The designation Super Stock has sure changed a lot. It would be interesting to compare the NHRA BOOK SPECS from the 1960s for factory Doge 426s , Ford 427s and Chev 427s to what is called Super Stock in this run off, they would not come close. The gasoline that is available from the pump now days was not as good as was available back then and you had to run retail grade gas, what are you using in these cars, gas from the local airport that has higher octane.?

Never thought Id see a mid to low 8 second NHRA Stock and many cars running 1 or more seconds under the National Record!!! Running as quick as S/S was just a few years ago! Amazing.. or there has been major rule changes..? As interesting as modern Pro Stock to me! Thanks!

+recman1207 no major rule changes made within the past ten years.. its just the FS or factory stock cars (copo, cobra jet, drag pak) are leaving the assembly line that fast with a few small tweaks

recman 1207 You are sure right about your conclusion. Super Stock cars from the 1960s that were well set up and had good drivers and were stock 427s and 426s in the case of the dodges could turn 120 plus and in the low 11s. These so called stock cars are bored and cammed with different heads and pistons and special automatics and five speeds that were not available then.

I keep seeing Stock cars who should have 9 inch wide tires that you can tell are 10.5 wide
