    Lisa Au was born July 25th, 1962 in Honolulu, to Chester and Patrice Au. Known to be hardworking and intelligent, Lisa’s loved ones described her as “beautiful”, “pleasant” and “always a happy girl with big dreams”. After leaving school, she began working as a hairdresser at the Susan Beers Salon in Kailua, a small town on the island of Oahu. She was expected to go far in life and her family believed that a bright future lay ahead of her - but, tragically, all of that promise was taken from her one rainy night.

  • @Terri_MacKay

    So, we know that on the night that Lisa was killed there was a police officer on the road who...
    1. lived near Lisa
    2. had pulled another woman over that night for questionable reasons
    3. had a pending sexual assault complaint against him
    I'd say that doesn't look good, especially when, despite all that, he was never considered a serious suspect. And to this day, it doesn't sound like he's ever been investigated thoroughly enough to definitively exclude him.
    As for Lisa's boyfriend failing his polygraphs, I wouldn't even take that seriously. They are so notoriously unreliable that the results aren't even admissible in court. And it's no wonder that he feels responsibility over her murder. He's spent years carrying the guilt of not driving her home, and putting her in the position that allowed her killer to target her. That kind of guilt can eat away at someone for years.

      even if he did kill her alot of officers get away with horrible crimes just by turning over their badge like a get out of jail free card.

    • @Terri_MacKay
      @Terri_MacKay Před rokem +7

      @@manofmagic1803 Oh, I know, believe me. Over the last 10-ish years in our (Canadian) city there have been a few high profile cases of officers who were convicted of crimes. However, even if an officer is convicted of a crime, they doesn't automatically lose their job. They still have to appear before the police disciplinary board. So, what these cops and their lawyers did was to keep delaying that hearing for one reason or another, usually because of stress or some other mental health issue caused by having to appear before the board. The problem is that here in Ontario, police chiefs do not have the authority to suspend an officer without pay (police chiefs in all other provinces and territories can). So, these officers drag out the delays on the hearings, until they can retire. Then, they're no longer cops, so they don't have to appear before the board, and thst hearing never happens.
      The issue, the very BIG issue that the public (and the decent cops) have with this is that during that time that they're delaying their hearing, they're collecting full pay, getting yearly raises, getting full benefits, accumulating sick time and vacation pay, and they're being credited for all that time. So, in these 3 particular cases, they delayed their hearings for YEARS!! And all that time was considered working time, so they just delayed and delayed until they had accumulated enough "working time" to retire with a full pension and benefits. And, as an added bonus, if you're a public servant, you can save up your sick days, and "cash them in" when you retire. Some cops never take any sick pay if they get sick and have to miss work, they just accumulate years and years of it, then get the money for it when they retire.
      You can see where the public have a few problems with this system. The cop has already been found guilty in a court of law, so they know that the police board hearing isn't going to go in their favour. The have no incentive to have the hearing where they'll be fired, and only eligible for a partial pension, or possibly no pension at all...but they have every incentive to delay that hearing until they've accumulated enough time to retire with a full pension.
      Taxpayers pay their salaries, and we paid out about $500,000 to each of these cops...their salaries for the years they just sat at home, plus the sick pay they'd accrued, plus the health benefits they'll receive for the rest of their lives.
      Taxpayers HATE the fact that public servants can accumulate their sick pay and cash it out when they retire. It doesn't even make sense. Sick pay is there for when you get sick while you're working, and have to take time off. If you want to accumulate it "in case" something happens while you're still working, like a serious illness, a serious injury, or you need surgery, that's fine. But once you've retired, and are no longer working, it just doesn't make sense that you're entitled to that money. It's not money thst was deducted from your pay, it was never your money that your employer was holding back in case you needed it. It was a benefit of the job, that your employer would pay you sick time, and I believe that, depending on the job, you could be entitled to 2 or 3 days a month. At the low end, that's 24 days a year, and if you work for 30 years, that's 720 days of pay...basically 2 years...of sick pay that you could have accumulated if you never took it while you worked. And you get it all at the pay scale you were earning at retirement, so your highest salary. No kidding that people who are working jobs where they get no sick pay, or jobs that no longer cover basics like housing and food, since the prices of both have gone through the roof here in the last few years (we're now one of the most expensive cities in Canada to live, and there are tent encampments all over the place), and their taxes are paying for these huge sick time payouts.
      The police chiefs of Ontario have been asking the Provincial government for years, decades, to give them the power to suspend officers without pay while waiting for police board hearings, and for some reason, no matter which of the 3 parties is in power, they refuse to grant them that. In other provinces, if an officer appears before their police board and is found not liable or not guilty, they do receive the pay thst was withheld while they were suspended, and that time does count toward days worked. And that system incentivized officers to want their hearings to happen as quickly as possible, because they're not receiving any pay while they're waiting around.
      Sorry for the rant. I saw your comment, and it just set me off, because I remember the smug faces of those 3 officers appearing in the paper or online every few days while their cases were ongoing...or not going on.

