Honda CB650R vs. CB750 Hornet - Bigger difference than you thought!

  • Same manufacturer, same vehicle class, similar price and yet so very different? Our test on the Croatian coastal roads revealed surprising differences between the Honda sisters. While the Hornet with its newly developed engine and chassis is a real guarantor of riding fun on the country road, the CB650R is a little more leisurely and quiet. It shines with precise, stable handling and its four-cylinder still exudes classic Japanese charm and the well-known value. We were on the road with the two Honda vehicles for two days.

All the reviews frown on the Cb650r but anyone who rides them loves them, that’s why I bought one. You gotta keep the revs high and stay in the power band. It’s a different riding style than the 2 cylinder bikes where you have less room to the redline and lots of torque down low. But I don’t want low down torque in the city bc it’s too jerky.

I drove the cb650R through europe 6-7000km for 3 weeks. inline 4 8is fun when u have speed limits that are in the 80+km an hour. then its fun. it comes to live when you closing in on the speed limits. and that is quite a bad thing unless you want to risk it. Not a good bike to pass other cars i felt like. because it takes about 1 sec before the power kicks inn. so you have to decide to drive fully agressive or just cruise. the hornet i feel like you can make quick desicions and be fine. because power kicks in early. just my two cents

Same here, albeit the CBR650R. I will admit though that at 6'4, the cramped knee angle and bent forward sporty riding position has me looking to change it for something larger with a more upright position. I like a good balance of torque and high RPMs. That's why I'm considering to get the new CB650R, now that they got rid of that horrible lcd. 😅

CB750- It's a Parallel Twin Cylinder engine. It has 2 big cylinders and is gonna make more power lower in the RPM and more torque kinda like a V-twin or Harley engine.
CB650- inline 4 cylinder engine makes less torque low down in the RPM and more power in the high RPM.
Most 4 cylinder bikes make more HP than 3 cylinder or 2 cylinder bikes with the same size engine.
      A 2024 kawasaki ZX636 makes 115hp-4 cylinder
KTM 990 super duke makes 120hp-2 cylinder
