#nba #rookie - Sport
ESPN would put zion on this list
You bet they would
My favorite Zion is overrated moment is before the season had started, 2k included Zion in the all time Pelicans team. So they had Zion as one of the best pelicans to ever play for the team... literally before he even played a minute for them.
Blame the NBA, as soon as they see one ounce of star power they market that player heavily.
They ride him
And Lebron
Ik Wes Unselds numbers weren't great but he still won MVP as a rookie
And Wilt also win the MVP as a rookie
LonelyWasteland101 won*
@@intenzzegunner5168 sorry, im from spain and the corrector is not god
@Tong Zou u trippin🤣
@Tong Zou nah u still trippin. I think unseld would be an honorable mention
Um he didn’t mention how Wilt Chamberlain was the MVP
So did Wes unseld and he did mention him
Tim Duncan made to the all-nba 1st team and he didn't mention either...
calamorta yes he did
Favoritism
@Dayshon Jennings still he was a rookie MVP
I’m honestly surprised Andy didn’t put Chris Smoove on this list, he be averaging 60 point triple dubs on HOF difficulty while winning All Star, league AND Finals MVP’s...AND best record, all in his rookie season😂😂
beezzus_ godofawkwardness this guy underestimates mr splash man
Maleki Perez McClemons Thats Mr Splash Man, he make it splash man!😂👏
Chris Smoove Is Smooth With The Basketball
I did that too. Hall of fame on 2k is easy
Give that guy a map! Where are you going?!😄
I thought Michael Carter-Williams could make the list haha 🤣🤣🤣
10 most deceiving rookie seasons should be next
nitringo
Maybe best first game as a rookie
@@firstnamelastname-up6ni You know Brandon Jennings would make that list
@@firstnamelastname-up6ni Tyreke Evans would be numer 1!
What about Wes unseld
Facts won MVP in his ROTY 😂
Well it was the 70's, and how can he match against this list
MascedGhuost Well he put players from the 60’s so your argument is invalid.
Didn't unseld only average like 10 points and 15 rebounds?
18 rebounds and 13.8 points his rookie year.
Wilt should've been first. He also was the MVP in his rookie season.
Rice but stats don’t mean everything, I would go with Magic 1, Wilt 2, and Wes 3
So was Wes Unseld but he was not on the list
Yea he would do the same thing in modern era a 7 foot 3 highest vert faster then a track star and he’s built like a demigod to be honest he would easily do thst
Dayshon Jennings nope
@Dayshon Jennings you are just a hater. Even Shaq said that Wilt was the most dominant. Arnold Schwarzenegger said that Wilt was the strongest man he ever met and MJ said that people shouldn't call him the GOAT because it would be disrespectful to players he never played against like Wilt and Jerry West. Wilt would dominate today with todays training and coaching staff
If wilt retired immediately after his first season he would still have the single season records for scoring and rebounding.
Wilt would be 1'st on PPG with a caveat, Elgin Baylor had one season that was a hair higher on PPG but only played 48 games that year (I'm not sure why it isn't counted in the record books, it SHOULD be #4 on the all time list).
@@bricefleckenstein9666 what season was that and how much did he average?
@@diannamonk2753 1959-1960, 37.6 PPG (Wilt's rookie season).
Only Elgin Baylor ever averaged higher than that, 1961-1962 season (the same season Wilt averaged 50.4) - but Elgin only played 48 games that season so it's not counted in the OFFICIAL rankings (IIRC 50 games was the minimum that year to be counted).
Yeah it had nothing to do with the league being full of plumbers and electricians 😂😂
@@Bonescratcher Playing a 5 vs 5 in the park today is probably harder than playing on that league back then
Magic got 42 points, 15 rebounds and 7 assists in game 6 in 1980 finals
Fr This fool said 15 assists smh🤣🤣🤣🤣
While playing C for the injured kareem
And his rivalry with Larry Bird, which started in their College basketball seasons (see 1979 NCAA Final) let the NBA into the Modern Era and well-known all over the world
@@carsyncruz he played every position in that game
Um h didn't mention that Duncan made 1st Team All-NBA
And 2nd All-Defensive,
And top 5 in MVP voting,
In the modern era...
