On the subject of Pit, In Brawl, due to arrows not despawning when off screen, Japanese pit mains could loop multiple arrows, making these great combo extenders off of fair, nair, bair ect. leading to him being A tier on the japanese tier list
Footstool combos with Brawl Pit also gave him access to high powershield punish damage in a game where a lot of characters had to settle for a single hit plus a mixup to follow. Even so, he has the same issue as Peach where he's extremely inconsistent and at the mercy of the matchup.
It's funny how Brawl being so unbalanced means that even Brawl top tiers like Olimar and Diddy happened to be stronger in 4 or Ultimate.
Brawl is about as balanced as Melee, if not balanced better. Brawl MK in 2014 had the same top 100 representation as Melee Fox in 2024.

Technically he was low tier in pre patch ultimate
Id actually argue lucas in ultimate is better since his neutral is much stronger with universal jumpsquat changes, his aerials being better, and double jump cancel zair existing. His combo game is good still, even if its not that broken, and his advantage state is enough to make up for it. Even not considering a lot of busted theoretical tech, lucas is very good underrated in this game.

Learned from the fantastic brawlternative video on pokemon trainer/ivysaur: there are literally no other grass/water type moves from other characters to counter squirtle and charizard besides another pokemon trainer while there are like 2 dozen fire type moves XD

I disagree with Olimar, he is so so good in Brawl. Olimar is the third best character in the game, before SS-tier Meta Knight, and S tier Ice-Climbers, with an infinite chain grab on every character. Olimar is ranked third best in the game, and his recovery is still exploitable and not very strong, how can he still be this good?? Having six Pikmin is super strong, he can camp extremely effectively and can box/approach, has strong kill options, and a super disjointed blue-pikmin grab that can kill very early. His down-b has huge invincibility, and his frame data and damage output is insanely good !!! Olimar is really good and well-rounded in ultimate , but he is BROKEN in Brawl
I do recall Olimar being way better than people gave him credit for. Even I was able to pull off his super armored down B sometimes despite being more casual. Plus I found Olimar way more "Fun" in Brawl for the same reasons Larry mentioned (his Up B being a tether that was also a great powerful diagonal spear, which is really rare in Smash bros and having 6 pikmin just allowed for a lot more variety in his moves.) I get why they reduced it to 3 with greater emphasis on the pikmin type (mostly due to 8 player mode being playable with so many active characters running around), but it kind of went against the point of Pikmin, where they have thier strengths, but the numbers is where they shined most. Also WInged pikmin is a lousy recovery, but I personally think they should've had both. if he uses recovery on the ground or after he exhausted the pink pikmin, he uses the pikmin chain, but otherwise, he uses pink pikmin. Also allowing him to cancel the pinks to use chain would be a nice touch too by simply pressing up B again. (I'm also disappointed they didn't make all the captains playable in Smash Ultimate... like why just Alph? Alph technically isn't even the 'main character" of pikmin 3. he's just the first one you play as, but Brittany is kind of the one who drives the story and Charlie is the Captain. Still love him though, but they really could've made all of them playable like they did Bowser Jr and the Koopalings.)

Yeah, his back airs in Smash 4 and Ultimate have the same hitbox size. It’s just that for Ultimate it was reanimated to match.
Brawl Pit is his best iteration by far he was just unknown outside of Japan, country in which he was considered top 15
Also on a personal note, I kind of missed when he was a serious captain of the army and had this really respectable aura about him. I mean KIU Pit that translates into Smash 4 and Ultimate had his funny moments, but I guess I'm not AS huge a fan of making him a complete idiot.... I kind of like Dark Pit better personality wise as a result, especially after realizing he's more an anti-hero than just "evil Pit". XD
In Brawl Little Mac is an assist trophy making Brawl his worst version as he is playable in smash 4 and ultimate

Correction: the best Ike is brawl Ike, because he received the biggest nerf in smash history in ultimate, that being the removal of his backflip animation when jumping backwards
You know i really like the idea of pokemon being weak to certain type of attacks depending on their type but id like it only between each other . Like pikachu would hurt squirtle more but pk thunder wouldnt that way pokemon would be very interesting to play against each other
Yeah, with Smash 4 introducing some new mechanics from outside Smash like Robin's Mana system and Megaman and Villager's really unique fighting styles, I'd have liked if the elements did a bit more. It always fascinated me how Ice Climbers were the only character who could "freeze" opponents and technically Smash's version of "Poison" was "Flowering". but at least there was something, like fire moves instantly causing explosions and electric moves have a unique stun property and of course, Water doing no damage but being a push box which like Fox's non stunning laser, had some interesting applications with pushing back recovering opponents without resetting their recovery.
It doesn't say much when the worst versions of characters in Ult are decent enough and much better than worst versions in any other game. Icies, Rosa, ZSS, and many more characters are still good though the DLC, Balance changes, and meta evolving affected them

That is extremely hard to do tho. You won't see it as often is in Smash 4
I agree with Lucas. The down throw in Smash 4 was pretty easy for him to get combos started and kill confirms, as well as neutral air always sending the opponent in front of him, making it a bit easier to combo off of it. And Brawl being the worst is kind of obvious.
You can definitely do one more video in this series comparing the Smash 4 newcomers to their Ultimate counterparts. I know the majority of which of those characters is better or worse is pretty clear cut, but it would still be a fun watch IMO.

As a Dedede main who just recently got Brawl but hasn’t played it yet, I can agree with dedede brawl being the best.

Definitely agree with this Lucas take. DJCZ is an incredibly powerful combo tool in ultimate, but not entirely consistent, and hard to pull off. Even after being nerfed, Smash 4 Lucas could still perform footstool combos, that made him pretty easy to pick up.

