    Nice variant Davie, I love the original because it's so buggy and simple to tye. It's always working as it fishes. Yours follows suit by using just two feather types to tye the fly. You're a clever tyer Davie, and put your special touch to a fly. Thanks Davie, ATB!

    Been watching your videos, and I am so impressed by your skill and creativity. You could probably tie a functional fly out of a candy wrapper. I've shown some of your flies to my wife, who also thinks that they are beautiful, but many are too difficult for me to tie. There are several that are more or less my speed, so I'm pretty sure I can fill my fly boxes with some winners. It is a total mystery to me how you manage to put so many material on a fly but are still able to tie a perfectly clean head. Unbelievable. Thanks

    Excellent work Davie. I really like the use of CDC over the Brahma hen. I use the Brahma when I tie them up...will be giving CDC a go on it now. You made that pattern look really good. Cheers from the US...Alex Bender

    very nicely tied, I will be tying a few of these with the cdc as I like the movement and life it adds to a fly. thanks again davie.

    Another lovely fly, Davie. I really enjoy watching your videos, very informative - and relaxing, especially with your boy's music. All the best to you both.

    Davie. Love the cdc dubbing. Will have to try it. Also, I'm unable to leave comments on your facebook page, so I would like to suggest a simple bucktail streamer with two or more colors to see how you tie it in and keep the head from getting too big. Thanks.

    Davie - I have learned so much from your videos - what is the wax you use that you keep stuck on your hand?

  • @shire-lee

    Davie, I've been watching you for years and love you videos. Just out of curiosity (i'm sure you don't nowdays) but in the beginning of your video career tying flies, did you ever mess up during the middle of a fly and have to start re-recording your video? I know i had to for a few times. Personal question i know but curiosity is getting the best i suppose. Thanks mate, TIGHT THREADS!!

      Hi Brandon Nevarez,
      Most times I can get by with no issues but If I do make a mistake like the hackle breaking or or a tail or wing being too long I will try and show what I do to fix this as it' best in my view...There's many other reasons that will make me start again like when the ice cream van comes by with it's music playing, someone comes to the door and the phone ringing these would be top of the list when it comes to filming then there's the odd technical fault which can crop up..I'm glad you enjoy the videos and thanks for watching for all this time...
      All the very best Davie

      HA. If the ice cream man comes i'd have to stop filming just to get the kids something to eat. It's neat to hear those little personal things, thanks for letting me in on a bit of those details. Curiosity just got the best of me i suppose. Your wife must be a real "catch" if she doesn't mind you tying so much, then again don't you do this full time? Thanks again Davie!! I'm sure i will be in touch for further questioning (tying related only of course). Cheers mate.

    Also Davie, are you familiar with Al and Gretchen Beaty? La Fontaine's Legacy? It's a fly tying book published over here in the states.

      Hi Brandon Nevarez,
      I do know of Al and Gretchen and Gary La Fontaine but I didn't know about the book, it certainly looks very interesting...

      Oh, ok. The book is a very good read. My uncle just gave me the draft for the book, the camera that took all the fly pictures, and the set of flies that were printed for the book. It's very cool, that's why i ask.

      Hi George,
      I have attached a link to the wax I use, it comes from Veniards they are a wholesale company so any shop that stocks their materials will be able to help you...

    Is this a dry fly, or do you mainly use it as a nymph?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 4 lety

      Hi Jan,
      It's used as a nymph pattern, this was a pattern I was asked to tye though I have fished it on my local water and it fished really well in the fast water..

      @DavieMcPhail  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Richard,
      Here's a small list of the most popular wet flies for both trout and grayling...March Brown, Greenwells Glory, Partridge & Orange, Partridge Yellow, Snipe & Purple and Waterhen Bloa..There's many others but tying these on size 12s and 14s should get you started..I hope this is of some help to you..

    Just a question: the advantage of CDC, compared to other materials, is its buoyancy, right? So why use it on a fly that isn't supposed to float, which is the reason that you weigh it with copper wire? Cheers, Harald Carlén

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Harald Carlen,
      CDC is better known for it's floating properties but it's also a very mobile fibre so using it on weighted and emerging pupa/nymphs has been very popular with anglers all over the world...Adding weight to the fly will hold it in and around the first 12 inches but you can also control it with a heavier nymph to get it at the right depth in slow or fast water..

    another nice fly Davie, is this a fly for river or loch?

    • @DavieMcPhail
      @DavieMcPhail  Před 7 lety +1

      Hi Aldo21t,
      This fly can be fished in both rivers and lochs, it's certainly worth tying a few and I'm glad you liked it...
