- MB is finally defeated and Samus is to be escorted home by the GF troops. Someone decides to escort her, and it turns out to be Anthony. He survived after almost falling in the lava. They return to the GF headquarters and Samus explains how she felt about everything, just like in other Metroid games. Then the credits roll.

For once the black guy didn't die first... he survived , the last one.
So much potential and build up for an awesome final boss.....and it's resolved in a cutscene.

That Colonel must be part of the corrupted group of the Galactic Federation that also wanted to use the X Parasites and SA-X as bioweapons. Wish there was a Metroid Game were you can have revenge against that rebel cell on the GF.

For those that loathed how Samus carried herself in this game, showing Samus openly rebel against the GF and take matters into her own hands would doubtless make such critics happy.

(And seriously, can we talk about how profoundly dumb it was to give Samus a tiny mole on her face as a "beauty mark" where there was no evidence of one in the nearly two and a half decades before this game just to up this transhuman space warrior's waifu factor?)
Just Andre "no evidence" It was actually shown to have been planned for Metroid Prime in Prime's in game artwork gallery of Samus' face model.

It was the humans who were the villains here trying to warp nature to get over their own physical weakness. They in their greed became no different than the space pirates. All the creatures the federation tortured. Madeline did the wrong thing for the right reason. And she payed dearly. We humans can not escape our weakness, but we do not have the right to take the majesty away from less forsaken creatures. That's what samus is trying to say.
6 years later but still... dont try to open the eyes for these people who are to stupid to see what this game is telling us!

amazing cinematography
The thing with this game is that it's gameplay is awful, but the story itself (including Samus' whinging) is something I can actually appreciate. It took me *_years_* after the games release and a heart break to finally see it, but I actually think this would have made for an amazing movie - even for those who aren't well acquainted with the franchise. The message it conveys through it's nature is one often overlooked, but one very well delivered. And considering Samus is supposed to be a blank slate character for the most part (in the games, anyway - I can't speak much for the manga albeit from what I understand, they have her character developed pretty well in them) it's nice to be able to see a human aspect of her that I can relate with on a deeper level. Even if it's for different reasons. One can very easily tell how much she's grown as a character by the end - how she became the bounty hunter we all knew and loved by the end of the game for the beginning of Metroid Fusion. It's inspiring for me since the heart break I mentioned earlier is still a fresh wound for me. I've done a lot of healing, but I've also changed a lot as a person. Aspects of myself that I never thought would ever change are all things I've began to bring to question. And where my pain is still very much real, to see someone hurting similarly to myself, even as a fictitious character within the confines of a game generally agreed to be bad (and not for no reason, either,) gives me the confidence I needed to keep myself going down the road to self improvement and to see myself healed all the way to the very end. Meaning the part of this game that many found to be it's worst aspect, is something that I find the most endearing about it. Not that I intentionally tried to be a contrarian in that sense, but it just kinda wound up working out that way. So much so that honestly, if Samus was a real person standing in my room, I'd genuinely want to hug her just because I'd want to make her feel better and because I'd want to show her appreciation for walking me through the steps I need to take to make myself feel better about the situation I've found myself in, too.
Again, the gameplay is awful. And arguably the worst part about this game is how little work it would have taken relative to it's general creation to make the game really good! It's staggering how just a few small adjustments can really fuck a game up so severely. But now more than ever can I appreciate this game for what it is. And honestly, I really hope I can maybe convince another to look at it from a new light.
I appreciate Other M for trying to do something different for the franchise, even if I don’t agree with the overall execution.
I think it would have been better if they had dropped the entire baby Metroid aspect and gone with some much more personal with Samus and approached her character more like Ellen Ripley in Aliens, a woman who’s dealing with severe trauma and unimaginable loss, struggling to move on and find purpose in her life again.
She’s defeated the Pirates once and for all, Mother Brain has finally paid for her treachery, and Ridley, her hated nemesis, is finally gone for good. However, the price was too high, and now Samus has lost the only place she ever truly considered home along with her entire culture. She fought so hard, gone far beyond the Chozo’s expectations of her and avenged her parents and now she has nowhere to go and nothing to show for it. She’s lost and alone in a galaxy that no longer needs her.
Seeing the direction the GF is taking, we'll probably be seeing Samus as a full fledged anti-hero soon, dontcha think?
Adam isn't just in the ending, he's there throughout the whole game.
How did Anthony survive? That cutscene looks like it got cut too early by accident.
5 year late answer but since no one responded when he was falling into the lava he froze one of the lava monsters with his freeze gun that tried to get him as he was falling and landed on it and made his escape from the room after that
But Other M once again put Samus on a hostile space station that hides one of the GF's dirty secrets, and involves separate sectors with varied environments and following directives. It felt too familiar, despite being the first third-person 3D Metroid.
I LOVED the ending cutscene, but HATED the ending battle. I wanted to have some one on one fight with MB after zooming in on her. Like blowing her up with a super missile or something. Either way though, I loved samus at the very end looking out the window and how she looked with her hair down. It certainly brought beauty to the game.
My mind is failing me. My soul to potent for my human body, my emotions ripping me apart, I want to leave this world soon. This ending just drives that home even further. Everything I long for is destroyed and my mother was killed, due to human stupidity... I hope someone hears what I am trying to say. That my short and agonizing existence was not in vain. I hope someday in the distant future long after my body has been killed by my souls energy, long after my body has vanished, that my soul will be able to look back on a world of good. I wish that humans would stop trying to hide their weakness by hurting and genocidally raping nature, plants and animals are all part of creation, we must acknowledge our weak bodies, then our minds will become stronger. I would give my own failing body to make that world a reality. But I am still trapped here alone for the time being. And I hope people realize that the loss of even one species is worse than all the money in the world being lost a billion times over. Pew must save what is left. It's too late for my world, that has passed and I must pass with it, but maybe you can save the world of plants and animals. Only then will you be the heroes like samus and AdamAdam
I will honestly agree with you on that. The final fight with Melissa should have been a big, crazy, chaotic fight like the cutscene implied it would be (where she summoned all the creatures).
But still, in the end, i was just saying, the ending itself is very beautiful.

