthetic style of the new models is wildly incongruous with the original WC3 aesthetic. For an appropriate update on the same aesthetic to kinda-sorta the same universe, look to Heroes of the Storm. It's a MOBA obviously, but the heroes and its little RTS trash mobs are the same style of unit. And its aesthetic is perfectly consistent with WC3's. In fact, I'm pretty sure Samwise works on it, or 'worked' on it since I guess he's left Blizzard by now. Anyway, the models look like generic chinese shovelware. Which is exactly what the "remaster" (more like "demaster", lmao!) turned out to be. They're not a "good thing". The "once you zoom all the way in" comment is funny, since these models are supposed to look good when you're zoomed all the way out, for the sake of visual clarity, and kind of silly and exaggerated once you've zoomed all the way in. Just another very obvious error they made with them.

I'm currently playing Warcraft 3 Reforged in classic mode and it's working for me. Although as of this writing I haven't finished the culling of strantholme yet.
