I wonder which Neolithic groups you were inspired by. From this playthrough, the paddy technology, the raised houses, the disc-shaped rattan hats, these are a very specific material culture found in only one group - the Austronesian people. P.S. Also the name - "Kainga" and cognates ("kainanga", "kaina", "kaainga", etc.) mean "lineage/clan group", "inhabited land", "village", "home", or "kin" in various Polynesian cultures (which are a branch of Austronesians) in the Pacific.
I wish more people appreciated the service this man is doing for us. Instead of blowing money on a bloated steam library, this guy is testing the good stuff for us so we can make more informed decisions.
It´s a double edged sword, sometimes Splat makes things sound more fun than they really are. I bought too many games I thought were fun to watch but were less fun to play.

I wish he'd make the episodes longer for the games he doesn't get very far in. I've had a similar experience as The Spark, when Splatty ended up not getting far enough to show off a mechanic that killed the game for me after I bought it. Spending 15 of 30 minutes in a character editor, or 5-7 minutes on tangents while not playing also doesn't help. He used to do a couple of episodes for games that needed them back when he did let's plays. I'd like it if he did a few episodes for more complex games, or do an edited episode of an extended playtime to show off gameplay elements.
@@Snowstrider0001 Yeah, I'd like to see a return to getting 2-3 videos per game to really get a good look beyond the tutorial. It's nice to see gameplay, but it's also usually the most polished part of the game, too, so if anything is bad/glitchy it's gonna be further in.
Kinda remind me of Populous: The Beginning overall, but specially the punches sound fx and those dancing moves the tiny people were doing on the campfire, and the fact that characters are 2D over 3D models, almost exactly like Populous.
OMG The praying and jumping animation is the same as the one they used in the old game Populous: The Beginning! I loved playing that game back then, so this might have to become my new replacement for it XD
Developer's brother here excitedly creeping the comments, we still play Populous when we get together! Great game, it was one of our favorites growing up. There's definitely a lot of inspiration from / callbacks to Populous in Kainga :)
This game looks like a really fun concept for sure. The art style is quite unique and charming, and I actually feel like giving a colony builder game a rogue-like mechanic is a great idea, since I often have trouble finding reasons to play them for extended periods of time, which that would definitely help with. lol I hope that this game does well and gets a full release! :)
I wish more colony/city builders and 4X games did the unique forking tech tree thing on a larger scale (not just in roque-likes). One thing that kills replayability in most colony builders is that the tech progression is usually linear. Treated as if each new tech is inherently superior to the previous. Which means your settlements always end up looking the same.
Interesting title, hopefully they have a demo out to let people thinker a bit with it. It'll probably be down the road after they secure funding though, thanks for showcasing the game.
That is amazing! An RTS Roguelite! The concept is cool, the upgrades and actions properly correspond with the visuals, the sound is not bad as well! Still need some work regarding work auto assign where the workers are assigned one by one rather than all at once and bugs here and there but overall pretty promising game!

In roguelikes if you die, you start from beginning. But in roguelites you unlock something to meet or even make character stronger for the next tries.
