- Welcome to a Affinity Designer Tutorial with me Mike! So today I took on a challenge to use a cheap design software called Affinity Designer. I plan on making a load of affinity designer tutorials whilst giving a Affinity Designer Review. This project was a little bit of a affinity designer vs illustrator as I previously made the same vector art tutorial graphic design in illustrator. Vector art is awesome, you can do so much with it and not have to worry about it looking bad when printed, because it's Vector art! Follow through on this affinity designer for beginners tutorial to learn what you can do with affinity design. I have to say as a graphic designer i'm impress with Affinity Designer. For the price of this cheap Design Software you can create custom T Shirt designs, Affinity Designer Text effects and I go though it all in this Affinity Designer Tutorial. Wow ... fantastic. Mesmerized while watching. Just trying to wrap my head around different tools. Been using Designer for a few years, but very basic stuff. Your videos are brilliant. Your mastery of it is breathtaking. Will watch again, with many many stops while I follow along step by step with my own text. what font is that? It's really nice
I do love the tutorial, subscribed, and did hit the notifications but, right at the beginning when the conversion from text to curves happens, if people are not getting this to work well, you need to select all the curves (letters) and then use the geometry Add Tool. The first time around when I followed along things did not work out the same if this step is skipped.

Hello! I am unable to keep my curves together. Instead, I have to individually select the curves and then expand the stroke. How do I ensure they are grouped together?
If i have a photo and i want to take out an object on it, how do i make that blank color to match rest of background? Thank you
awesome tutorial but I cannot get passed intersecting the shadow lines. I've tried starting from scratch 3 times but cannot get the intersect option available. first week playing around with the program though so maybe il figure it out. If anyone has any ideas what's goin on lmk!

Great video! I learned a lot! When I add the outline and expand the stroke then add the center of my D fills in. Did I miss something? How do I fix this? Thanks again for you help
Hey LM. I ran into the same problem in another video I think. You basically have to divide the letter ungroup it and use the inner section to punch out the inside of the 'd'. Hi from a fellow SA expat! Great tutorial! The end result is gorgeous!👌I’m trying to decide if I should get affinity designer for the typography aspect in some of my illustrations as Procreate is good for brush lettering but not so much typography. I already have affinity photo and I love it for converting colour space and touching up my work ready for printing, but I’m not experienced in graphic design programs in any way 😅

when i select the text button and add my text then go to convert to curves it makes each letter individual is that normal?
Solid tutorial, changed my mind about Designer as I've been leaning towards getting InDesign. About those multiple lines though, I know it's a necessary step but...is there an easier way? Maybe a free, legit, ready-made multiple line graphic (with the diminishing weights already done) download one can import as an editable layer? I have carpal tunnel RSI, and the manual input for line width stressed me, no lie lol Again, thank you for the episode, for a crash course it's just solid gold.
Subscribed! I hope you do a lot more of these. I dumped everything Adobe and bought the entire Affinity line, and there's obviously a lot less Affinity material on CZcams, but tons of Illustrator stuff which doesn't translate well trying to follow along in Designer.. It's funny you call this "basic" because it's really pro looking and not basic at all! There are so many clickbait titles out there, and this one totally undersold the video!

I’ve tried this on two different computers and it keeps crashing the app when I try to add the lines together or even skip that part and try to just divide! Your Mac must be made of steel because mine isn’t having it, LOL!! Is there another way to achieve this without crashing my computer?

Mike, I’m hoping you can help me. I’m having the same issue you addressed for Mama Sew Crafty below. My text has the letter O in it like in Lost. I’ve tried using the other video you mentioned but I can’t take out the center of the O so that it is back to transparent. Am I missing something from the video? I put the yellow like in the video to be able to see the center, the O curve in the layer has the hole out but the O text doesn’t and isn’t transparent but white. There has to be a way to punch out the white O center, I’ve exhausted everything I can think of to fix this, help; Please! Thanks.

@@KeeponCreatingTV Thanks so much, Mike. I don't know if it makes a difference but the word I'm using in my design is LOGIC and the font is Speedbeast.
My layers don't have those triangle icons and so I cannot select curves.

Hey NJ, not sure if you mean rotate it or just Type a letter hit enter and repeat - then centre the text so it all lines up?

Im brand new to design software and I notice when I use ctrl-J to duplicate my "Pen Lines" they are created one on top of the other, they do not move up as yours does?
Methodus... duplicate the first line..take the duplicate sitting on the top line and manually move it up to a separation you like... Affinity remembers the width of your separation and will reproduce that line and distance for you when hitting Ctrl + J... Affinity calls it Power Duplicating
Why do you only have one curve in the group at the beginning? I have each letter individually as a curve. Was there a step forgotten?
Hey Christian, if you select all your letter and click the 'add' function button it will become one curve or element. Let me know if that makes sense.

Has anyone have this problem; Clicked on Expand Stroke, it shut down the Affinity Designer program?
Hey Greg, I haven't run into this problem, if you try select a single line then expand does it do the same thing?
@@KeeponCreatingTV No it doesn't. I'm wondering if it's do to me using WIN 7? I noticed when you multiplied the lines, the lines automatically multiplied in a upward motion(I had to adjust my lines manually. Do you think that my issue is platform based?

I discovered Affinity D yesterday and this tutorial is TOO HARD for beginners, I keep rewinding and could not achieve the lesson. THE MOUSE POINTER is TOO SMALL
I agree about going a bit slower. Also, it would help if you would explain, as you go, WHY you are doing what you do. For example, at 9:18, why change the color? Are you just playing around or is that a necessary step? Sometimes, you drop your voice AND talk so fast I cannot understand what you are saying at all, much less understand why you take certain steps. I don't want to learn only how to replicate what you are doing, I would like to be able to learn the principles, as well, so I can use them with other designs.
I am a visual learner but please slow down. I had to keep pausing and backing up to be able to follow you.
