- I’m installing an aftermarket tachometer on my 2000 ford ranger 3.0 v6 with the 5 speed manual, not really sure why they didn’t put a tach on for a manual but whatever. I’m no professional but this worked for me and I did a lot of research to get this to work so do your own research before attempting. I am not responsible for any damage lol.
Green wire- tan w/ yellow stripe (via wire tap)
Black wire- ground (preferably to engine compartment but make sure the ground is really good)
Red wire- piggy back fuse tap to fuse #19 (25 amp fuse) for pcm power diode, ignition, and PATS
White wire- light blue w/ red stripe behind headlight switch/ dimmer switch (via wire tap)
You will need:
Tachometer
Wire loom
Crimp connectors
Wire taps
Electrical tape
Multimeter
7.5A fuse
Shrink tubing
Wrenches and sockets
Fuse diagram
Ring terminal
16 gauge wire
Wire strippers/ crimpers
Needle nose pliers
Zip ties
I think that’s it

Great job thanks for the help!
This helped me sm thanks!
Is it the same color wire throught Ford vehicles or only in the ranger?
Should be pretty universal, just look up tachometer wire color for whatever truck and it should show up, you might need to look on some forums but you can find it pretty quickly

Man can we get in contact for more help
You can just swap in a cluster with a tachometer instead of doing so much work, plus it’s just plug & play from years ‘95-‘03.
How much is a cluster and where can I get one?