@@genermanaloto6509 Larry Bird was either 2'nd or WINNER of the MVP for his first 6 years - including 3 in a row (a feat only 3 players have managed, and Larry the only non-Center).
In 80 he was 4th. Still magnificent tho
Bruh where's Wes Unseld, this guy won MVP as a rookie
But when you look at the numbers he definitely shouldn’t have but he is a mvp and nobody can take that from him
Rip
Dre Westbrook still better than some people on this list
Willis Reed or Jerry West deserved MVP tho. It is honestly the worst MVP and should why players shouldn't vote
SSJ2 Ultibolt , Dont take this the wrong way but how old are you

Great video bro
Magic Johnson and Larry bird are definitely up there. A 6 foot 9 PG who averaged 18.0 PPG and 7.3 APG all while leading the lakers to another championship. Plus a rookie bird averaged a double double with 21.3 PPG and 10.4 RPG. One of the greatest rookie battles in NBA History. And we can’t forget about wilt the stilt. Averaged an absurd 37.6 PPG along with over 27 RPG. Just insane.
magic did not deserve the finals mvp
Yeah he did.
Kareem should have won it. He only missed one game Game 6. He dominated the other games.
I thought they never recorded rebounds for wilts first 2 seasons, so I’m not sure if 27 rpg is correct
Shaq's arrival on the NBA scene was truly EPIC at the time!
Great list, great video!
Wassup Andy thanks for the nice content.
3:13. The Big O....crossover looked like crossovers in today's NBA
I disagree with Magic at #1 because even after his great game 6 in 1980 the voters chose Kareem as the FMVP over Magic but because Kareem was not present the voters were asked to change their votes so Magic could win the award, This is covered in the book "Kareem" pages 140-141. Also forgotten in game 6 was that Magic only jumped center at the start of the game. Jim Chones guarded Dawkins and held Dawkins to 14 points. Also Wilkes for LA poured in his career high 37 points. Kareem was the best player in the world ( he won the 1980 season MVP) and was why LA won the other 3 games in the 1980 Finals. Magic actually set an NBA Finals record for turnovers in the 6 game series for having 30 turnovers. One game should not carry that much weight, and LA before Magic was already a playoff team the year before with 47 wins. Wilt , Kareem, Duncan, Oscar and Bird had better rookie seasons than Magic. In fact Magic as a rookie needed special coaching on defense as the zone he played at MSU did not prepare him for the pro game. Other point guards were scoring 35 and 40 points against Magic every night and Norm Nixon was given that assignment. For details see Magic's book "My Life" pages 100-101, You seriously need to re-do this list. It is ok if Magic is your favorite player but other players were flat out better. Bird won ROY over Magic with 63 first place votes to 3 first place votes for Magic!!!
Andy been putting in work during the entire shutdown.💪
I liked & subscribed. Good video!
Wes Unseld??? He won MVP in his rookie year 😂
he snubbed from this list, because votted robbed Jerry West from get his on;y MVP and give that to him. he get MVP primarly not because he has the best performance but because he has the most inovative style of passing back then and because he is rookie (great Story). please watch mike korzemba (nba stars who got robbed from winning MVP)
Ray Allen’s Jumper didn’t deserve it
So did wilt
i think unseld no.3 wilt no.2 magic no.1
glad im not the only one who noticed Wes Unseld’s snub lol
Nice list, Andy.

Why didn't he put Wes unseld, my man's won mvp as a rookie
He averaged like 13 ppg
Can you do one day a video for the Best oldest players ever?keep it up, love your videos Andy
Awsome video.
Magic didn’t lead his team to the championship. Kareem was still the #1 option by far and carried them all the way to game 5 of the finals where he got injured and magic stole finals mvp in game 6.
He didn’t lead him but Kareem couldn’t win without magic that year.
Thats the NBAs plan to push their Rivalry
Bird Winning ROTY
While Magic won the FMVP
Kareem average 33p and 14r and the only reason he did not go to Phililiphia was they were up 3 to 2 and decided to rest him for 4 days and havehim fresh for game 7.
