    I've had this camera for many years now and I am super happy with it. In terms of video quality, I am pretty sure that many smartphones can record better video, but only this camera can zoom in that far and still maintain clarity. I always bring this camera whenever I go sightseeing.

    • @CharestStudios
      @CharestStudios  Před 3 lety +8

      Yes, I agree. While some phones have good video it is so nice to have this zoom and also I find a video camera easier to use than a phone. I believe it probably has better stabilization than a phone as well.

    • @danbilotto7785
      @danbilotto7785 Před 3 lety +2

      i agree, the video quality is not so great for today standards, but the stabilization and zoom are excellent. the only cons that i have about it is that it tooks 8 seconds from opening of the lid to activate the recording process. in many cases, if you want to catch some unexpected scene it seems an eternity to start and you obviously loose the scene and you give up. for example the higher models like HC-V 700, 707, 720 ... they are ready in only 1 second and also the lens covers automatically opens because of the motorized system.

      @@jawlinejawlinejawline depends on what quality means and is acceptable for you. the 180 have very small sensor so in low light the video quality is blurry and lack in definition of details, also a major problem are drop frames - in very low light situations begins to stutter and freeze.

      @CharestStudios  Před 2 lety +2

      @@jawlinejawlinejawline It is fair. Any of the camcorders in the price range are fair to poor. I would say if you shoot a lot indoors invest is some nice lighting it would be cheaper and better than buying a larger sensor camera. I like these lights very much amzn.to/3rpMfNJ. I bought this camera 3 years ago and it was just gathering dust because I didn't know how to use it. The problem I had was every time I put the camera to record it would shut down after 30 seconds it was a new camera but it was frustrating so after downloading the pdf manual and not getting anywhere I left it gathering dust until I found Marcos's video. Now am going to use it Marco really explained how to really set up this great little camcorder.

    Great review! Btw for 1080p videos I would recommend you upscale&upload in 2.7K/4K. CZcams for some reason uses a much worse compression algorithm/bitrate for 1080p when it is uploaded in 1080p. It only recompresses with higher quality after videos reach a certain number of views.

    Hi, I have a question about the camcorder. I use the manual mode. However, the picture sometimes gets brighter and darker when I switch between very bright and dark areas than when the exposure is adjusted automatically? Whats the matter?

    • @CharestStudios
      @CharestStudios  Před 7 měsíci

      Hi. I'm not sure what could be the problem. When in manual mode the iris and shutter should be locked to whatever you set it at and the lighting should not change while recording. Mine does not change so I am not sure if your camera has a problem or there is some other setting effecting it. There is an auto gain setting in the recording set up but even with that on the lighting did not change for me in manual mode. Sorry I could not help figure out what the problem is.

    It’s like having a telescope in your pocket! Not the best video quality. The LCD screen looks better than after you you import into computer and edit. I’ve had it for years now and realized I can use my old IPhone 8 with external mic and shoot in the 4K setting. I use both cameras and still love my little handy cam. Problem is the IPhone is so much easier to share something right away and I have edited a bunch of videos with IMovie and shared right away. The footage actually looks more clear. The best thing about this camera is the zoom!

    Great video. I loved the footage of the fawn. :) I can't decide between the Panasonic HC V180 and the Canon CX405 - Both have powerful zooms and are similar prices. The main use will be filming aircraft at and around airports so a powerful zoom is necessary. Good stabilisation will also be important. Hmm, I'll have to have a think! Thanks again. Best wishes.

      Thanks! I have both the Panasonic and the Sony CX440 which is essentially the same as the 405 except it has on board storage. However, I think they are both great cameras so you really can't go wrong either way.

    What is the battery life for this camcorder? I record at many events throughout the year. I am looking for a new camera for recording that has good zoom. How does it do in low lighting? Also I read exporting video from the SD card to the PC requires another software, not sure if that is true? Is it simple drag and click?

    • @CharestStudios
      @CharestStudios  Před 3 lety +2

      I don't find the battery life bad at all but I would recommend getting a couple more with a charger to make sure you are covered. I got a deal on two after market batteries and a charger. I would say low light is fair. Most all of these budget camcorders have small sensors which don't do great in low light. Though it is not bad I would recommend getting some lights if you plan to film indoors a lot and want the best look you can get. I never tried exporting the videos from the camera. I always take the card out and put it in my computer. That works fine and you can use any software you like for editing. Hope that helps.

      No problem. I think it was mostly shot in AVCHD format but the MP4 looks good too. I probably should just shoot in MP4 since that's is what it ends up being anyway. I don't think there was too much visible difference between the two out of camera but I think you can tell the AVCHD was slightly better.

