Curious to see what I look like without a pirate patch AND want to see my first racing drone build? czcams.com/video/RPyFPvioKXg/video.html
You're welcome 😉✌
oh, here i am thinking you didn't take your props off on the bench and lost an eye
Haha that would’ve made for an epic story 😂😂
@@dcliffe8539Damm that's f up😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂
Check all connections with a multimeter before plugging in. Short stopper will prevent your drone from catching fire but multimeter will find the short before you blow it up. 😊
Thanks mate!
My first drone build was a brushed little carbon frame, with those king Kong 55mm props. About 6 years ago. Shortly after I got a brushless carbon frame, happymodel crazy bee board, 1103 8000kv, and 65mm props. I still have that drone, hanging on my wall, fully built and ready to go. I just can't bring myself to fly it. I almost want to get one of those butterfly display cases and keep it forever. FPV has changed my life, in all seriousness. I now have about a dozen custom builds, about 4 bind and fly, and I'm shooting my first cinewhoop real estate video tomorrow. On a 4,000sq foot beautiful Florida home. Amazing landscape, very nice interesting interior. Can't wait to get going on this next journey
Thanks for the comment! That’s really cool to hear your story! congrats on getting into real estate!!!
It’s really cool knowing that FPV is changing lives, can’t wait to hear more of your stories! ✌️
Not "Mistakes", just Learning Experiences. Only mistake would be not learning and repeating things over that cause you troube and pain. Great job getting your first DIY FPV drone flying!!
Tip: connect your Rx to a power pad that has power when you plug in USB (without battery connected). This will help you check and trouble shoot many issues via BetaFlight including the setup/configuration on your radio transmitter.
Hey appreciate that a lot! And thanks heaps for the tip too ☺️
Regarding wire strip length I find for small pads it is easier to strip the wire longer when tinning it, and then once tinned, snipping the tinned end to the correct length. Just make sure the remaining part of the wire is nicely tinned. This may be because I suck, but I find tinning a 2 mm length of exposed wire pretty difficult without burning up the insulation.
Arguably number 10 was not using a smoke stopper to test it after rewiring the drone.
That’s fair too, so far I’ve been lucking it 😅 Really should just buy one 😅
Thanks for sharing!
Hope the eye is good now.
Yes made. When building drones , we tend to do a lot of mistakes by every drone you make. Learning curve, then we become masters. Just for the love of this hobby.
Absolutely! I’m sure I’ll continue to understand more and more as my time goes on within FPV!
Ain't FPV great!!! Def agree about the startup song. I used the Simpsons. It lasted less then a week. Lol
Hahah yep! I guess we as humans have the need to learn the hard way sometimes 😂
As far as the 69 unit goes, personally I prefer the RX and VTX separate because if I break one or the other I only replace the one.
Oh no! You fried your VTX! That's exactly why I prefer them separate!
Soldering is a HUGE part of this hobby. Glad that you invested time into learning. It is EXTREMELY satisfying to me personally. Invest in a good iron. I have the Hakko FX888D and I love it. My first one was generic from Amazon and it just didn't stay hot enough and it was so frustrating trying to solder anything.
So glad that you got everything working. You learned a lot, and it cost you some money, but you can now build and fix quads - definitely worth it!
One little tip: instead of shrink wrapping anything, buy a roll of kapton tape. Shrink wrap is neat but when you have to remove it (by cutting it) it can be a PITA.
Hey dude, thanks for the comment! Definitely fair enough with the seperate VTx and Rx, will see how I go in the future 😅
I love all the new NZ fpv channels popping up! Really cool vid bro.
really great. makes me want to try it. i have zero zero zero background in building anything, even legos.
The Easiest FPV Drone Build Tutorial You'll Ever Watch
czcams.com/video/dw3J09RWsX8/video.html 😉
@@BrodieReed I had already watch that :) The solder part is what intimidates me. I may buy one of those practice pads first before I invest in the build components.
Good tips! Keep at it Brodie 👍
Thanks for watching! 🙂
This is why I do tiny whoops. A good AIO for a tiny whoop has a 4in1 esc, vtx, fc, and receiver. most of the time, they also have plug for the camera and motors.
Well you wanna stay a noob forever ?
Thank you so much!
Thank you for watching!
Great video, much of the tinkering is some of reason i love FPV and building drones, the feeling when it works is fantastic,,,, 😊
It sure is!!
Starting a «mistake video» with an eye patch, I’m dying 😂 Hope it’s not serious
Pretty ironic I do have to admit 😂
Awesome video! There sure is a lot to learn about drone building (and especially FPV racing drone building) but you have done a very good job for your first time. I have also had my fair share of issues with my race drones, which are almost identical to yours, but once you have 2, 3 or even 4 of these drones (like I do) It gets very hard to keep them all working, Hopefully you will continue flying FPV and I cant wait to see where you will go with this in the near future!