Damon Beasley what does that have to do with anything. Before magic came, the lakers were a second round exit or barely made the playoffs, then magic comes and the lakers suddenly get to the finals.
Eli Adler wdym. Literally look at the stats for the season. Kareem carried. Magic was a role player as a rookie.
Make a “nba players that has made more all stars games than we thought”for example : joe Johnson 6 appearances

You gotta love that magic and Larry bird story , enemies from the start ,that should be a movie🍿
Video idea: *How good was Mitch Richmond?*
Most underrated NBA channel
That is a great list.
Number 9 should come with an asterisk, as Robinson was out for almost the whole year before that season.
That’s a luxury Shaq didn’t have.
Hm. This thing about the Spurs being a amazing team before Duncan got there is crazy. You do know that they didn’t even win a championship with Robinson. It’s not like they were a super team. Don’t get me wrong the Spurs were a good team but they weren’t anything special
You realize Duncan was arguably the number 1 option. You do realize that Duncan had only 2 other people scoring in double-digit. Robinson 21 and Avery Johnson with 10. How is that a luxury.
Shaq had 3 players his rookie season averaging double-digit. Nick Anderson 19, Dennis Scott 16, and Scott Skiles with 15.
Layered Onion The Spurs scored only 92,5 points per game where the Magic scored 105,5 a game.
If you took away those point from those guys you mentioned it wouldn’t be so far fetched like you point it out to be.
Robinson was just a bonafide star in this, where Scott, Anderson and Skiles are not.
theedge205 yes. Robinson was good. But he was no longer a superstar. But indeed he was a 20 ppg scorer and 10 rebs a game. That’s a very good player.
But riddle me this. In the 2000 post season Tim Duncan was out for the playoffs because of an injury. But it’s all good right? They still have 2 hall of famers in David Robinson and coach Popovich. In the first round the Spurs were up against a Suns team only having 1 hall of famer in Jason Kidd. But to make it really easy Kidd only played 1 game in that playoff series because he to was dealing with injuries. But to make it even easier the Suns were so thin at the guard position they had to bring a old Kevin Johnson out of retirement. But... the Spurs still lost to the Suns in 3-1. Tell me how that could happen? If Duncan had so much help and was in such a good situation how could this happen?
Layered Onion Game 1 was a fluke win for the Suns, game 2 was easy Spurs victory, game 3 Spurs disappeared in the 4th quarter as Todd Day outscored the whole Spurs team by himself and game 4 was just slow and Rogers and Penny both scored in the 20’s where only Robinson did it for the Spurs.
Looking at the rosters I don’t see legit center on the Suns and I’m not counting Longley as legit.
Looking better I see that the Suns were actually playing small ball against an aging Robinson who still could do his damage down low.
theedge205 they still lost 3-1. There’s no excuses for that lost it was 😂😂 it was wild. They lost to Rodney Rodgers, Luc Longley and an old retired Kevin Johnson. They bust them up. There best player was a decent Penny Hardaway who was coming of injuries from previous years. All that “legendary” talent couldn’t handle RODNEY RODGERS 😂😂
Luka Doncic has a great rookie season too 😃
Impressive list
Great list Andy. I agreed with your top 4, David Robinson is arguable a top 5 in my opinion because Larry, MJ and the Big O have a better case to me. But, overall is great list.
1. Che
124.6 PPG
96.8 RPG
15.1 APG
18.2 BPG
ROTY, MVP, SMOTY, DPOY, FMVP, NBA Champion
Che is an unstoppable beast
Espn: You forgot Zion!
*And Lebron at number one*
Totally agree with list!
Great list! I was going to have a problem with it if Magic wasn't at the top. Jordan could have been a bit higher, but overall superb job !!!
Walt Bellamy averaged 31.6 PPG 19.0 RPG as a rookie. After Wilt Chamberlain this was probably the best season statistically for a rookie. However his team the 1961-62 Chicago Packers had a 18-62 record.
