- Before immigrating from Laos, Keng Yang's father and uncles hunted to survive. However, growing up in urban America, Keng found himself conflicted with his culture’s history of subsistence hunting - and hunting in general. Only through time spent connecting with his community, their food, and experiencing the camaraderie found within the pursuit of wild game, did Keng learn to see hunting in a new light.
Instrumental in Keng’s evolution as a hunter was the love he found for a bird dog named Kaiya. In fact, it was Kaiya who eventually tipped the scales and inspired him to fully embrace an important part of his culture; the part he previously rejected. This is the story of Keng and Kaiya.

That brings back a lot of memories... growing up in Iowa. I didn't hunt over a dog, until my late twenties. Then, I lucked out and someone gave me a pup. The second time he ever retrieved a gamebird, he surprised me with a multiple bag, bringing me three quail in his mouth all at once. His mouth stuffed with feathers, he sat in front of me, grinning ear to ear. I was so astonished, I couldn't even say, "Good boy." A remarkable hunter and friend for 12 years. Those were the days.

It is amazing how a dog can change a person/family without saying a word. If you don’t know this, open your eyes/heart and close your mouth.

Son has a Chocolate lab. Never trained. Rainer figured it out. You flush a bird and bring it back after shot, you get a treat. That dog was born to hunt.