Mewtwo is accually good in Ultimate. While the airmonemtum is not as good. He has some very good moves that can combo, and also kill very early. Solid recovery. Not to mention if you count Final Smash, Mewtwo has a pretty broken one.

The real reason why he's ending the series here is because there were no new Star Fox characters added after Brawl for the thumbnail
If we don't count prepatch versions, here are other rankings
Zss: best: your answer was prepatch smash 4, and even after the patch is still her best version
Wario: best: your answer was ultimate before patch 11.0.0, after the patch is more debatable between brawl and ultimate
Ike: best: you said prepatch ultimate was the best version, if we don't count that, then it's brawl, which is not that good, but still his best version if we don't count prepatch versions. Worst: you said that ike's worst version was smash 4 in the 3ds era, after the buffs, i think it's still smash 4
Diddy kong: best: you said prepatch smash 4 was the best version, but even whit the nerfs, smash 4 is still the best version.
Worst: you said prepatch ultimate was the worst version of diddy kong, if we don't count that, his worst version is still smash ultimate, but that's not saying much as the character is top 9 after the buffs
Olimar: best: you said that prepatch ultimate is the best version of the character, after the nerfs, the best version of the character became brawl which is a top 3 character
Toon link: best: you said that toon link's best version was smash 4 in the vanilla 3ds version, after the nerfs, i actully can't tell what his best version is, i guess brawl because it's the highest tiered version out of the 3, but I still can't decide

Guy had Melee Roy hitboxes
for toon link, it almost feels like cheating to count the smash 4 version where he could cancel hitstun, I would lean towards choosing brawl. Even though he never top 8'd a major, he had a solid matchup spread (minus meta knight) and actually did really well vs icies (relative to a lot of the cast)
I loved Brawl Toon Link and mained him. Though as a more casual player myself, it was mostly cause it felt like most characters who were vets (from Melee/64) felt notably worse than the new characters. I generally did really well with Brawl Toon LInk when playing with school friends. I wanted to main Sonic but just wasn't as good with him as I would be in Smash 4 3DS. I just need to play more since my favorite character is apparnetly top tier in Ultimate and I'm so rusty my controller is flaking dust...

Brawl may be the worst Sonic tier list wise but he's easily cooler than any other game in the series

Sonic has always been my favorite because of how much Sega went out of thier way to make every appearance of his a spectacle. I mean the dude literally saves EVERY Nintendo character from being wiped out by Taboo in the 11th hour. That was MAXIMUM respect!

You know. With the amount of hate Sonic gets in Ultimate I thought he was gonna be a low tier and ultimate to be his worst iteration. But that was before smash ultimate had a tier list. So I’m wondering why people hate him in the game. I’m sure glad one of my favorite fictional characters of all time that being Sonic is one of the best characters in the game.
As a long time Sonic fan I can tell you, 99% of the hate he got is simply because he's "Sonic" and had nothing to do with his skill level or placement. People were literally saying they WANTED Sonic to be bad because they just found the "character" annoying. It actually took quite a lot of effort for the Sonic mains to really put some spotlight on Sonic, but even then, you still have prominent players wishing that Sonic was worse simply cause again, they don't like the character. not because anything's wrong with his kit or skills.
But yes! I smiled ear to ear when Larry said "Sonic is arguably the second best character besides Steve" cause I feel Sonic has been sh8t on WAY too long (in general) and really deserves a lot more respect for what he means to a lot of gaming fans.
Smash Bros Sonic's hatred comes from the fact that he's really good at what he does, and it isn't fun to fight against him.

Wario loses to Ganon in Brawl... every character can grabn release wario and get a follow up because of his stupid up ward release from grab and since grab release are dependent on where the characters feet are in brawl. every tall character (and Yoshi) can grab release wario and follow up or chain grab him. Wario is a fraud of a top tier in Brawl
Wario does not lose to Ganon in Brawl. Wario has a chain grab on Ganon, which I'm pretty sure is a death combo if done properly, so that match up is just grab Ganon 3 times and you win. Ganon has a grab release infinite, but you have grab Wario(which is not easy at all) at a percent where you can pummel and he can't break out with a ground release and you also need to make sure there's no platforms. It can be a surprisingly hard match up, but Wario easily wins if the player knows how to do the down throw chain grab.
I don't even think many people confidently have ever considered Wario a top tier(maybe in the beginning I guess), he's mainly seen as a high tier.
One grab does it all. Plus other lower tiers can do it to Wario too but worse they can actually follow up… like Falcon and Zelda. Back you were still called DEHF for some reason. The only top Warriors I’ve seen consistently were Abadango who’s from japan. A very young Gluto who’s french. Poli who’s Mexican. Almost every Notth American Wario never mained him because all the Marths and Snake who just consistently gatekeep wario… 12 year old me didn’t care tho I was cheering for Mew2King in Brawl and Melee… 😂
I know in smash ultimate wario Pokémon trainer Rob and wolf would only be a top tier in this game sorry toon link and lucas

Snake was considered 2nd best in the earlier years of Brawl, but has since dropped to the 5th-6th range in tier lists once his disadvantage state become more exploited and even more busted stuff (ICs, Diddy, Olimar) was discovered.
None of sonic's versions are good they're all completely trash binned hell.

Lmao Brawl has way more worst version of characters. Mario, Link, Samus, Fox, Pikachu, Captain Falcon, Jigglypuff, Peach, Sheik, Ganondorf, Pokemon Trainer, Sonic, ROB, Wolf worst version are easily Brawl.