SHAQ was a absolute beast in his rookie year 😤😤😤😤😤😤
I remember, Shaq was a freaking monster.
pittland44 totally he was , all those dunks breaking those rims ? Just 😤😤😤😤😤
Wilt would have destroyed him.
I think another feather in Magic's cap for greatest rookie season ever is the enthusiasm that he brought to the game. The NBA went from being on tape delay for the finals, to having the greatest team sport rivalry in short order when Magic and Bird entered the league
Great run down
Luka?
Notiii gang🎯🔥
When Larry Bird is introduced at 5:00 he's being guarded by the Milwaukee Bucks' Marques Johnson. Johnson won an NCAA championship at UCLA, and Michael Jordan had a Marques Johnson poster up in his room when he was a teen.
I don't think team wins should play a factor in this. Rookies usually get thrown into rebuilding teams so of course they lose a bunch. That leaves out players like damian lillard.

Manu and ...... uh, can't think of anyone else offhand though I'm pretty sure there are 2 or 3 others I'm forgetting.
"Best undrafted" would also be short - Dwight looks to be the only one that MIGHT make it into the Hall (he's at least been on the draft once and got significant votes).
@@bricefleckenstein9666 at now, Manu and the Joker are the best
@@pedroaugustocosta2533 Ah, but Manu was picked 59'th - that counts for a lot more.
Great list, Andy!
David Robinson is totally underrated. If we were to hypothetically switch his career with Duncan's, we would be talking about him in the conversation for top 3-5 center of all-time (behind Kareem, Russell, Wilt, and Hakeem) rather than top 7-10 because Robinson probably would have won around 5 titles (rather than 2) having Parker, Ginobili, and Kawhi as teammates (along with Duncan) for his entire career.
David robinson better stats, tim duncan more win success and larger career
@@Coldskin1, Duncan's success is far more based upon fortunate circumstances than your implying that Robinson is a stat-chaser (i.e. Harden, LBJ) because the Duncan was blessed with superior coaching and team management that drafted good players as well as playing in an era with little depth of centers and teams willing to draft international talents (i.e. Ginobili and Parker) compared to the 90's.
Bruh I’m not even watching this now, ima wait till I’m bored asf to watch this banger
Where is wes unseld he won mvp on his rookie season lol
2:55 How Andy know that Big O average 2.6 Bpg in the 60’s although block weren’t recorded back in the day. 🤷🏾♂️
*X-Files Theme*
I think it was a mistake he made, he probably copy and pasted Duncan's stat line and forgot to remove the blocks
I think you're right

On the way to check out that freeze out game against Michael jordan.
Can’t argue wit the list🤷🏾♂️
Wes unseld should have at least gotten an honourable mention!
2:15 The one Spurs player is hiding behind his opponent..
LMAO THAT'S HILARIOUS
David Robinson was a rookie and instant starter for the Dream Team and R.O.Y. 1st Team All-NBA. That alone just outstanding
Should've mentioned Wes Unseld (rip) his numbers might not have been eye popping but he drastically improved his team and won MVP becoming only the second player in history to have won an MVP in their rookie season after Wilt that is which is also something you Should've stated while talking about his season and his stats

I disagree with magic being number 1, while he had his moments, he was still playing with kareem, who is arguably the GOAT
Playboy Ky Tbh Larry got disrespected on this list, magic would’ve gave gotten anything if kareem wasn’t injured just proved the gap between bird and magic
in their rookie year
@Jose Larios III Kareem averaged about 34 PPG in the finals that year and was also the league MVP. He had an amazing game but I don't understand how he could be #1. Kareem and Wilt both put up great numbers but Wilt had an even higher pace era and weaker comp so it is kinda hard to determine who should be #1. Remember Kareem turned his team from the worst team to a near 60 win team. He should've gotten MVP over Willis Reed because he only was behind by 4 wins. People saying Jerry West should've been MVP ignore that Wilt and Elgin were on the team and that he had a really bad record. So, IMO it's between Kareem and Wilt. Magic can come 3rd tho. He was still legendary.
