For those who are curious : this potato hack is for one time use only, the second / third time you splash water on that glass the water droplets will not slide . As this hack is not permanent but if you use wax instead of it , It will work and will stay intact for a long period of time
It definitely works. What isnt as abundantly clear is ... "for how long". Its back to normal in a day or two once the starches and what not oxidizes and wears off. Its functionally useless after an incredibly short amount of time.

It didn't last long, at the end he hoses the section he just starched which he has already tested as its wet again - when he re wets it the water adheres to the glass (no water beads) 😂
Это хорошо, но даже средства не справляются с машинным маслом от других машин на дороге. чем не покрывай- есть одно средство-им и пользуйся и покрывай, вытирай, и так же часто посещай мойку
Fun fact: before windshield wipers were invented, people used to smear a mixture of carrots and potatoes on their windshields to try and repel rain water :) it kinda worked because of the oils in the vegetables, but often smeared the windshield and made it much worse
This works because under a microscope glass is not smooth it’s filled with little microscopic holes and rough texture, it traps water in that’s why it streaks. Rubbing a potato or anything similar will fill those holes causing the water to not get trapped. I sell a product for that and basically that’s how it works
Potatoes have a natural oil In them that acts like wax and wax up to a certain amount of time and hardened can be water proof so basically just giving your window a fresh coat of wax
So you just make your hydrophobic not work and you’ll always have a wet windshield. The hydrophobic coating is on your windshield so the wind can blow away the lil’l drops off the glass. You won’t need your windshield in a bit of rain.
That is cheaper than the crystal fusion application I paid for for my windshield. The crystal fusion application was $250. It does work and it also helps nighttime glare. This idea seems cool too though!
Yes the potato does work but you can’t clean it with windex right after you rub it on. Just a clean rag to wipe off the excess. No it doesn’t last more than a few days but it does work.
the left side of the window actually had so much more water on it, that it was fully covered, which looked better, but is *akshually* less water repellent