    Mine recorded continuous footage for 1 hour or longer (as one file) until about two months ago. Then it started chopping continuous recording into segments of random lengths. I can't figure out how the settings changed or how to go back to my old settings of over a year.
    Same 64 G SD cards, same everything, but it's not recording in one file any more.
    I've no editing program to join all the short files into one long one. Making me so frustrated to the point I'm tempted to throw away the camcorder! Nothing in the manual I can find about recording one continuous shot that the camera splits up into random lengths. A one hour video (that SEEMS to be recording as one file) ends up being for example 8 files of 2 minutes to 17 minutes each.
    Has anyone else had this problem and resolved it?
    I've changed every setting now multiple times, tried new SD card, more.
    The SD card memory is big enough, the cards were formatted on the camcorder, the battery is fully charged, it hasn't been dropped or mistreated.

      Hello. While this camera would do pretty well for your purpose, I believe you could find a good used camera for 100 dollars less that would be as good or better for your purposes. This cameras has an amazing zoom but you will not need much zoom for your type of videos. I have recently been researching and have bought a couple of older camcorders that are really good and some models also have the ability to plug a better external microphone in. A couple of models that I really like that do have the external microphone feature and that can sometimes been found for a 100 dollars or less on Ebay are www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-Digital-Camcorder-Vixia-HF-R500-w-Power-Adapter-No-SD-Card/193815937884? www.ebay.com/itm/Canon-VIXIA-HF20-32-GB-High-Definition-Flash-Media-Camcorder-Bundle-Charger/383865595795?_trkparms=aid%3D555021% There are more options like these older cameras as well but I feel that these are good models and despite there older I still think they would do very well for your purposes and you would be able to add a mic at some point for even better sound. The panasonic does have good sound but no external mic jack. The only thing about buying these older cameras is that you may have to buy fresh batteries for them because the batteries are so old. Sometimes you can get a great price on these. I looked up a couple for you but there are more to compare if you look around. I hope that helps. Let me know if you have any other questions. Best wishes.

      Yes, I really love this camcorder. I am not sure exactly how long the battery lasts. It seems pretty good but I would advise getting an extra to have charged so if you are filming and need to you can switch them out. I actually got two extra batteries and a charger .

    when you're showing the footage it looks like it was recorded with one of those Chinese cube like cameras that you get with cheap dash cams. Like... What ?

    • @CharestStudios
      @CharestStudios  Před rokem

      Did you check your CZcams player settings? If you set the at 1080 I think it looks really good. I have a number of video cameras from this price point and they are all about the same quality in my opinion. So you may want to look into more expensive cameras if this looks poor quality to you.

      @@CharestStudios yes i did... i am also watching this at 4k monitor... full screen... with highest resolution. Yes this is a thing with some zoom capability but the sensor i would guess isn't too big to capture enough of light or contrast. I guess i am just expecting too much. I need something to record for very long in high quality plugged in. And i am legit trying to avoid DSLR cameras as it's obviously expensive. I might get a cheap camera to take photos/record but with decent sensor on it as they do, however i do know it's not going to be easy to have them charge while being plugged in, and record at the same time. Markets today are full of software enhanced cheap small camera sensors. I was even looking to get a phone to do this job but that's also too wide of an angle and long distance detail is lost when moved or in distance. I am also thinking of something in a budget.

      @@RadekZielinski. I understand. Yes, I'm sure when this footage is watched on bigger screens in full size the image quality will definitely suffer. This is a very small sensor for sure. The DSLR's are quite expensive and so are the high end camcorders. That does not leave much but one thing comes to mind. The Osmo pocket. The old model can easily be found for under 200 dollars. I got one for 149.00 refurbished.The newer one does have a bigger sensor but the older one is 1/2.3 much better than the camcorder sensor. No zoom though. If you can get by without the zoom the Osmo pocket may be good for you.

However i think i will just stick to my cheap camera and record me saying the licence plate instead if i indeed have something happen. I thought the quality was pretty good but of course that is subjective. It also depends a lot on the setting and which recording mode. AVCHD is the best recording format. So if you have not tried it give it a try an that might improve quality.

      @CharestStudios  Před 2 lety

      @@chariesbergero9662 Yes, I would agree it would be less quality compared to the Iphone. I think you have the settings you have are pretty good so maybe just make sure to keep good lighting. The Iphone may have better image quality but the zoom on the camcorder is just so handy. It also depends on how you render after editing. Sorry your not that happy with it. It seems you really have to go up into the 4k camcorder world to get better than smart phone quality and good zoom. So I think this is a good choice unless or until you can step uo to something around a 1000 dollars. I also have the sony CX440 which is the same as the CX405 and I think the image quality might be a bit better than the Panasonic but the zoom is not as much. The Panasonic has timelapse though and the Sony does not.

    It's not 90 EX sir! The x used after ZOOM means simply "times". It refers to the capability of enlarging the widest angle image x times. Forget digital zoom values, only focus on optical.