Jose Larios III the thing is that Kareem was injured Larry was way more proving of having a higher spot on this list than Magic
The Lakers were struggling in the years before with Kareem in the team. 79 lost in the second round, 78 lost in the first round, 77 lost in the conference final, 76 and 75 didn't make the playoffs, even though Kareem won MVP in 76 and 77. Afaik everyone agrees that Magic was the one who turned them into contenders and champions.
Nice list. Winning a championship MVP is the highest honor in the league. Magic is underrated by many, especially the younger generation. He is arguably top 3 all-time. I see people mentioning Wes Unseld as an inclusion in the top 10. Wilt is hard to rank because many people never saw him play, but the numbers speak for themselves.

@@boxingdegenerate9077 Arguably, because David Robinson still put up similar numbers that year, and had been winning about that much without Duncan before getting hurt. Great rookie year, but not in as much of a standout way as the others on this list.
ja8ames yeah I can see it. There’s a lot of great rookie seasons out there. But Duncan did get some mvp votes. He also made an all-defensive team. Only a few rookies can say that
Duncan NBA career: never missed the playoffs, 5 championship, won a championship 3 decades in a row, played against many great players, won many awards. Tim Duncan can definitely be put on the 🐐 List.
Yobadd Yobadd agreed. Not to mention he carried a team past the Kobe and Shaq Lakers. He carried no all-star level players to a championship in 2003. He should’ve put up quadruple double. He was a consistent 20ppg scorer and 12 rebs. He was arguably even better defensively making 15-all defensive teams even as a rookie, that’s the most in nba history. He has no chokes besides 1 shot in 2013 and he redeemed that in 2014 winning a championship. Keep in mind he was the best player on the team and he was in his late thirties. He has a good mid-range game with a bank in shot from the corners, he was the best player on his team 16/19 times in his career. He was great as soon as he stepped onto the court. Absolutely phenomenal player I have him number 5 all-time
Tim Duncan also started in Allstars game something these rookies ain't nearly rdy for nowadays
Wilt averaged 37.6 PPG, 27 RPG.
Led the nba in PPG, RPG, MPG that season.
Highest PPG and RPG for rookie season.
He out rebounded the than greatest rebounder Bill Russell.
The man was double and tripled team more in that first season than anybody else ever but he still led PPG, RPG and MPG.
Its very hard to lead in PPG and its even harder to lead in PPG and RPG in the same season.
Already Knew Lebron Wasn't Gonna be here.
Jordan, Wilt, Kareem, Bird, Magic I mean. So Many Players Way Better.
Lebron was eighteen years old as a rookie. All those guys were at least twenty one when they started. If Lebron came to the league at twenty one then he'd probably be on this list somewhere. If they made a list of eighteen year old rookies Lebron would almost certainly be number one.
@@SonnyK248 LeBron and Moses are about the only players that had any impact as 18 year old rookies - which is a VERY SHORT list in the first place, perhaps a dozen players all-time that came into the NBA at all that young?
@@bricefleckenstein9666 There have been a few 18 years olds to jump straight to the NBA. Kobe and T Mac did it but it was never expected for players that young to start and make a huge impact right away. 18 year olds were always seen as project players. That's why even guys like Kobe who were talked about as the next Michael Jordan in high school still fell way down in the draft. Dwight Howard and KG made a big impact right out of High School similarly to Lebron but all three of those guys had physiques that rivaled and even surpassed some NBA stars so it was much easier for them. Lebron takes the award for best 18 year old though for sure. Malone was drafted to the ABA which was seen as a little bit of a downgrade of the NBA at the time so his impact has a little bit of an asterisk next to it. He wasn't up against the kind of competition Lebron was in the 2000's by a long way.
I think wilt should’ve been first great vid tho
legend wes unseld first ever roy and mvp...still holds on its record until now..
Can you do a how good was Gary Payton video?
Anyone heard of Walt Bellamy? He was a guy who had an outstanding rookie season numbers wise but no one talks about him
"Bells" had a great rookie season and would be even greater today with his outstanding all around game including a knock down outside shot. In his rookie season he averaged 31 ppg and 19 rpg. 🔥
He gets downgraded by most folks because the era he played in was probably the dregs of the NBA for popularity - so most folks have never heard OF him.