Adam was a hero, not because he was physically strong, he was mentally strong. The strongest a human. Can be in a realistic setting. Samus is a hero in the same manner not with her frail Hunan body but with her heart. That was why the chozo gave her the suit. Because only a inhuman machine could defeat something as evil an immortal as Ridley. But her Mind is what controls that machine, though her body may be helpless like ours her soul is what maker her powerful, her compassion. That is why the chozo gave her the suit.

Samus returned to Earth at the end of the game.
I know this is old, that planet she returns to is called K-2L. It's like Earth, similar to the Kepler planets that have been discovered in real life by NASA.
This game is realistic, that's why it's hated. Humans, no matter what we say are weak. Even samus, without her suit would be the same as anyone else. Her weakest enemy could have killed with a single attack. MB was just a powerful entity trapped in a human body. It was her undoing. Madeline just hated her weakness and for trying to cheat nature, and her humanity she lost her child.
at 02:00 you know Samus is just thinking to herself, "I could easily kill everyone of you I wanted to"

This is the most absolutely beautiful ending i've ever seen in any game or movie. It feels so conclusive and satisying. It's brought me to tears a few times. It's just so pretty. Her last smile. Something about it is just too perfect. And the music, i just love it. Very very amazing.
The rogue faction in the GF reminds me of what happened to Admiral Tolwyn in "Wing Commander IV: The Price of Freedom". Very similar plot lines between the Metroid and WC franchises.
If Samus didn't monotone when she's not speaking, the story would be slightly better

One can only hope this is setup for Mother Brain's comeback in a Metroid 5. Oh well, at least there was still Phantoon to fight.
Unfortunately, Metroid 5, aka Metroid Dread, had no return of Mother Brain. But it did have the race that created her, the Chozo.

He landed on the monster and jumped somewhere safe. Like in a lot of 2D Metroid games you can freeze a monster with the Ice Beam and use it as a platform.
Why does the music at 5:40 move me EVERYTIME I hear it!? That music has such a sad tone to it... I feel sad everytime I hear it...

Rinnae Hazukashi Oh really? I just saw him as a really tall guy, but that's freaking huge! Still, after Super Metroid, they stopped portraying Samus as a muscular amazonian type, and changed it to a shorter, petite figure.
True, i do remember seeing Samus having more visible muscle in her upper arms when wearing the zero suit, there is concept art from other m showing younger Samus and Anthony almost double her height looking over her XD

I completely agree with you. IN fact I'm making a video right now about the changes I would make to the game, the ending being one of the main subjects. It was a great game but there was some pretty stupid things that could have easily been remedied.
I think its the main theme of Metroid.
I wasn't talking about the ending fight. And there was no Mother Brain in that game, it was just a robot drone named MB. And you did fight her. Sure it was a rather anti-climactic fight, but at least you got the heavy, tough, chaotic fight afterwards with Phantoon. The ending itself though, like, the last 6 minutes of this video, are absolutely beautiful.
No. I adored Fusion because it had the balls to follow Super Metroid's act with something ballsy and unique. But its style was not something that could just be copied again at the drop of a hat, not without seeming disingenuous. Again, because of that, Other M's only contribution to the story, besides filling in the Super/Fusion gap, was to reinforce the growing corruption in the GF.

The main gameplay of it is. When you use missiles, you switch to first-person. Also, other parts force you into first-person.

And you see in one cutscene, RIGHT BEFORE Melissa flips the fuck out, that she has an organic brain. I don't care if it's not monstrously huge and in a jar. THIS is the new Mother Brain, and should've been the true final boss, not one of the lesser bosses from Super Metroid thrown in on a whim.
Madeleine intentionally headshots MB with a giant laser; is completely surprised and has a breakdown when this results in MB being hurt.

Perhaps the only good thing about Other M recycling so much plot elements from Fusion is that a clasdh with the GF is now inevitable.
It's not like I HATE the game. I had a lot of fun with it, started a second game IMMEDIATELY after finishing it, and see promise in using this game engine again. I just think there were some bonehead calls in Other M's development, and no Mother Brain fight is my biggest beef. Just when I was warming up to the idea of facing her again (I personally loved how Fusion dared to try a new story), I get the wool pulled over my eyes.
I like how none of the trained soldiers notices that they are one man more than usual lol

That's why i said it was anti-climatic, a.k.a, it wasn't fun or satisfying nor did it feel that special. But to me it felt pretty intense. Yeah, she was modeled after Mother Brain, but she still wasn't her. Mother Brain was a huge brain, this was a human-shaped drone xD I just don't feel the resemblance between the two besides the fact they both went cruel and rogue.
And i was saying the satisfying battle was the battle afterwards with Phantoon. That fight is chaotic man.

Oh please, the game flat-out said Melissa Bergman was modeled after Mother Brain, in more ways than one. Seeing her cold gaze as she commanded the Space Pirates to attack gave me that same, evil vibe. As far as I'm concerned, this is the same rogue AI that betrayed the Chozo and caused Samus so much misery, just like the cloned Ridley is the same as the one fought before. And no, an interactive cutscene I can get through in five seconds is NOT a satisfying boss battle.