      A few years ago, a couple EMTs were charged with murder in our city for the way they responded to a call about a man who had been shot. They showed up on the scene, and refused to believe that he'd been shot. All the bystanders were telling them that he'd been shot, and where. Because he wasn't bleeding very much, they started bullying him, and telling him that he was fine. They told him that if he wanted to go to the hospital, then he had to walk to the ambulance himself. They never examined him, except to look at the spot on his clothing where he'd been shot, and decided that there was too little bleeding for it to be anything serious. They didn't even pull his clothing back to look at the spot on his body.
      He was bleeding internally, and he died. He was East Indian.
      I know that EMTs aren't police, but, like police, if you call them because you need their help, you are literally putting your life in their hands.

    I would just like to take a moment and thank you, Cold Case Detective team, for creating such a model channel. It is very apparent to me that you strive to be respectful to victims and supportive of those that they have left behind. I really appreciate that you bring attention to cases like this one, that many people don't usually talk about, in an effort to support the family and loved ones. I also really appreciate that you never sensationalize or make light of anything that a victim endured, like some other channels do. I continue to be surprised that you don't have more subscribers, but please know that you are a model for true crime and investigative channels. I'm always excited to see a new video from y'all.

    • @nanyahime
      @nanyahime Před rokem

      The boyfriend is obviously suspicious but there are things which don't match the boyfriend theory.
      1) They're not married and there doesn't seem to be any baby coming. There's really no need to kill the girl, so unlikely it would be a planned murder.
      2) They were fighting at a restaurant with eyewitness. Usually, if it were the boyfriend it would be a crime of passion but doesn't seem like the case.
      3) Time for murder. I mean the boyfriend returned to the dorm afterwards and there should be people who witness him at the dorm so he wouldn't have time to deal with the body.
      The police theory on the other hand is more likely. Here's why:
      1) The window was half drawn (usually wouldn't be the case if it were a person familiar like the boyfriend).
      2) The girl left her ID when she wrote a check at a shop. When she failed to present her ID, the police might order her to open the car door with the excuse he needed to examine something (for example). Since Lisa just got her license, she might not be familiar with the regular protocol and did as was told. He then tried to or sexually assaulted her in her car, cleaned the vehicle (crime scene) and took the bag for some reason and dumped the body. He later noticed it would be suspicious for her to be without her bag so placed the bag back later.

    Sounds like a cop or someone pretending to be a cop. Car on the side of the road? She must’ve been pulled over. Window half way down? She must’ve rolled it down to talk to the officer. If it was any other reason why roll down your window in the torrential rain? Purse dry? Must’ve taken it with her when he asked her to step out of the vehicle. Young women don’t pull over, roll down their window in the rain and leave with someone in the middle of the night on their way home unless it’s an authority figure. Her car had no mechanical issues either so it has to be police or someone pretending to be police.
    Edit: I have seen many people recommend, even police officers themselves as there are those who impersonate officers say this: if you are alone and someone is trying to pull you over, do not stop. Let them know while staying in your locked vehicle with windows up that you will drive to X location and talk with them there. Pick a busy, well lit spot with cameras. If possible phone someone and inform them of your situation. Video call them during the event. Record it. Whatever you need.

    This comment is to feed the algorithm monster. 👍
    Turns out it likes munching on comments, replies and likes to both. 🤯
    Why not spread some positive vibes, give it a snack and then watch the channel grow?💗🌱👍

    How does a body decompose in only 10 days? Unless, in 1982, forensics weren't that advanced yet.

      Good question. I can only assume it's because of the Hawaiian heat and humidity, I've heard of similar rates of decomp happening in the south like Florida, Louisiana

      It’s literally Hawaii dude decomp can start within HOURS in hot & humid environments. Check some of the personal stories from the Jonestown cleanup crew. They arrived THE NEXT DAY and the experiences of scraping bodily fluids mixed with maggots off of the ground is…. Very vivid

      I'd say 10 days in that sort of climate is plenty to cause advanced decomposition.