Thanks for the comment! It’s going to be a real fun adventure going forwards 110% 💯
Facts mate - all bar one of my quads are currently on the bench! 😞😅🤝
Building fpv copters is a very steep learning curve, mistakes will be made
Sure will be! Plenty more to come im sure 😅
It was even steeper back in the days (2012)😓
Now it’s a lot easier, thanks to better tech and available information online. Any mistake you make now there is someone out there that had done it too making troubleshooting a lot easier. Don’t let me get started on the miracles the open source community has done for us in the years. Those guys are heroes.
another mistake: dont file down carbon fiber inside. the powder that is created by that is reeeeeeealllly bad for your lungs. if you have to file down carbon fiber do it outside and with a mask on
Thanks for the tip ✌️ will keep that in mind next time!!
The carbon fibers themselves are also electrically conductive. A small fiber left sitting on the PCB could short out the board. IMO, avoid filing down carbon fiber if possible or clean everything very thoroughly afterward.
you can use plane esc soldered directly to flight controler for planes ....
Lol, all my drone have start up song😁.. could be another mistake to power up a new drone without a smoke stopper and if you apply conformal coating on electronic, remember no to seal your VTX's microphone and barometer. I use 400c-450c for soldering with flux on power cable and ESC pad.
Loving following you on your journey Brodie. Quit screwing up aye? :) Thanks once again.
Awh man, can’t promise that 😅😅
Startup tunes are okay if they are SHORT. Mine is currently the zelda box open sound, and even that is a little bit long for me...
I actually prefer running separate VTX and RX since when one fails you can replace it individually. The most common failure I’ve experienced is u.fl connectors ripping off. But most VTXs eventually fail as well. It’s definitely a tradeoff between cost, convenience, and replaceability tho.
That’s super understandable! I think from a Sixty9 POV it’s really ideal as it costs less than both seperate Rx and VTx and can be swapped out super easily by unplugging the old and then plugging in the new! (For those that like to solder and are good at it this doesn’t make much difference haha).
Thanks for watching!
Fantastic advice, I replace vtx’s like bloody props sometimes 😅 ( obviously a slight exaggeration 😂👍 )
In 45 years of electronics project work I have never used extra flux. Buy the correct quality solder and you will never need it. Solder joints coming off or coming loose is the result of not enough heat. Your solder iron tip should be in contact no more than 2 seconds to bond a wire etc. If your solder does not melt in the time your iron is too cold. I've been a Ham radio Op since 1996 and built a ton of projects. The skills needed in FPV came naturally for me. Just remember flux is conductive. Toothbrush and alcohol must be used to scrub off the excess around the joints.
That’s fair enough, each to their own on the use of flux.
I’ve just found personally that since I’ve started using it it has made soldering significantly easier 🙂
I’m in the hobby for a long time, and been soldering for a long time, started using flux last year. Can’t hurt :)
I was waiting for the part where you were going to tell us not to fly into your eye with your quad ;)
That’s golden, might have to make that my origins story or something 😂😂
@@BrodieReed gotta lotta time for your sense of humour brother 👍
You’d do well in the career I had in the Corps mate 🤝😎
Thanks mate 😂
@@BrodieReed 😃✊👍
I loved you in austin powers
Just a note here too, those stack nuts (the top ones) are probably not on far enough - it looks to me like the nylon on the nuts might only just be coming into play and they'll likely loosen off with vibration. You might be able to get away with it if you check them after every flight - but worth noting. Get longer stack screws if you think you need them.
Thanks mate, may very well need to get slightly longer screws I think!
That’s well spotted and great advice to give the lad 👍🤝
What’s with the eye patch.Iam new to this channel and Iam curious.
Your a smart young man though
Last comment from your number one stalker.... I hope that the eye patch is only in place for vision correction surgery and that you're all good.
Unfortunately I’ve got a bit of an injury that has knocked me out of work and driving.. Now just waiting surgery which might be in the next 2-3 weeks hopefully🤞 The whole health system is pretty backlogged currently
@@BrodieReed Heal up well.
*its gonna hurt you inside* Ahhh yes. i know what you mean. i got star wars imperial theme.. and its slowly getting annoying. i wanted to switch back to the og sound. but i cant since the esc's wont work anymore then LOL
Is your right eye blind? If so, how do you manage to use the FPV goggles? (eye compatibility)
It was temporarily, but have had surgery now 😊
@@BrodieReed Take care, happy flying brother.
@@rohitrajasekar1334 You too my man ✌
What are the differences between a racing drone and freestyle? What happens when you mix them?
From what I understand, racing drones are built to go as fast as possible and be as manoeuvrable as possible. That usually means smaller and lighter frames/parts, when compared to a freestyle drone. There are a few other smaller things here and there but thats the main of it I believe ✌️
Weight
@@TheCivildecay and durability
@@thirtythreeeyes8624 both have to to be damn durable :)
True that 😅
Dude, file the carbon outside next time, you don't want to breathe any of that dust.
What doesn’t kill you makes you stronger right? 😅😅 Kidding but yeah I do appreciate that thanks mate
Yes you made a lot of noob mistakes as I did, but we live and learn. Now, try not to let your drone send you to a hospital to get 2 of 12 needed stitches (because there wasn't enough flesh to stitch to) on your knuckle costing about $1000. 😀
Oh dear 😅 I'll do my best to avoid that one haha
what happened to your eye?
What happened to your eye?
Long story short, I required surgery after injuring it at kickboxing training ✌️
"Guy-ro interference"
my startup song is the better call Saul theme. (Everyone at the whoop race gives me weird looks, but it's worth it.)
Haha the classic
