Honestly, I've got no issue with him leaving. Howe and Nickson have proven that they can handle recruitment. Staveley and co have proven to be reasonable negotiators. Steve Harper seems to be doing a decent job with the academy and all of those are hopefully long-term figures.
I don't think it is all that big of a blow, and if we can get someone who is slightly more comfortable with the role and more cohesive with Howe, ideally in a way that further entrenches Howe's position at the club and secures his future, then I'd probably prefer that to having Ashworth.

He doesn’t strike me as the most loyal of fellows. I mean, why should he be, I suppose. This is business etc. Not how we see it, obviously.
As for CW! Frustrating doesn’t come close. Eddie Howe has had nothing short of catastrophe at every turn this year. However, taking a step back, I think we see the character of the guy. Napoleon said something along the lines of “You become strong by defying defeat and by turning loss and failure into success.”
He also said that good fortune and ‘luck’ hide the ability of a general whereas adversity brings out their true ability. One thing Eddie has over the likes of Mourinho and even Pep G is that he’s had to work from the bottom up. He seems to be truly very resilient to adversity. I think - hope - we’ll look back on this season and remember how tough it was and how well we did all the same.

Ashworth spent 6 years at the FA, then spent 4 years at Brighton. That doesn't scream disloyalty to me. He's loyal to his own ambition, as he should be. If we as fans shouldn't really expect loyalty from players, then we should expect even less loyalty from the guys in suits. Every single new job Dan's accepted has objectively been an upgrade, and now he's at the top of the pyramid at Man Utd. You can't knock the guy for aiming high

It's arguably a bigger project than Newcastle. They have a lot of dead wood around the club, earning millions a year and contributing nothing. Culturally the place seems toxic and needs an overhaul. The stadium sounds like it needs a lot of work. Etc etc.
They definitely have more resources than Newcastle but I think they also need a much bigger rebuild.

I understand the idea of wanting everything to be done quickly as long as the compensation figure is met etc.
However, for me, no club out there is doing us a favour (remember the Lingaard loan fee??) so we need to be awkward and play hard ball. Even though I'm not so sure he's all he's cracked up to be this is all about perception. We must Insist on the gardening leave and some kind of NDA to cover the summer transfer window period. And if there is even the slightest hint of a breach then get the lawyers involved and get Man U in court and drag them through it.
Meanwhile, go and recruit two serious world class execs and give them slightly different titles to Ashworth and put them to work straight away.
This is a perception battle - rather than a reality one - that we must come out of in a much stronger place.

Since he left the FA, Brighton neither have fallen apart. Quite the oposite. Ashworth is a business man that teaches football folk basic business practices and charges a fortune for the privelege.

I don't think there's any discussion about Ashworth's qualities. His track record speaks volume. I don't think this is the problem here or the discussion. The discussion here should be how football seems to handle or even understand the concept "contract".
A contract is a safety going both ways and usually a financial benefit to the part signing on to it. But that financial benefit comes with a caveat. It has a length. So why aren't football taking this part of the contract discussion more seriously?
I don't think you should keep players nor personal against their will, but then again you have to respect the paper you sign because of what I just mentioned. So in this case with a personal in power, you don't just release him to sign for the competition because that would have far more damaging consequences than money...
I would argue that you remind your personal of that when they sign-on in the first place and if it should happen that person will leave before the end of the signed contract then of course that said person cannot leave so it impacts the club he's contracted to negatively.
To put this in layman terms, Ashworth cannot be in a position where he will impact Newcastle's transfer window this summer negatively. This is the basic point of a contact.
Is this a think that's not as clear as water in the UK?

We clearly didn’t do our due diligence in regard to Ashworth who is obviously a man driven by personal ambition and who we should have known would jump ship if an opportunity arose.
There can’t have been a very effective discussion in regard to the club and his role if the job isn’t what he believed it would be.
This season is our first major test under the new ownership so it’s not always going to run smoothly but getting rid of mercenaries like Ashworth will be a good step in the end.

If NUFC has to play compensation for a replacement they should not agree any deal until that is done. We paid circa £3m for him, if we have to pay this for his replacement then we can end up net losers here financially as well as losing the ‘asset’. That would be obscene. These clubs are not our friends, look at the £16m loan price for Lingard, we need to stop acting like they are & extract maximum value.
Also need to have some covenant on not coming back for Eddie or others (including players) or signing our top targets. Letting him join them pre summer without any of this in place would be very naive.
