- I’m really, really excited by this new official Richard Waters’ waterphone made by Brooks Hubbert. Brooks is an amazing musician and instrument builder who knew and worked with Richard. This new bass waterphone is so very resonant, responsive and expressive! It is a dream to play. For a longer audio demonstration go to:

There's something sinister and foreboding about that very unique waterphone sound. I love it.
So that's how they make the creepy sound effects in the horror movies! I always thought it was some kind of electronic synth rather than a physical instrument...

just unsettling
As a kid there was one local radio station that used to play sounds of waterphones & whales during their late night program, not so sure why my parents even let me listen to that at night, kinda strange & eerie bedtime music, but I grew to really love hearing the sound!
When you're walking around on an empty planet and you can't help but feel that something's wrong.

Waterphone
There's no way this video can feel like anything other than the opening to a really good movie.
Also, this is the greatest instrument ever. Why have I never seen it before now!?
It's two different experiences here in one recording. One watching it, admiring what he's doing to get these cool sounds.
And one with eyes closed laying in bed. Letting your mind paint the pictures for you. And let me say, the brain pictures are all scary!
You’re hot. Can I possess you beautiful body? 🤤♥️

I feel like this could be a part of some pretty amazing pranks... If you're feeling too lazy to come up with something unique and set it up, just hiding in a dark corner behind something while playing one of these glorious things softly and waiting for someone to walk in will do. Bonus points if you also have something that makes a REALLY LOUD NOISE that you can trigger right after they turn on the light.
Legitimately a fantastic haunted house tour or escape room idea
I saw a video were someone was playing the water phone by his son while he was doing a vr game 🤣. The dude was so scared
you be pranking people with dis until an ad pops up then what next xd
You lure them in with this instrument and then when they're close enough, you blow as hard as you can on an Aztec Death Whistle

@@shawnm2113 Agreed! I'm a big horror junkie, I think insidious is great! And I have a pretty strict grounds for what I think is a great or a bad horror.. luckily, in horror the differences are day and night from a good to a bad movie. and Insidious was in no way a bad horror.

WaterPhones are what people use in scary movies to make those creepy sounds also it sounds like cave noises.
dogelover 617 i doubt the cave noise is from this instrument.
Likely the echo is intensified by a especial room... Creating the heavy presence of cave noise... But again, not essentially from the waterphone

Sounds
Fantastic
Not only does it make creepy as f*&k noises if you brush it slightly, but if you fell down on top of the thing it would frickin impale you grievously. You'd go to the hospital and the first question out of the doctor's mouth would be: "Whoever did this to you...they uh.... didn't follow you here did they"?
Huh?
You’d have to try really hard for it to impale you since the handle in the middle gets in the way.
I always wondered how they make those unique sounds, thanks
So cool!
This... Is.... Awesome!
So this made Hannibal...
I would so play this while camping at night. Preferably in some wild forest, distant from civilization...
VERY cool. Sound designers eat your heart out
I see (or hear, rather,) the sheer _variety_ of sounds this thing can produce and all I can think of is a variation of the "slaps roof of car" meme like:
**Slaps bottom of waterphone** "This bad boy can fit SO MANY nightmare noises!"
Am I the only one who finds this extremely relaxing?
the haunting melody...it's truly beautiful if you can learn to love the experience of the sharp chords and contrasting notes...
Somehow I find this so relaxing.
What a great instrument! Perfect for horror / murder / mystery soundtracks!

My parents had some old 60's wall art sculpture that sounded a whole lot like this (minus the watery aspect). The rods were about the same size, too. If you ran your fingers along the metal rods and let the whole thing vibrate, it sounded fairly creepy, but kinda cool.
