      I actually felt like it was convincing but her nervousness gave it away. When he asked where she was from, she pursed her lips which is a pacifying action and then she said here which is an answer you’d think of when you’re on the spot. If it wasn’t for that I would have guessed she might have been first generation and bilingual which can mess you up with pronunciation sometimes

      @@user-uh3qj2tb4z its very subtle, if i were to point to a time where i knew Elise was not American, it was the 1st question he gave her "where is your hometown". disregarding the actual answer (although i've spent a fair bit of time in LA myself) the way she answered felt off, specifically when she said "the people here are really weird". im in no way a professional, but the way she said "weird" felt off IMO.
      i actually couldn't hear the accent in Nadia's so....

      well she said she's from LA and she had a very Southern accent to the word, she said more "ac-a-nt' (her 'e' sounded more like an 'a') here we usually say 'ac-ceent' if she had said she was from the South it would've made sense but since she said she was from LA it was really obvious, it's hard to hear, but if you listen over you can hear the difference, it's a bit difficult to explain.....

    Being an American, it's hard sometimes to remember that we have an accent. That's why I find it funny when British people or other people can simply tell I'm American by my accent.

      I think it depends upon where you're from. Being from the Midwest, I can be guilty of not thinking about an accent because it's not as obviously strong as the rest, and is probably closest to the traditional broadcast accent? However, people from regions with stronger accents (like certain Southern states or New England regions) usually have a better understanding of their accent, and can dial them up or down a bit if they want to. I've never heard a Texan or Bostonian think there's no such thing as an accent from their region.

      I was just thinking the same thing. The differences are much more subtle, and there are probably regions of the US that sound more stereotypically "Canadian" than some Canadian regions (eg. parts of Minnesota and North Dakota come to mind).
      The real way to tell is to get the subjects to say, "I love American beer". If their eyes are twitching or they start sweating profusely, they're Canadian.

      Could tell from her saying her name tbh - The "l" sound was a lot looser, because in an American accent the tongue is pressed tighter to the roof of the mouth, vs in an Australian accent there's more space. More "ul" than "el" with an Australian accent. Plus, the vowels are very open.
