For forever is the saddest song (aside from words fail) in the musical, because it’s Evan imagining and pretending what a friendship would be like
When I fully appreciated and understood that, it broke my heart!!
Super sad too to realize he is also re-imagining and restructuring the day he attempted suicide if he had been saved/helped by a friend

Long story short, This musical is really sad and stomped my heart into a million pieces
I look at it from a parents perspective. They had this son they lost literally and figuratively, and Evan is telling them these stories to make him better. For a parent to hear exactly what they needed when it wasn’t true is what’s heartbreaking for me. That culminated in words fail but here really gets him.
Hannah: I'm ok.

That’s the way I see it too, which I think is why it’s the finale and the melody that’s repeated so often throughout the show
Totally agree. It's so sad (because he is just utterly lonely and none of the things he is saying is true) and hopeful at the same time. I tear up every single time.
Alex Lacamoire is a powerhouse. He's arranged Hamilton, In the Heights, and Dear Evan Hansen. He's also done all of the arrangements for the DEH videos that they've done and the Hamilton cuts (First Burn, Found / Tonight, etc). He's just so talented, so I'm glad you gave him a shoutout at the end of the video also :)

About half way through their performance I thought this has got to be Alex arranging this. He weaves vocal arrangements like no one else in the game at the moment. He is simply a genius.
Evan was super good. I also liked how Evan blended so well with Evan. Evan also has a great range. Overall though, I think Evan was the best
That high harmony in "shines on my face" followed by how they all almost melt back into singing the same note in a very subdued in simple way.... I just replay that part over and over and over.

Sam Tutty is so incredible - he got cast as Evan straight out of drama school and won an Olivier for it! I feel very lucky to have seen him on the West End, and can't wait to see what show he does after DEH.
UGH I’m jealous. I’ve been in London for SIX MONTHS. And cannot wait to see him. Only got four months left here though... kinda scared that deh might not reopen by then...

@@doultondoll yess I’m trying to! Well according to the regulations they could reopen in May with reduced capacity and masks and stuff and some musicals have already announced that they are. I’m just “worried” cause deh is one of the few that hasn’t announced anything yet.
I got to see him before his debut, as Daniel on Once On This Island at the Southwark Playhouse. Just phenomenal. I think the week after that he got cast as Evan!

When she was getting excited in the first verse, I was like 'she ain't ready for Stephens high notes' she wasn't. No one was. I was lucky enough to see him on tour when they were in Atlanta! He remains one of my favorite Evans to this day.

To answer your question, Robert Markus was never on Broadway. He’s a very prominent actor on the Canadian musical theatre scene though. On top of being Evan in the too short lived Toronto production of DEH, he also did multiple seasons with the Stratford Festival (a very important Canadian Theatre/Musical Theatre festival). We love Robert 💙

Sam Tutty is definitely my favourite Evan after Ben, his depth and vibrato is just superb. Plus the fact he's British means he naturally has a stronger pronunciation of his consonants which I feel adds such a sense of vulnerability to his vocal.
The arrangement is the unsung hero here. It's an absolute triumph

Saw Sam Tutty in DEH again last week and he made me cry again multiple times. He is SO GOOD! Not only as a singer, but actor too. The way he plays anxious, socially awkward Evan is amazing.

this is by far the biggest smile i have gotten from a reaction video. this is by far my most favorite Broadway play.

Oh goodness....I hated it. I didn't shed a single tear. Robert was sub par, the dad growled every note, Zoe (understudy) was boring and sang the most exaggerated diphthongs I've ever heard (awful). Honestly, I was bored when I wasn't annoyed.

omgg i revisit this video every other day, AND EVERY DAMN TIME, I squeal and giggle with Hannah and my heart starts beating so fast and get goosebumps all over and my tiny brain gets blown up every time Stephen hits those godforsaken high notes (and to quote Hannah here) like they are NOTHING😩
I love the center section when they are climbing the tree and they are in the round. It so perfectly gives this feeling of anxiety mixed with a desire to throw caution to the wind and do something so far outside of his comfort zone. And then, they come back together during the soft part when the branch gives way and he falls and brings it back down; like Evan is coming back together.
And can we just talk about that perfect blend on the last note; four voices that sound like one. Amazing.

I saw Stephen Christopher Anthony in DEH in Salt Lake City THE NIGHT before Covid shut down the Tour. He was incredible and so happy we got to see it.

Hannah, I watch this all the time because of your reaction to this AMAZING rendition of "For Forever." This song, sung by these 4 artists, is so pleasing to the ear - the harmonies, the range, the blend - just, just, just . . .perfect! I am not a singer or performer. I'm just an admirer of music that hits me just right. Music that is interesting to my ear touches a place in my heart, mind and emotions. It brightens me and my often anxious and, at times, depressed self. And Hannah, you are delightful! Thank you for taking performances like this a notch higher. Incredible!
The way I swear I've seen this over like 20 times me and Hannah have the same reactions and she knows more about this then I definitely do but they just sound like angels and this never gets old I swear I come back to it at least twice a month plus Hannah is so fun to watch in the rest of her videos too

I just watched Sam tutty perform DEH last night on west end… he was phenomenal! This video doesn’t do his pure talent justice! His emotions, acting and pure singing ability was impeccable! I adore him now 😂

Robert Markus was Evan in Toronto, as well as a frequent regular actor in Stratford,ON. I've seen him in a couple shows and he is amazing. Last time I saw him he was in Startford as Riff Raff in Rocky Horror.
@Hannah Bayles Alex Lacamoire has been super busy the past several years, but he was co-arranger (and music director, orchestrator, and conductor on Broadway) for Hamilton. He was music supervisor for DEH, arranged First Burn (which you've also reacted to), he worked on The Greatest Showman... and more.
The way they all followed suit and hit those notes at the end was stunning

Robert was not in the Broadway cast! He is Canadian and was a regular in the Stratford Festival (a festival in Ontario that puts on multiple musicals and Shakespeare shows every summer) for years before playing Evan. I vividly remember him as Riff Raff the summer before playing Evan, and he was excellent! There are two other good videos of him on CZcams - one of him as Riff Raff (Time Warp - Richard O'Brien's The Rocky Horror Picture Show | Stratford Festival 2018) and one as Evan (DEAR EVAN HANSEN (Robert Markus) - Waving Through a Window (LIVE)).
I would pay money to see this live! Whoever arranged this is a genius!
