Sir! you just saved me some work. =) I need this information because my factory tach is on the fritz, and when it started, it coincided with the truck dying a few seconds after each start up. It would start and run fine, then begin running as if starved for fuel. a simple bump of the throttle, however, would then smooth the roughness out and the truck run fine, then die again! JEEES! Thank you so much for this video.
put the "light" wire to ur front right or left headlight in the fuse panel on the driver side of dash..then it will work with your light switch and the rest of the guages
+Trevor Torrens , can the wire be found closer towards the drivers side? Can I use any tachometer if I install it right? Do I need a fuse for it in the fusebox?
thšs perssonnn I'm sure if you traced it you could find it closer to the drivers side. I just went right off the connector because it was easy to find the pin location. and as for the tach I wired mine in to turn on when the radio is on so it uses that fuse. I just got mine at oriellys. just make sure it's for gas engines.
+Trevor Torrens , I found mine by the fusebox under the hood. Now, how do I wire the rest of it? I'm thinking about wiring it directly into the fuse under the dash. Do you know how that works? I'm going to use the blower motor fuse and light switch fuse. Both only turns on with ignition. Can I plug the wire into the fuse then put the fuse in, or should I cut and connect to one wire that connects to the fusebox for the two fuses?
I wouldn't use the blower motor because the power going though that is not consistent. I'd use the radio power. It's easy to get into. You can do a 3 way splice or get a fuse jumper plug that gives you an extra wire off the fuse to get power from. They are sold at parts stores. And I used the fuses under the dash to get all my power for my setup. The only wire going to the engine bay was the one for the signal.
Where do you go through the firewall? I heard you can avoid that by connecting to that same wire behind the instrument cluster... www.therangerstation.com/tech_library/Tachwiring.shtml
Nathan Reeves if I remember right I just put it through with some other wires under the dash. my truck was a stripper model so it had very little electrical stuff and there were a few preexisting holes to put it through.

Thanks Trevor, I bought a 95 Ranger 5 speed a week ago; and not knowing what RPM I'm shifting at is driving me insane.
No problem! glad I could help.
very helpful. thank you!
Just get a different cluster with the tach that's what I'm doing its actually quite easy

thanks for that tip chief
Sorry for my bad English but I need helping... The tachometer signal is in the pin 48? The wire is stripe yellow tan? And that is for ranger 95?

The 2.3l ranger with 8 plugs did you set the tachometer switch on the back to 4 cyl or 8 cyl
Jay Zee 4 cyl
Did you use a 4 cylinder or 8 cylinder tachometer
Jakson Palmore it's a universal 4,6,8cyl tach in the 4cyl mode.
Where did you get the mount for the tach?
It came with it
Where did you get it
Jakson Palmore oriellys. Last I checked it was about 25 buck.
