Insulating and Carpeting the Camper Shell on my Ranger

- After 2 or 3 days of work, I finally got the insulation and carpet done for the Ranger! It took more spray adhesive than I was expected, and I went through a lot of knife blades, but it's done!
I'm really happy with the results, and am excited to get started on the sleeping platform and storage. - Auta a dopravní prostředky
WOW !! great job especially by yourself ,looks great
Thanks! It was a lot of fun and I've enjoyed the trips I've taken with it.
Awesome job buddy
That turned out awesome!
Nice and impressive job putting the carpet/headliner up by yourself
Thanks Gary. It's not perfect, there's a couple spots where it sags a bit (gonna do a follow-up video on this). But for now it works great!
The carpet looks seamless, pretty dope stuff
It was pretty tough getting everything to line up, but I'm really happy with it.
Watching you scoot around on that metal bed made my ass hurt 😂 Nice build !
That came out great! Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I was a bit worried that it would be a mess since it was my first time doing this kind of project, but it was definitely worth diving into!
Looks great!
Thanks!
that's excellent ! It will givbe me more confidence on doing so too. thanks man,
Good luck Phil! It honestly wasn't too bad, it just took a while. Make sure to use carpet with a thinner backing so it bends easily, makes a huge difference!
GREAT VIDEO! You did a great job. Most toppers (like mine) only have just the carpet. I also installed a BedRug brand bed liner. It is a very special rug that contours to the groves on the truck floor and keeps it perfectly smooth and flat. I have not done the Reflectx mod yet.
That sounds really nice! If I wasn't so constrained on budget for this build I definitely would have gone with something like that.
Very nice
Thanks!
great job !
Thank you! I'm happy with the results!
Very nice job
About to deck out my ford ranger thanks for this vid helps me alot to kit the back of mine out! awesome work!
I was going to do this but thinking of taking the top off and flip it upside down to do it, I’m not as young as you moving around like that
Wouldnt it ofbeen easier to take the shell off and lay it upside down to do the work? Man you nailed it, good job!
Yes, for sure it would have! I'll be completely honest, I don't know why I didn't. I guess I was thinking that it was somehow easier with the topper on?
Thanks! I'm pretty happy with it, even if my method could use some work!
@@nowakoutside We learn as we go,as an old guy my advise is to master as many tools as you can and the talent will follow.
Probably would have been a lot easier to take the shell off and do it
Haha, I agree. I honestly didn't even think about that until after I finished (of course)....
Lls won’t tryna come for you was actually wondering if you just knew something I didn’t tryna do one my self
@@RD-tx2cj Nah, all good! It's a good idea and I'd definitely recommend it. You could probably make the carpet all one piece instead of "patchworking" it like I did.
Probably just an extra step
It looks great! I've got a 99 ranger and thinking about doing the same exact thing.
Thanks! They're a fun platform to build stuff like this since they're so simple. It's also nice to use a smaller truck so you don't have to spend on gas during a road trip. Good luck with yours!
Looks great, I just did this on what looks like a nearly identical (century?) topper. Took me 3 days well, initially planned for 1
Yeah it took a lot longer than I expected, but was definitely worth it!
Great video so glad I see it you got a sub from us brother keep it up .
Thank you!
@@nowakoutside your welcome
@@nowakoutside love your vids keep it up
Have you tried using anything Velcro to that particular carpet? If so do they hold strong? You did such a great job on yours. I have my topper off truck in shop and about to start this project. I’m glad I didn’t start using the almost black in color speaker carpet I have. I had been looking for this color gray to match rest of truck. Looks like my Menards has this carpet and about to figure out how much to get from there and the cuts if they can do that too But yeah. Was wondering before I buy about the Velcro bonding with it.? Thank you sir
NGL I'm mad at how good it turned out with the crappy execution you could of just took it off 😂
No kidding haha. There are WAY better ways to do this, and I definitely took one of the worst options.
Next time. Or whomever wants to do what he does, is to take the shell off and flip it upside down.
Yes! For sure, make sure to do this. I definitely made things harder on myself by not just removing the shell 😂
what kind of carpet is this/ where did you get it?
It was an auto/marine carpet from Menards. It was like 79 cents/sqft I believe and worked really well!
Can you tell me where you bought your carpeting, a fabric store or a place like Home Depot? Good video, thanks.
If you had to do it all over again, what would you do differently?
@Tyler how has it held up to low temperatures? Keeps you warm? Below 20's ever?
What carpets do you use ?
I used automarine carpet form Menards. Specifically "Foss Automarine Gray". It was cheap and durable.
I did this and mine keeps falling down did yours stay on, or did you have to find something stronger to hold it up there?
Hey, where did you get the big sheets of felt?
I get wanting privacy with the windows but don't you need them to drive
Why hasn’t anyone used spray foam ?
Why didn't you just pull the topper off and turn it upside down. Seems like it would have been a bit easier. Overall good job.
That is definitely the right way to do it. For some reason it didn't occur to me to take it off haha. For sure it would be so much easier.
Question: would a spray foam have filled in those small gaps, in lieu of or in addition to the tape? Especially if you cover it with carpeting after. Planning mine…
Hmmm. I suppose it could. Honestly it would probably give better insulation than mine too, since the gaps would be filled instead of just covered with a thin layer of tape.
I'd be curious to see/hear how it comes out if you do it with foam!
@@nowakoutside Next summer 🤞 More of a bug-out build, have trailer for camping…😀
@@roberts1922 awesome! I look forward to seeing it!
What state are you in?
Northern IN, but I travel wherever for camping.
Hey. What’s rhetorical name of the fiber glass panels u used and what thickness. Thank u
It's 1/2" reflective faced EPS foam board, from a box store.
Curios what your intentions on your build, boondocking?
I'll mostly use it for camping trips with friends, and probably do some parking lot camping on road trips.
What carpet did you use?
It's just a simple automarine carpet from Menards. Costs like 65 cents per square foot and is made to hold up well outdoors.
has it fallen off yet?
