Review: 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro + Trailhunter - Are They Worth the Price Premium?

  • I go off-road in the 2024 Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro and Trailhunter to see what these two are like when they're used the way they're supposed to be. I also take a Limited on the road to see what this new iForceMAX hybrid powertrain is like on-road in the Tacoma. Overall, there's a lot to like, but unfortunately the major hurdle is the pricing, both for the engine upgrade and for the TRD Pro and Trailhunter trims. What do you think about the 2024 Tacoma TRD Pro and Trailhunter? Thanks to Toyota for bringing me out to San Diego and providing me with this opportunity to review these trucks!

    $63,900 before markups.
    Quick math:
    $6,400 down (10%)
    + tax and interest (7.64)
    60 Months Payment: $1260
    @12.5% of take home pay you should be earning $157,500 annually to be looking at this car (assuming the appropriate taxes are coming out of your paycheck).
    National average wage (US Census): $63795.
    Percentage making $150k annually: approx. 8.3%
    5 Year price increase Toyota Tacoma TRD Pro:
    2019 MSRP: $42,960
    2024 MSRP: $63,900
    49% increase
    Wage growth 2019-2024: 1.7% (Source: US Treasury)
    These price increases far outpace inflation and wage growth.
    Toyota is targeting 8% of total market. Or people who just want to act fiscally irresponsible.

    I think 58K tops would’ve been the most justifiable price… Since the Ranger Raptor falls at that price too (MSRP). I understand inflation and all that but 65K is a joke. 10k more you’re in a Tundra TRD Pro which.. Is probably done intentionally. Tundra is already overpriced and not selling. Make the tacoma (their best selling truck) overpriced and now the Tundra looks “more reasonable” at 75K.. I feel it’s all done on purpose.

    Great truck. Matt I am a long time subscriber since the early BRZ days. I’m trying to understand why your channel has experienced a lack of growth and engagement over the past couple years. How is this sustainable for you?

    • @MattMaranMotoring
      @MattMaranMotoring  Před měsícem +7

      Thank you for the longtime support. I could give a long answer but to try to keep it short, the channel growth has slowed (in my opinion) due to 3 main things: First and foremost is more competition, both from newer and better car channels and also just from people leaving CZcams for TikTok and other short form stuff. In short, too many videos and not as many viewers. Second, the algorithm changes have definitely made it harder to get views, and with hardly anyone using the subscriptions feed anymore, my fairly large amount of subscribers doesn't mean much anymore, less than 7% of my subscribers even see the thumbnail to each video I post. Third, the car market has sucked the past few years, with lack of supply being replaced by high interest rates and high prices, killing a lot of people's interest in cars and car shopping ever since 2020, and therefore reviews of new cars.
      To answer your question of how this is sustainable, I still get a decent amount of views from the 600+ reviews I've done over the past 12 years, and that combined with memberships, live-streaming and the trickle of new video views helps to keep me afloat, but just barely. If things don't improve I'll likely have to go part-time with this channel in the next year or so, maybe sooner, maybe later. We'll see how this year plays out.

      @1in7.8b Před měsícem +1

      @@MattMaranMotoringthanks for the detailed and honest response. I tend to agree with you and feel that the biggest issue is the algorithm. I sub to another channel called BrosFourrspeed and they have the exact same issue…their content is just not pushed by the algorithm. It’s very good content like yours. A part of me feels like once you get “flagged” by CZcams as content to not push, your chances of making it out of that are very slim. I am wondering if starting a second, fresh channel, is a potential solution. Basically a re-brand with a different approach to the same content. Anyways, just concerned since it would be a shame to see some of my favorite CZcamsrs slowly dissapear.
