    I believe Abuela was an antagonist because she was the reason her family felt pressure to be perfect. A lot of people forgive Abuela way too easily just because she experienced trauma. Just because someone went through hard times doesn’t give them the right to project it onto others. That’s how abuse continues in families if they aren’t mindful about working on themselves and healthy ways to cope with trauma. Poor Mirabel was the black sheep and the family’s emotional punching bag. No one should ever be treated like that. Abuela is the kind of antagonist that changes over the course of the story and becomes a better person. You can’t deny that she was pretty awful and abusive to Mirabel before she reconciled near the end.

It seemed like Isabel had a perfect life and even if you know that perfect princess doesn't actually have it all, its still hard to feel sympathy for them all the time, especial when they center stage, getting all the attention from everyone. family, friends, the one you love. a lil saltiness is bound to emerge from time to time.

    Actually, the reason Bruno went into hiding, was to prevent the family from knowing the prophecy, and therefore treating Mirabel differently. I do agree with how he hid the prophecy, but considering the bridge was broken, I'm assuming it was broken, because either he broke it, or magic broke it, because he was leaving, and therefore it would've taken a lot of effort to get to the vision cave in the first place. I mean, look at how much effort Mirabel had to put in just to climb all the stairs and get to the vision cave. A lot. This is me though.
    I do agree with the bedroom thing though. How come she couldn't have her own damn bedroom! Also yes, very good foreshadowing! I always tear up during that scene. He carved his own damn plate!

    6:14 - The house didn't had any other rooms left. Remember, is not casita that creates the rooms, it's the candle.
    7:28 - Mirabel is actually happy about Antonio, she gets sad when she remembers how Abuela used to treat her before her ceremony.
    10:42 - Bruno's door is not shining because he technically left the family. Also he states in the movie that after Mirabel's prophecy, he stopped using his powers, why would his door shine if he is not using it after all those years?
    12:18 - That's some sort of a latino understanding. Here it's common to hear the gossip if someone knows something. We all know someone who tells everything it hears, and if Dolores told the kid's gang about Mirabel not having a gift, and to Mirabel about the rats through the walls and Luisa's twitching eye, the movie already stated that she tells everything.
    13:07 - Julietta is Mirabel's mom (Her name is actually 'Julieta' (Who-ly-e-ta)). Pepa is the one whose emotions control the weather, not her.
    13:52 - No. He decides to hide because he already knew what was gonna happen; not only the town blaming him for everything, but he would also get blame for 'taking' away Mirabel's gift. And if he told Abuela about Mirabel destiny, Alma could have assume that she was gonna destroy her home, which would lead to a worse fate for Mirabel.
    14:23 - He actually can. He just doesn't want to be seen.

As someone who owns a typewriter, let me tell you that they are really heavy! It is a horrible idea to store a typewriter on the top shelf, because the shelf might break and destroy stuff beneath it, the typewriter could fall off and hit someone's head if they're near it, and trying to put that thing up there and get it back down again when you need it will be a pain in the ass. Of course, when the house is sentient then maybe it can help with that, but even then you'd think the house would keep the typewriter on a lower shelf anyway because it's trying to protect the family and it probably is a lot of effort to keep that shelf from breaking and causing problems.
    P.S. I am a young person, but when I was younger, my grandma gave me her old typewriter, since I hated writing with my hand, so I used the typewriter for on-paper assignments in school, and I just decided to keep it because it's really cool.

    This is a major hint that the gifts are not meant to help the Encanto but instead are an extension of the characters.

    Can we talk about the fact that Mirabel never gets her own door/bedroom!? Like I understand and like why they didn’t give her a magical gift at the end but she’s been sleeping in the nursery her entire life and they literally just rebuilt the house! I feel like it would’ve been even better and more meaningful if the family had built and decorated her own room specific to her and her interests and gifts, showing her that she doesn’t have to be magical to be a valued member of the family and deserving of her own room!

      I like that. It's pretty what happens and makes you think... I really think that as much as they are angry at Mirabel for poking the beehive (early in time, actually, as it wasn't intended that way), they needed to keep out of the confort zone to understand what was happening and fix it. So making things break was a way to fix them. A drastic and accidental one, but still. So your point of view is really topnotch

    When Mirabel sings the intro song she says ‘and every year our family blessings grow’. She doesn’t care about the magic, she just cares about her family.

    The only explanation I can think of for Dolores keeping Bruno living in the walls a secret but not keeping Mirabel finding the vision a secret is that she is in love with Mariano, and saw it as a way to ruin the proposal. I also still can't figure out why Antonio's animals had any reason to take the vision pieces and put them together.

    • @melodi2036
      @melodi2036 Před 2 lety +42

      That AND she hasn't kept Bruno's presence a secret. She talks about Bruno in present tense in the song, she mentions the rats talking in the walls (she doesn't speak to animals). And while these are hints - Bruno has been hiding for 10 years. She probably was very direct about it at the beginning and was dismissed as a cute kid with a hyperactive imagination.

      It's been drilled into her head since childhood that she shouldn't talk about Bruno. Even when she does hint at it to Mirabel, she's whispering so her parents don't hear.
      The vision shows that the casita and the miracle are in immediate danger. The idea of her family losing the gifts that they based their entire identities on is bound to be really stressful. Plus, it's possible she didn't think Mirabel could handle the situation and would rather let Abuela take care of it

    • @Carmine_Dowd
      @Carmine_Dowd Před 2 lety +5

      In that scene she doesn't seem to be making a tactical maneuver to ruin the proposal. She looks at Mirabel looking terrified, not at the bachelor’s mother or anything. It looks to me that she's just spilling the beans about the prophecy as a way of relieving stress about their impending doom.

    Also I’ve heard people say that Dolores means pain in Spanish, and if that’s the case Abuela’s whole thing about gifts just as special as you is a lot more sinister in Dolores’ case. I think everyone can agree that with official confirmation that she can’t turn off or have subjective hearing with her powers, super hearing is the worst gift by far.

      As Pyro mentioned, Dolores is the hidden villain. She knew Bruno was still living in the house’s walls, but kept it secret because she loathed him for his vision of her future. She was the one who started the bulk of the panic. And even on the door at the end when everyone’s image is on the door and powers are returned, her depiction appears distraught despite getting the man she wanted, and why? Because she is stuck with her power again, and can hear everything.
