- Arena is a popular AoE2 map and has brought us many exciting tournaments. This tournament I followed mainly the later stages, and I wanted to get the final to you all. DauT comes into the final having not lost a game yet, and Slam makes it after breezing past the likes of TaToH and more!

The main reason I'm a big fan of DauT is his longevity, almost 20 years of competitive play non-stop and still doing some amazing tournaments.

Ive never doubted Daut. The smartest player imo.
Ive played AoE 2 many years ago and Chinese are my favorite civilization mainly because of their Chu-Ko-Nu. Theyre nuts when it comes to battling cavalry or destroying buildings
Little known fact: Sicilian light cav wins handsomely against spears. Infact FU Sicilian light cav in castle age wins against FU pikemen.
But can they win against knights?
@@volition142 They cannot. In fact, they struggle versus strong archer an knight civs, and really only show their strengths when they can force an opponent into making counters.
@@rovsea-3761 Who would even care about the light cav vs knights scenario anyway though, the fact that enemy pikes lose half of their effectiveness is massive

Is it cost effective for the light cav player to take that fight tho? It's like saying paladins beat halbs in equal numbers, which they do. But is it worth it for the paladin player? Not at all, the halb player will always outlast

I remember Teuton "death star" TCs, they had like 15 range and could take down castle in under a minute.
They used to have bracer so it was 8+7 range?

The point that T90 makes at 1:10:00 ish is so underrated. If more entertainers had this understanding of what their job is. T90, I love watching you while I wind down to my afternoon nap every day (I only sleep 4-5hrs at night for various reasons, so do a nap every day). Arabia games are my favorite and you and Dave casting together are my second. Keep it up!

Consider maybe adding dead air on the end, since it was easy to tell the final score after 2-1 by looking at video length.
There are problems with CZcams algorithm and video monetization with this.

He’s been in tournaments for almost 10 years
balancing from the top down is a must in this kind of game. simply because at low skill levels there wont be a time where having an upgrade or an attack come in 20 seconds early will decide a game. from personal experience, at low skill levels in RTS games the person that can make the most army consistently wins. composition even is not on the forefront, simply having a consistent stream of units will win eventually, because players are so inconsistent that mostly their eco cant handle creating more units consistently.

@31:38 this is late but now with all the patches, Sicilians with the regular built nomad tc should in theory be fine since they can build successive tcs so fast. Even if they don't get it immediately, they can catch up quite well in the mid game. Serjeants are also rly resistant to archers so even though they're infantry, with upgrades they can tank a tc shot or even a few. Farm bonus helps conserve wood since it isn't so frequently you're spending wood to refresh farms.

Yes, on Steam the AoE2 Definitve Edition is what you want to get, its the newest and best version of the game

I not only fully agree about the university placement in the first game, but I think that daut should have moved the relics to the back while he was still booming since that monastery was right on where the front line was going to be

I hate to say it but Slam really makes HUGE errors in tournaments. Like after the first game his performance just got worse and worse.
He really threw game 4 by killing his own ram, that ram would've made all the difference in that push.

anyway you could add 30-60 minutes of dead air at the end so we wouldn't know how much time is left? started game 4 with 45 minutes left and daud up 2, so it telegraphs that daud is going to win, with the remaining time life. Love your commentary!
That would be nice. In the meantime, there's a Chrome extension called "Hide CZcams Progress Bar"
There are problems with CZcams algorithm and video monetization with this.

It's always easier to stand by and think, but I think it happens a little too often that they are careless in not defending their cannons, catapults and trebuchet. They use mostly lousy light cavalry instead of knights. They use pikemen far too seldom to protect against horses that threaten archers. And why do they not guard their base better with swordsmen for example so that battering frame can not easily go in and destroy castles and other important buildings. But it's entertaining to watch.
I never realized i didnt have def edition. I bought it right before they released def. edition haha :'(

It would be nice if T90 added extra time to these, so the outcome wouldn't be so obvious after 3 games based on the time remaining in the video. Memb does this, but I prefer T90's commentary.
T90 annoys me but hes still the best aoe caster I want to like memb he keeps it real but hes to loud or somthing idk

Am I the only one who was mildly shocked that Slam didn't get Torsion Engines for his bombard cannons in game #2? In my (extremely low-level) experience, TE bombards slaughter skirmishers and repair villagers, and I feel like it should have been the obvious play.
Am I overrating Torsion Engines, or was it just too expensive?
Spending several bombard cannons' worth of gold just to kill more cheap Byzantine skirms when he rarely had more than three bombards on the field at once probably wasn't worth it.

It's really frustrating watching pro games where they just don't understand civ matchups. Italians should never lose vs Khmer once the game goes past 35 minutes, once you get to onager pike vs khmer you've pretty much won. They have no counter besides making their own halb onager, and then italians have bbc.
If you can just not die and get to onager, you should win every time.
Cumans hard counter Turks in arena. I've only lost to turks as cumans once and that's because it went into post imp where Turk Calvary Archers and Hussars are better than Cuman Kipcheks and Hussars.

You can't autoscout on HD. It's a DE feature.

@@tiancheng8549 Yes, but full upgraded hussar +2 attack is still an unbalanced benefit in the long run. Devs changed the relic bonus because from data Lithuanian had a big w/l curve in long games.

@@tiancheng8549 Relic bonus take place in castle age when it's usually reccomended knight over light cav. The first are ready to go while the second need more upgrades to be effective. Usually light cav are used just to snipe monks. In early imperial age it's reccomend to upgrade knight lines over light cav for tank purpose. The use of hussar before late imperial is situational and an average +2 attack doesn't change the scenario so much.

Slam is a BF boomer, I like him, but he's far from being a top tier player currently.
Slam always does amazingly in the 1vs1 ranked ladder though, the problem is that it never translates into tournament wins. Keep in mind, this is pretty much the best performance Slam has ever had in a tournament, he beat frigging Tatoh and the greatest arena clown in DE Modri. But otherwise, Slam always crumbles under pressure when prize money is on the line.
